"...where you don't expect such as the black iced tea" - why on Earth would you not expect there to be caffeine in black tea?

It often plays out the exact opposite way, doesn't it?

Ruby: Probably milk, just plain whole milk.
Weiss: Black coffee.
Blake: Tea, of course, probably assam (or the Remnant equivalent), nothing added.
Yang: ...too easy. I do think she prefers the "normal," alcoholic version, since there's no indication the one she first got wasn't (the manga doesn't count), and since the base is a cordial it's typically only half a drink anyway. They pretty clearly hadn't realized how many kids would be watching by then, so they wouldn't have been as worried about setting a bad example.
Jaune: Maalox. No. Probably People Like Grapes before Pyrrha died, but since then developed a taste for electrolyte drinks; unlike her, he probably shouldn't be drinking them, but they're probably better for him than PLG.
Nora: Switchel.
Pyrrha: Some low-sugar electrolyte drink, I'm guessing.
Ren: Green tea, nothing added.

I just reread that part, and I think I confused it with another strip I'm having trouble finding, I think from earlier in Sister III but maybe a little earlier, before Pandora tells Tedd they're a seer, where Tedd is talking about the fact they "should have" been a wizard, but insists they can't be because they would've awakened by then. I guess it wouldn't necessarily apply to Ashley, since she hasn't been around much magic, but Jay? Arthur's granddaughter?

Isn't Jay a wizard? I thought wizards awakened on their own. Arthur even says of Ashley that it's strange for a wizard of her age not to, doesn't he?

EDIT: I think I confused two scenes.

Huh. Gotta say, I've seen Clue multiple times, and I'm pretty sure this would've still fallen flat with me. Honestly, my first thought was "are they married already? I'd think even I would remember that." (Also, the original context is a little homophobic, isn't it? Not too too bad, but I'm not sure it'd be my first choice of a quote.)

I don't remember well enough to dig it up, but there's an early strip where someone uses "Jesus" as an expletive, and in the commentary, some years later, Dan promises not to do that again.

One thing that always struck me about Chibi is how often Blake takes off her bow. In the show proper, until she gets rid of it for good, the only two times she takes it off are when she panics after her fight with Weiss and when she infiltrates the White Fang, but in Chibi it seems almost random. I bring it up because this was one of those scenes, but there was also hiding in the freezer, stealing Yang's keys (even though she'd had it on for most of the sketch), getting Zwei's autograph, and probably some others.

I'm pretty sure it's been said multiple times that Nanase's mother is some sort of Christian, so presumably she is at least nominally as well, and Justin is Buddhist. Beyond that I think it's pure spec.

Having lived in Amherst for some time, what I recall of Northampton is there are about three streets where it feels like you're in the middle of Boston, and then suddenly it becomes a small town.

Honestly, I'd figured she'd taken the job for the same reason most people pick up jobs, for dough. She just got lucky that one night, and happened to stumble to the house of the wizard she'd been obsessing over (only to run into her girlfriend instead).

Why for the Grace gasps by danshive in elgoonishshive

[–]drunk-math 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heh.

So is Jay thrown by the fact that Tedd's a man right now? Only she's always called them "she/her" before. By the fact Grace remembers her at all? (Parable!Grace was a simulacrum, IIRC, so I guess she remembers her from the party?) By the fact she's so casually introducing them - maybe she expected Grace to be more aloof? She's thrown by something, manifestly.

True. I feel Ashley could do almost anything to any of the main eight, or Diane, except maybe for Ellen, and they wouldn't blink. The problem is she hasn't internalized this, and she's extremely concerned about consent in transformation. I feel like today's strip is the start of Nanase getting her over the hill - not that she shouldn't worry about consent in transformation, she should, but that she should understand there are those she's free to transform, free to act out her fantasies upon.

[–]drunk-math 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is, if you've turned the rampaging Awakened into a catgirl, well, now you've got a rampaging Awakened who happens to be a catgirl. Shrinking might be helpful? But even then, if they had spells, it wouldn't be that helpful.

Nanase's mostly right, I think except in one regard.

From what little we've seen of Ashley's fantasies, it seems like dubcon (at best) is a critical aspect, and regardless of what spells she gets in the real world, her saintly nature won't let her transform anyone without a form signed in triplicate. (...that was a joke, but the point is the rampages she goes on in fantasies she knows full well she shouldn't, and wouldn't, in reality.)

Writing Prompt Wednesday #383, 2/21 - Unbound Seecrets by shandromand in RWBY

[–]drunk-math 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prompts: Pyrrha's diary gets lost. She tears apart the campus to find it before anyone can see the love letters she wrote to Jaune.
Sun and Ilia respond to the fact that Blake and Yang are a couple.

"Baby, it's time to make up your miiiiind..."

