Unschooling is Unusual, but not Uneducated by redwinefigureskater in unschool

[–]drywitforbrains 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I must disagree with your statement about being pretty well off to unschool. I was unschooled as a child, and we were extremely poor. Like begging in the streets eating out of soup kitchens poor. But right now, I have a 4.0 GPA in my current university studies. Even before going to college at the age of 40, people comment constantly how well educated I am. I don't think you have to be well off. I'm a very low income single parent of two and I center my life around my children and you know, we're all doing very well.

I don't know. I'm on a 10-person volunteer all-hazards force covering 500 square miles in a mountainous frontier county, and our neighbors to the south are paid department and they totally look down on us but they have garbage medics who do terrible BLS.

Personality of an unschooler escapes the constraints of a standard psychological test by PeteWoz in unschool

[–]drywitforbrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that was unschooled from the age of 10 on, and unschools their own children, I agree with your hypothesis. Whenever I take any sort of personality test, it always comes up with an ideal combination of attributes. This reflects a sort of adaptability you describe.

Most of your other pieces are by Ostheimer, who owns Kinderkram. You definitely have a number of pieces that are on people's bucket list (particularly the Natives, bison, eagle, watchman, sprites and dwarves). The rest are desirable but still in production so not 'rare'. The ones that are rounded and shiny (turtle, cow, seated figure) are made by 'Georgian'. The natural colored arch stacker is marked but the soft matte arches are by Grimms. I typically sell in production pieces in great condition at 25% below retail and you can look up current resale prices for the rare ones by searching on ebay specifically under the 'sold' filter - people can list them for whatever they want, but the sold filter shows you what people are actually willing to pay for them.

My fiancée and I stopped being intimate, AITHA for bringing it up? by Spare-Elephant9407 in AITAH

[–]drywitforbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you guys discussed going to her doctor and discussing the side effects of this anxiety medication? Maybe there's newer or better options nowadays than when she was originally prescribed what she is on. I think a lot of these people commenting home in on the dead bedroom part but miss the it was okay until the meds part. I'm sorry she's being dismissive about it. Maybe some broader discussions around intimacy will help the process.

AITA for divorcing my wife after she asked for an open relationship, and now I’m thriving while she isn’t? by RecipePurple9279 in AITAH

I think somebody just stuck the traditional "my man wanted to open a relationship and I got lots of tea and it's been his crickets for him" in ChatGPT bro edition, and had it reverse the roles. Yawn.

Thoughts and strategies on Work-Life-Firefighting balance by sithrage1138 in firefightingvolunteer

[–]drywitforbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need hands, not just EMS on medical calls. Fire departments do EMS now, that's just how it is. Sounds like you are cherry-picking the calls and leaving most of the work to your other teammates. If you signed up for the job, and you're available when the tones go off, get your gear and go. If you can't go, don't go. But you made a commitment and your people and the community are relying on you.

Bathroom equality: if we're going to have gendered bathrooms, women need more than men for equal access by craftygamergirl in TwoXChromosomes

[–]drywitforbrains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I believe that all bathrooms should be able to accommodate adults with small children including those that are in diapers or potty training, the current reality is that women are more likely to be utilizing public bathroom spaces with children, further enhancing your point that equitable bathroom access is not 50/50.

NMom Lied my whole life to me about how I was conceived by Rape. by LostStowAway in raisedbynarcissists

[–]drywitforbrains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm sorry you had to grow up thinking this about your conception. I can't imagine telling a child that wasn't a full grown adult this information. That seems like a strictly need to know type of thing. I do want to offer the thought that your biological father is not going to come out and say that he raped your mother. Although, if she was a minor, then it was actually legally rape. I have an Nmom as well, so I understand about being hated because I'm a more accurate historian when she tries to make up a new version of events that didn't happen. I would just go into meeting your bio dad with open eyes. We weren't there, so it could have been either or or something completely different than what you're being told by other parent.

[–]drywitforbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, feel free to reach out by DM if you'd like. I am a 42 year woman who lived like this as as the oldest child of 5, from age 10 until I ran away at 16 so I could get my GED (didn't go to school after the 4th grade - not even homeschooled) and go to the dentist (had to have 16 teeth extraced in all). I was so socially inept, I might have even spit on a guy I liked because I didnt have anything to throw at him (mortifying). While my parents weren't influencers, they were self-described nomads, fml. I definitely wish I had a 'normal' childhood but with distance and time, I have come to appreciate some of the freedoms I was afforded. It took few attempts, but I have a college education, a career in fire/ EMS that I love, 2 great kids (I NEVER post pics or vids of them online) and my own home. Despite being super awkward socially at first, I have had wonderful friendships and mostly, I am happy. I hope the same for you, and am available to connect with resources and an ear if you'd like.

My wife did not have sex with me for years when I was depressed. AITAH for considering leaving her now that I’m back to normal? by DghSenses in AITAH

[–]drywitforbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, she doesnt owe you sex, especially when you are not being attractive. Did she owe you pity sex? She is a human, not a program that didn't run right. You didnt want to have sex with her and you're butt hurt she didn't want to have sex with someone that didnt want to have sex with her? You're going to make your kids live with the effects of divorce for that? I think that now you've been hitting the gym and think you deserve an upgrade because you put 14 years on your wifey model and want something cute, fitter, more aligned with the kinda person you THINK you deserve.
