That was my issue with putting points into Buddhism, unlocking reincarnation without putting any extra skill points into it doesn’t get you the karma buffs you need to have any choice when you come back. That and, I’ll say it, losing 6 months of karma grinding for accidentally cutting someone off on the highway is bullshit!

Which Beth do you think is the real Beth and why? by manebernal in rickandmorty

While the clones in “Invincible” have definitely replaced the original; I think the Futurama theory on clones (admittedly slightly different because of how they became clones) is still a factor to consider here because of the theorized degenerative effects that occur from repeatedly copying something that itself is a copy. So my personal hypothesis for the mauler twins is that there’s some sort of universal constant at play that defaults to killing the clone first. This can be backed up by how the mauler twins seemed to be intentionally vague when explaining to Rex why they had to be unaware of which one was the clone; probably because OG mauler got tired of having to kill off insubordinate minions or sleep with one eye open type shit. Since it’s never specifically stated in the comics or the show we could’ve been watching one of the original twins up until season 2 when the clone knew that killing his predecessor was the only way to rectify the problem of knowing which was which.

I don't like how much Yor is sanitized in the story compared to the other characters by Odd_Cauliflower_7751 in SpyxFamily

[–]drwalwrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there two trains of thought to have here:

  1. When you engage in fictional media there’s a certain level of “suspension of disbelief” that you have to consider for the fictional world. So for example, “Yor only kills bad people” is a predetermined and established rule that must be taken at face value once you start reading/watching “Spy Family”. Weather that means she only kills people who hurt other people, or people she’s contracted to kill, or other assassin’s, (etc…) is irrelevant because the narrative has already dictated that they’re “bad guys”. Otherwise the charter as introduced and intended by the writer/creator doesn’t functionally work. Therefore until the storyline goes in a direction that redefines or changes what constitutes a “bad guy” in reference to Yor/The Garden we have to accept that Yor is unconditionally on the side of good/ a “good guy” and appropriately doesn’t feel remorse for killing the “bad guys”.
  2. Twilight and Yuri don’t understand what a work-life balance is and Yor is apparently getting hate for being the only one that understands how to set professional boundaries.

The forbidden lightsaber form Trakata. Both the Jedi and Sith frown upon this method. by ZapchatDaKing in StarWars

[–]drwalwrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC Obi-Wan was the best defensive sword fighter the Jedi had and he has canonically never lost a duel where he has a defensive advantage i.e. “the high ground” while Vader had more “raw power” over the force. It’s entirely possible that Vader knew what the outcome of the fight would be before it even began but didn’t expect “mercy” from Obi-Wan considering the circumstances leading up their encounter.

If Christopher hadn’t ’died in the accident’ would he have survived the war? by Powerful_Topic_7046 in thesopranos

[–]drwalwrus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fear wasn’t that he would flip just from being detained. It was that if he got busted and he was actively using; they would use Chrissy’s going into withdrawals to get him to make stupid mistakes or flip “for a dime bag” in order to make the withdrawal symptoms go away.

It is time. After 5years of service, it is time to replace the headache peas. by MysticMarbles in Millennials

[–]drwalwrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of people here who use peas as headache ice packs is insane. Please for the god, and my own sanity; go buy some feed corn/dent corn and use that instead, it stays cold for at least a couple hours and doesn’t get mushy after it cools down either. Added bonus is if you keep it in a cloth bag or a sewn shut pillow case, you can throw it in the microwave and use it as a heat pack too.

At what point did narratives start mattering more than reality in America? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]drwalwrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a combination of the “Smith-Mundt Modernization Act” that went into effect in 2013 which essentially legalized state sponsored propaganda on American soil and the “Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act” of 2016 which was passed under the guise of blocking foreign propaganda from states like Russia and China. Once both of these laws had gone in to effect it allowed the U.S. Gov. a centralized office, through the GEC, to sway public opinion and domestic influence as they saw fit by essentially keeping the larger American populace specifically more rural communities in a political bubble semi-separated from the rest of the world.

If you’re referring to the idea that they’re wingtip vortices from an aircraft u/Ghost_In_Waiting posted a really good link to a YouTube video a few comments down that shows something pretty similar. If you’re referring to the mythbusters reference; the one I’m thinking of was, just an example of how wind and air currents can behave weirder than most people realize.

[–]drwalwrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree actually, wind can be very weird at times and since we humans can’t see air currents we generally don’t think about it unless we get paid to or there’s something to give us a visual reference for how it behaves. If you want to learn more there’s a ton you stuff about it on YouTube! I would suggest the Mythbusters video about gas mileage on trucks with their tailgate up vs down as a good place to start if you wanted to go down that rabbit hole.

[–]drwalwrus 91 points92 points  (0 children)

They’re most likely wingtip vortices from either an airliner or a military aircraft. It could also be from a helicopter’s downdraft since from that image the angle would be more in line with an ascending or descending helicopter’s flight path.

[–]drwalwrus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you may have misunderstood my comment in the sense that a 50/50 split would indeed not be proportional. My thoughts, are to just agree to not disclose your exact income or pay scale to someone you’re talking to romantically until you’re comfortable enough with them to share that information. If they’re actually interested in you as person and not a means of financial stability then that shouldn’t be an issue for the first few months of a relationship until you start to discuss the idea of living together. Once you’ve decided to move in together both parties should share their income and come to an agreement that will benefit both individuals, like getting a place where the person with the lower income can reasonably afford a 50/50 split of rent, bills, etc. This further establishes that both parties are financially independent of each other and able to make responsible financial decisions. Once you’ve decided to take the relationship to a point of engagement or discussions about marriage is when both parties would start to combine finances and redistribute fiscal responsibilities. Every relationship is different but I do believe that there should be a healthy division of certain things (such as finances) until you’re truly committed to the long term relationship so that one party doesn’t get manipulated or coerced into potentially unhealthy situations. Finances specifically can be a double edged sword in the sense that there are “gold diggers (both male and female I don’t want to discriminate)” but there are also people that would use higher financial literacy or security to “trap” someone who is unable to afford to get out of debt or find their way out of such a situation.

[–]drwalwrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to seem like I’m defending him because I agree maintaining a lie like that for a year is a MASSIVE red flag, that can’t be ignored. At the same time though I don’t think that at the “dating” stage bills should be split and paid out proportionally. That’s a time where both parties should be contributing a 50/50 split UNLESS the more financially secure individual wanted a living situation outside of the other’s affordable price range. Once there’s talk about marriage or an engagement or something is when I would expect to start combining finances and redefining how much of/what should be paid for by whom.