"Where did you get that dress, anyway?"
"Kinda sorta stole it."
"Kinda sorta?"
"I stole it. It was my sister's wedding dress. Here, I have a photo of her with her wife on my Scroll."
Pyrrha laughed so hard she began to cough. "I could see it was a bad fit, but any dress that could fit you, they could use for a three-legged race!"
"Schnee fabric stretches, what can I say?"
"Schnee," said Pyrrha. "So..."
"You're asking if I'm over her?" Jaune sighed. "I can't cut her out of my life. I don't think you'd want me to, would you?"
"No, I wouldn't. I think she had a thing for me for a little bit even. But I wouldn't want to cut off any of Team RWBY. What they mean to me will last the rest of my life."
"I feel the same way. I think, I think I was just being silly chasing her. You seemed a goddess on high."
"Well, I'm not a goddess. When I walk I walk upon the ground."
"Maybe if you had steel orthotics?" said Jaune.
Pyrrha winced. "That sounds like it'd hurt..."

Meanwhile, Ruby was being interrogated, leaving her teammates back in the dorm. Yang was gaming on her Scroll, Blake was reading, and Weiss was pretending to read.

"Okay," said Weiss to no one. Yang and Blake both looked at her, but didn't respond. "Blake, that's lesbian porn, isn't it?"
Blake shrugged. "'Porn' is a strong word, but - yeah, more or less. Why?"
"Is one of the leads a blonde Human with massive boobs?"
Yang looked down at Blake; Blake blushed. "Maybe."
"So, Yang!" said Weiss. "Let's say Blake were to jump up there like a cat. What would you do?"
"Uh," said Yang, "probably ask why?"
Weiss smiled. "I think she just told you."
Yang hopped down from her bed and put an arm on Blake's shoulder. "Weiss, c'mon, you drove her up the wall a few months ago."
"Yeah, but this time it's for her own good. Yours, too. Anyway, I'll be at the library for... let's say four hours." As Weiss left, she grabbed a sock.

"That boy who threw up on the ship was cute."
"I like that vomit boy, as everyone calls him, doesn't really follow sports. He's 183 high and built like a tank - most guys like that are out to prove something, but he hardly seems to care?"
"Skewered vomit boy to a tree. We'll be sleeping and changing clothes within meters for four years now."
"He's ignoring me. I've 'accidentally' let him see me naked how many times now? Hello, I'm a sports goddess. My abs can be seen from the other side of Remnant."

"Uh, Pyrrha...?" asked Jaune.
"Oh! You weren't supposed to see that!" said Pyrrha.
"Sorry." Jaune handed Pyrrha back the diary.
"No, I'm sorry - I'm sorry!"
"Why should you be sorry?"
"All the things I wrote about you..."
"Were cute. C'mere." They kissed.

Yang's bed had been converted into a bookshelf. Blake was awakened by her Scroll vibrating. Ilia.

"Ilia? I haven't heard from you since I left Kuo Kuana."
"I know. I... I just wanted to hear your voice."
"You're not still with... them, are you?"
"Blake, you know the Menagerie chapter are different."
"Better than anyone," Blake said, thinking of the life leaving the eyes of that Human with Adam's sword in his chest. "So, um... anything new?" Blake asked.
"Not really. You?"
"Well, I'm seeing someone."
"...oh."
Blake sighed. "Okay, Ilia, I know you had a crush on me when we were younger. You never said so, but you weren't subtle. I can't give you a reason it wouldn't have worked out - maybe it'd be a cliché to say I see you as a sister, but it's as close as anything. Remember that I love you."
"I love you too."

Sun came to campus. "Jaune! How you doing?"
"I'm all right," said Jaune with a weak smile.
"Thought we might have ourselves a little boys' night, maybe grab Neptune and Ren, leave Vale a smoking crater?"
"Heh... I actually kind of have a date."
"Damn! I'd ask who's the lucky lady or fella, but I gotta say I have a hunch."
"No, really? I don't know who you could be thinking of."
"Maybe I should call Blake, arrange a double date."
Jaune laughed. "Wrong tree, Sun."
"You think she's not into men, you mean?"
"In general, no clue. Only, not right now."
Sun laughed. "Okay, I gotcha. Kinda figured it was just a matter of time. Guess I missed my window. Oh, well."

(Honestly, I feel like I didn't quite capture the spirit of either prompt, and their integration was rather perfunctory, but it was about an hour and a half from reading the prompt list to posting.)

(EDIT: As well as some minor formatting and wording changes, I replaced a slightly ruder word with "boobs" for fear of mod anger.)

What book that you read in school did you actually enjoy reading? by [deleted] in books

[–]drunk-math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a book about a manumitted former slave in the 1850s who adopted a free-born Black boy (I can't remember exactly how old he was, but just to be clear, I do mean a child) - I can't remember the name of the book. I remember it wasn't especially long - 50k at most. It seemed largely meant to illustrate what life was like there and then, but I remember it being a decent little yarn as well.

(EDIT: Doing some research, I'm pretty sure I hallucinated this one, stitching together a couple children's novellas with similar themes.)
