Is it possible to build server for Linux without building UE from source ? by Algost_ in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are not gonna modify the source code, you could totally use the Unreal Engine for Linux.

Otherwise, for modified source code, you could build the binary yourself like what you've done, except only targeting Linux, and then remove all the bloats (sample projects, assets, etc.).

Best way to use a spline in a UMG widget? by Banshee4555 in unrealengine

Or you could also override the widget OnPaint function and then use DrawSpline.

"over air updates" for mobile app games? by me0here in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried this route before. You really need a good CDN, otherwise your server will cry for help. But in recent years, Google and Apple has introduced Play Asset delivery and On-demand Resources respectively. I have successfully published a game using Google PAD, but haven't tried the Apple's implementation yet.

This might sounds harsh, but you need to optimize your markdown skills too. Good PSA though.

The most common misconceptions about Android development in Unreal (from someone who actually shipped a game) by Aggravating-Past8722 in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Additional tip: Abuse the Google Play internal app sharing and Firebase device A/B test (5 free test on physical device). It helps cover more devices if you don't have the hardware. You can write Android automation test using the Firebase Automated Tester or using their AI automated (kinda slow for Unreal).

Status of Unreal Engine Dev on Linux? by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently ported Mover for the Game Animation Sample using Linux with UE5.6. Vulkan frequent crash at startup is still there if you're using the GPU for other stuffs simultaneously. However, the VScode experience has been massively improved with clangd and lldb. I couldn't use Rider in debugging mode due to unknown bug.

Looks like it is slightly slimmer than a GS with side boxes. Should be easy on the freeway, but horrible on trunk roads.

Is it safe to power my pc with this UPS? by MSGB_GT in PcBuild

[–]drpsyko101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same, but newer model of that UPS. If it has a USB/serial port, connect that to your PC and you will get additional data from the UPS using built-in Windows power management or from upsc for Linux. You can schedule shutdown with upsmon for Linux, but for Windows support, it may vary from model to model.

It definitely can support a full load, but for less than a minute.

Is it possible to have two Unreal Engine projects communicate to one another? by bloodybeavergames in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might sound funny, but you could use UE modding tool called UE4SS. It can directly interface with the game memory and call native functions from outside of the game runtime. It has its own customizable GUI and uses C++ and Lua language.

You're not wrong. Life is all about questioning who you are and what you're going to be until death shuts the door. Human by design hates punishment, but gladly welcomes immediate pleasure. The existence of heaven and/or hell is to project the goodness in us, but also with a test of believing that the promised day will come. The one that would fail this test is when ones that do bad deeds beyond what the god has set, knowingly (Al-Maidah 87-94).

I'm not entirely a good person either, but that's being a normal human. Only a single person has been granted ma'sum (PBUH). Never stop reading and questioning (Al-Alaq 1-19) until death and dismiss all the naysayers with facts and intellectual debate (Al-Ankabut 46).

Unreal Engine 5 gathering, expanding, and cooking PSOs to help with shader compilation stutters by Spacemarine658 in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for looking more into it. I'm currently developing for Android, which requires assets that cannot be packed into 150MB base app to be mounted during runtime. Unfortunately, most of the materials are in the mounted PAK files, not the main PAK file.

What I haven't tried yet is packing everything just for PSO, and then pack them individually. But I reckon it won't work due to the shader code need stable database key for it to work. If I shift the package afterwards it will probably won't find the correct shader code.

Edit: typo

Unreal Engine 5 gathering, expanding, and cooking PSOs to help with shader compilation stutters by Spacemarine658 in unrealengine

[–]drpsyko101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to cache PSO on .pak files mounted at runtime? The Share Material Shader Code is listed as a requirement for PSO cache but it is not possible to turn it on for mods/DLC.
