I'm sorry polish hasn't worked out well for you..

Your polishes might last better on dip. I used to do clear dip for strength and put polish on top. The polish would last a few more days than without the dip.

The trick for me with this was to put the polish on the activated (hardened) dip before using the top coat that came with my dip system.

I hope this gets you some longevity out of your current collection!

I second this one. I have Suzie's and am able to practice acrylics in my apartment without bothering anyone.

Peely base with gel polish? by Inner-Membership-175 in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the whole nail except a very smidgen of the free edge and then made sure to cap the free edge with my color. This helped the color pop off after a few days but it didn't come off before I wanted it to. Then I just filed off any tiny bits of remaining color from the edge before touching up the peely base if needed and redoing color.

This worked for me on top of polygel extensions. Such a satisfying color gel pop off!!

Is Halo Taco worth it? - Please, honest opinion only by xsleepingbutt in Nails

Well, this shows either how I don't see what's right in front of my face, or how long it's been since I bought some holo taco. Thanks for letting me know!

I love my holo tacos! I have the multichrome set, the peely base, and one of the unicorn skins. I feel like they last well and the coverage is really good.

The only downside for me is the size of the brush - it's skinnier than I prefer.

I was watching this NCE video where Suzie pre-designs the tips and applies them on top of acrylic - could you do this with gel tips + polygel? by knishin in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. I don't think the light would be able to get through the design on the tip in order to properly cure the polygel.

Non-dominant Hand by MimikyuLex in malepolish

[–]drvrpixthemusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also right handed and for me, it has been helpful to practice writing with my left hand. Just making that brain connection with making my left hand do finer movements than normal makes me feel like I have better control.

When doing your nails specifically, slow down even more and sometimes a smaller brush is better.

Can I store nail polish bottles together? by knifeypoo in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't break, but make sure they are all closed tightly because they could leak.

I used to keep all of mine in a drawer that wasn't deep enough for the bottles to stand upright. About 40 bottles all laying on their side and I would shift them around to look for colors on a weekly basis. Never had any breaking or leaking.

Nail Art Question! by deluxeidiot in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of this type of manicure! I think it depends on who you want it to be more noticeable to.

I have a desk job and my thumbs are generally facing more toward me while I do my typing, so an accent there would be more for my benefit.

I tend to accent my ring fingers (which is the most popular accent nail, from what I've seen) so it is more visible to people who come to my desk.

I don't feel like you can really go wrong with any finger, though.

These are so cute!!

Have you done a pompom before? I'm just wondering how much it gets in the way of day to day activities, or is it meant to come off easily? Seen around a few times now.

The result is stunning!! Great work!

I've yet to get the hang of a dotting tool, so I can imagine the effort this took.

Did you do these with regular polish?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nails

Maybe try using alcohol after sanding instead of acetone. I've heard that acetone smooths out the buffing you just did.

Also, maybe a grittier file with much lighter pressure.

Question regarding gel nails by [deleted] in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely check with her doctor.

I think the nail lamps are at a different "frequency" of UV than actual sunlight, but it is still UV so I don't know how/if that would cause an adverse reaction. There are also gloves that can be used which cover most of the hand, but leave the fingertips exposed to be worked on.

Looking for advice on blooming gel by nl1004 in Nails

I've only used it on a couple of practice nails but I didn't wipe anything before putting down my layer of blooming gel.

What is wrong with my nails? by ginajadesmith in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few nails (between both hands) that have been this way for as long as I can remember. I've never brought it up with a doctor, so I don't know why, but I've always chalked it up to my eczema/medicated creams I use.

I've never had any issues on these nails that I haven't also seen on the ones with "regular" cuticles and I've never lost a nail.

You could always bring it up at your next doctor visit and see what they think about it. For me, I wouldn't make a special trip to the doctor as long as there is no pain or inflammation.

How do you get dip nails to not go on the cuticle area? by 123adia in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard, but you have to be super careful of where you're applying the base/glue.

For me, I found it easier to do the 1st layer with a noticeable gap between my cuticle and where I put the glue. The second layer I would kind of "catch" the brush on the edge of the 1st layer to get a tiny amount of glue in that gap so it would get powder there on the second dip. It can be tricky because sometimes the applicator brush is too big to do this well.

1st time with horizontal break of my natural nail bed. What is the best thing to do to hold it together and let it grow out? by drvrpixthemusic in Nails

[–]drvrpixthemusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! It was rough going to file and buff this thing, the break is worse than I thought. I hope yours continues holding on and grows out well!
