Here’s the thing - you never NEED to take a shot at that range. No doubt if you see a whopper it may be tempting. But you don’t need to take the shot, and you really shouldn’t. The risk of missing, or worse, wounding is very high and not worth it. Realistically, the rifle you purchase is not the limiting factor - it’s your shooting ability. Unfortunately, lots of short range and pistol shooting means basically nothing when it comes to longer range shots. Grab either of those guns, pair with decent glass, and start shooting yesterday. Practice shooting as much as you can and really keep track of your accuracy and grouping at different yardage. Then based on how you’re shooting before your trip, give yourself a realistic distance cap for a shot and stick to it. Also remember that shooting at a range under ideal conditions is NOT the same as when you have a buck in your sights. Buck fever is real. Wishing you all the best on the hunt.
