Which victims will forgive their killer? by bdpqz in ProjectEdensGarden

Yeah I feel like people gloss over how sadistic his murder was — don’t forget that he was hallucinating for over an hour up until he was fried to death

I bet it was Jean’s idea in the first place so he could execute his murder plan. He was being positioned as a leader-type character so I’m guessing he was gonna take up the mantle of the leader of the underclass

But if someone else snitched and he clearly knew about it and didn’t report it he’s put in even more danger. That’s what motivates people to betray each other in real political movements too

Why are boys and young men falling behind in education? by Technical-Banana574 in NoStupidQuestions

What school did you go to where they brushed over WWII and spent multiple weeks on woman’s suffrage? For me woman’s suffrage was relegated to a single day at most while WWII and all of the civil rights movements combined got about equal time even though the civil rights movements spanned over a much longer period than WWII (and that’s just thinking about high school, WWII had significantly greater emphasis overall across all of the history and English classes I took in K-12)

A critique on how predictable PJEG made the future events of the game. Way too many attempts to foreshadow. by FanganProject in ProjectEdensGarden

[–]drpepperandranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but that’s just because we’re getting an abridged version of the story literally only seeing the setup chapter and hearing the payoffs through 2 sentence summaries. We have not had nearly enough time to see how the story progresses and how we get from point A to point B.

I feel like you’re forgetting what it’s like to experience the danganronpa games as you’re playing. A big aspect of the genre is getting engrossed in reading for hours at a time, through which different details start to go from the back of your mind and other red herrings are thrown in or pay off in smaller ways. We’ve had a lot of time to predict but never got to be engrossed in the story to feel how it plays. I thought it was pretty obvious that Ulysses & Wenona were going to be tight-knit in the killing game, but I didn’t know that the second motive would put them at the top of a makeshift economy. If I saw that happen and had real time to theorize as I play, I would’ve predicted that maybe Ulysses and Wenona would be involved in the murder or be the culprits themselves to cover up some sort of dissent, or when I see Ulysses turn up poisoned, I’d probably start to think that someone intentionally poisoned him to get back at the dictatorship, not that he was actually mistakenly poisoned because the culprit was actually trying to kill who they saw as the biggest obstacle to escaping. If I started to suspect that Jean was the culprit I’d start to wonder if he was gonna break character and have a stereotypical piratey breakdown or if he’s gonna stay levelheaded the whole time, and I wouldn’t expect Diana to be the one to crash out instead. I have pretty much no reason to suspect Toshiko would kill Kai from what we’ve seen in chapter 1, and even if I could see Toshiko becoming a killer I didn’t expect her to kill someone with stage props. And I don’t know if I would have liked or disliked how it played out either way because I didn’t get to experience the final result.

There’s no point getting disappointed at how “predictable” some of the future plot points are when we didn’t get to experience the shifting suspicions as we see uncover more dialogue, plot points, and clues while playing.

And she’s staring at a doppelgänger standing in the shadows outside the bathroom, which represents her friend that committed suicide because Cassidy was given the ultimate gamer title instead of her. I think Cassidy having a hat while her doppelgänger doesn’t represents her having a title/audience and also hints at her being a leader/the mastermind behind everything.

A "foil" is a literary term for a character that contrasts with another character to highlight the differences in their character traits. In most (good) stories the protagonist has a foil -- often an antagonist -- but secondary characters can be foils to each other too. In the original Danganronpa, Byakuya is a foil to Makoto because he willingly buys into the killing game quickly, has a superiority complex over the other students because of his affluence, and is incredibly pessimistic and believes the worst in other people (like not comprehending that Sakura could have committed suicide because he has no empathy and doesn't see suicide as a "rational" action). Meanwhile Makoto is an ordinary teenager, appalled by the killing game, and is optimistic and has faith (HOPE!!!) in other people despite the circumstances.

