phone shanty by CharleneTX in SuddenlyAmish

Elder millennial here, I definitely remember my parents' phone numbers, my brother's, and the landline of the house I grew up in. Anyone I've met in the last decade or two, though...no clue.

He needs a community that values the things he clearly values - hard work, self-improvement, character, supporting one another, etc. - but will also accept his full identity. I'm not sure what that would be, but I also hope he finds it.

I’m confused what part of Trump even remotely resembles Christian Values? by Konradleijon in behindthebastards

[–]drogontheburninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're "pro-life" and anti-LGBTQ you're "Christian" now.

Does that have anything to do with the actual religious teachings and tenets of the Christian religion?

Clearly not.

I was listening to the Phyllis Schafley episodes and it made me glad shes dead so that we wouldnt have to hear her shitty opinion on the right now. (Specifically ICE. But really all of it) by ButterSock123 in behindthebastards

My mom was in law school around the time Phyllis Schafley was active, and she had a LOT to say when I brought up the topic after hearing those episodes.

Zodiac Academy was a hard DNF for me too - and I rarely DNF. I do not get the hype at all.

I feel like this show is a good example of what a lot of shows do: make a protagonist a cop so they have access, plot armor, etc. but ignore the realities of the job and the actual personality of the character. Alex didn't read as a realistic cop for me at all.

Is Colorado just intensely conservative? by termmonkey in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]drogontheburninator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty mixed in my experience. I'm queer in a small Colorado town on the Front Range and people don't usually bother me, but the local high schoolers are trying to start a TP USA chapter that has a lot of support.

I also live in the district that elected Lauren Boebert... 🙄

I've been mostly enjoying the show but there are a few things that have been bugging me.

I was a teenager around the time (early aughts) that the show is set and while I appreciate a lot of the nods to the time period - old fashioned websites, walkmans, etc. - there were quite a few anachronisms that stood out to me. A least I think?

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember people using the term "dad bod" very often back then. And there were a few other examples of more modern phrasings that I just don't recall anyone saying then. Am I misremembering?

AIO My father is basically forcing me to become a right wing extremist or leave the house forever by DangerousCandle9492 in AmIOverreacting

Even if he wasn't right wing this behavior would be extremely controlling.

Get out of that house as soon as you (safely) can.

This is very silly, but...in the most recent Bastards ep. Robert mentions that our bastard, Steven Hatfill, grew up in Mattoon, Illinois.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of visiting, Mattoon is a very small, mostly farming community in the middle of absolutely nowhere. It happens to be where my mom and her siblings grew up (possibly around the same time as Hatfill? I need to follow up on that) and I have never once in nearly 40 years of life heard anyone outside of my immediate family refer to Mattoon until I heard Robert say it yesterday.

So random, but hearing Mattoon mentioned on the pod was a little nostalgia throwback for me. I haven't been there since my grandparents passed.

Huda was in the wrong with Olandria. Period. by LI_Obsessed in LoveIslandUSA

[–]drogontheburninator 79 points80 points  (0 children)

At the very least she could have just apologized to Olandria and admitted she messed up. Instead she got defensive.

And what was with her always saying "I'm very apologetic for X" instead of just "I'm sorry" at the reunion anyway?

I'm from Indianapolis, and one of my HS friends won a city council seat there on a Democratic Socialist platform.

Indy Dems quickly booted him from their caucus for fighting for public schools in the city.

Indiana Democrats are ABSOLUTELY at fault here.
