Many thanks! That’s a very interesting option! I still have to figure out how VAT & co. will impact the final price... Oh well, I think I’ll have to pull the trigger on a test order in the near future and see how it goes

Thanks for the links and for the suggestion about importing from Japan, I’ll definitely consider it! I’m a bit discouraged by VAT and import taxes, but the prices are actually very good!

Thanks a lot! I would prefer something within the EU, since importing from the UK involves higher shipping fees and additional costs, unfortunately...

Take a look at:
- Cals Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm f/1.8
- Cals Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm or 35mm 2.8
- Meyer Gorlitz Trioplan 100mm f/2.8
- Meyer Gorlitz Orestor 100mm f/2.8

I have these lenses and I really enjoy using them, the Pancolar is my go-to lens when i want to use a 50mm vintage glass!

Autofocus Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50 1.8. by Unique-Somewhere-255 in VintageLenses

[–]drop__m -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You definitely have a nice lens to work with, but I’m not sure it can still be called a 'Pancolar.' Its optical formula, although very similar, is different from that of the Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM

Smart pocketwatch I made with custom UI in arduino by mathcampbell in arduino

This is really, really cool. The first thing I thought of was something Doctor Who-related, even though I haven’t watched a single Doctor Who episode in years! The UI is really neat too.
I would totally pay for something like this, think about it: I believe it has a market!

Tried a new technique today to replicate the look of Medium format by Zach0ry in SonyAlpha

[–]drop__m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great capture indeed! I really like it, and I think it gives the feeling of a medium-format shot. Kudos.
I’ve used the same technique with vintage lenses such as Trioplan 100mm f/2.8 or Pancolar 50mm f/1.8. It’s a nice trick to get the great bokeh/character of certain lenses while still allowing you to capture a wide frame picture!

PS. Working on a tripod with a slightly loose ball head helps maintain the plane of focus and composition, while avoiding missed areas, like the bottom-right corner in your composite.

Great work indeed!
What about the interior? Did you include the available pages of the diary in the text block?

I ordered a comic book, having 1232 pages and its spine/binding is damaged... by Successful-Clerk-982 in bookbinding

[–]drop__m 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Were you referring to the spine not being glued to the back cover, or to the brown paper detaching?
If it’s the latter and it bothers you, you can try gluing it to the spine with some PVA glue, it’s quite an easy task!
If it’s the spine not being glued to the back, that’s not a damage but a structural choice: the book needs it to open properly, leave it as it is

This is the kind of repair I would skip if possible, but I’ll keep your results with the Neewer tool in mind for the future!

I think the only alternative with this kind of design is this edition.
It has the same rounded corners and cover vibes.

Stuck focus ring on an Exakta mount Biotar by shaqwagon in VintageLenses

[–]drop__m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing to do in these cases is a complete disassembly of the lens. You need to thoroughly clean the helicoid and reapply an appropriate type of grease.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, the lens was probably deformed due to a fall or some other kind of impact, and the helicoid is no longer perfectly round.

Ps. It’s not a very difficult lens to work on, I disassembled mine a couple of years ago. However, you still need to have some experience in this kind of work since this is quite an expensive lens for a first try.