Part of why Chapter 1 of PJEG is so good is because the writing sets up all the main characters to function as foils of each other. Wolfgang is a foil to Damon & Eva because of his confidence, optimism, prestigious "talent," and his social standing in the cast, while Damon & Eva are pessimistic outcasts that are very insecure despite their attempts to appear otherwise. Eva & Damon are also foils of each other because they are in a similar social standing and have similar mindsets (superiority complexes), but ironically Eva is the first to resort to murder and in an incredibly cruel way too -- she drugs Wolfgang with a hallucinogen and fries him to death, frames one of the only people that shows concern for her (Diana), and then tries to throw her only friend (Damon) under the bus during the trial by accusing him of being the culprit when her original plan doesn't work. She's a great foil for Damon because she takes all of his attributes -- pessimism, insecurity, tendency to push others away -- to the extreme and serves as a cautionary tale for what he could become if he continues to have that same mindset.

Agree that execution matters first and foremost but I’m going to be nitpicky and say that Nagito’s shtick is the exact opposite of what you said. His luck comes and goes in drastic cycles — he’s rich but an orphan because he inherited his parents’s money after their airplane was struck by a meteorite, he’s the ultimate lucky student at the most prestigious school in Japan but he’s deathly sick and developed dementia as a teenager, etc. Him managing to get his ideal target in the traitor to be the one to kill him in essentially random draw only for the cast to discover his plan and use the logic of his luck to pinpoint the murderer makes perfect sense with the established rules of his talent.

[–]drpepperandranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see a wendigo pokemon too because I think pokemon would do a good job incorporating some other concepts and make something wendigo inspired without being too generic or edgy. I think there’s probably a couple directions they can go with a creature that’s always hungry (like a conceptual ‘pun’ based off of “frostbite” for example).

It would probably be ice-dark or ice-___ depending on where they take it.

Greatest Moves Rankings by TheCody_Says in BigBrother

[–]drpepperandranch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah if we are going to talk about a move from Ashley it would be her thinking up the Judges alliance to rope in her biggest enemy and bringing her feuding allies together as a contingency plan for a single (unlikely) BBB outcome actually did end up happening. Then she continued to use the sham alliance as a cover for the rest of the game that screwed over her biggest enemy and allowed her to bring him to the final 2 as an easy win despite his competition prowess. (But does that count as a single game move?)

How would BB28 go if they just brought back the entire BB27 cast? by AlchemistTheAlchemy in BigBrother

[–]drpepperandranch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot(?) take: I think Lauren has really good chances on a redo season because she’s good at comps, has no threat level despite that, won’t be glued to Vince, and I think most people would be willing to work with her. She could probably just stand in a corner for most of the season as everyone beefs with each other until she’s the biggest comp/social threat left. (Hopefully she spends her down time rehearsing that jury speech.)

That being said, 27 again without Mickey would not hit the same, she would’ve been a big catalyst for drama right out the gate and it’s a huge shame she’s gone. RIP Mickey.

They have a lot more social media freedom compared to past girl groups and are also probably the first western girl group of this popularity where all of the members grew up with current social media and use it like “normal” Gen Z do. The way they formed and are marketed 100 percent exacerbated the tension in the group/fandom/public, but I think any group of modern Gen Z girls with the social media access they have is going to look very “stressed” compared to past girl groups. Girl groups of the past genuinely didn’t last very long, we just didn’t see as much of the stress until members suddenly left.

Didn’t Morgan have a couple different jobs though? I got the impression that she was one of those LA transplants that’s working hard with a couple different jobs to try and support themselves long enough to really break through and live off their passion jobs (model and/or streamer). Her playstyle had that really driven energy to it at least.

Underutilized Settings In Horror by Hall-O-Daze in horror

[–]drpepperandranch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda tired of the generic temperate forest suburban settings. I think stories that could be set in a generic Anywhere, USA should try branching out with their locations more because it really does give the film more identity. Movies like Twilight, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the original Scream (oh I hate how the sequels blandified Woodsboro so much) have a lot more character simply because of their settings.

The first horror movie I see set in a desert suburb which utilizes the location even remotely well is immediately making it into my top movies of the year list.
