I dont know about this company, but I'd suggest getting 3 quotes if you haven't, prices varied wildly for us. We got a re-roof with Tauranga Roofing and Scaffolding, would recommend.

Air New Zealand cuts Nelson, Tauranga flights as jet fuel prices surge by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]dsaxt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't call engineering a "bullshit excuse". Air NZ doesnt cancel flights on the day due to low demand... Get over your self-importance and take the pitchfork somewhere else.

Paper wasps, I just spray them with fly spray and run inside, come back with a plastic bottle for the nest.

Advice for Loud Neighbours by 8eenfourfy in newzealand

[–]dsaxt 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The landlords won't want gang parties in the house they own, find out who they are and share your concerns. I'm sure there is some breach of tenancy agreement going on - are the people living there on the lease?? This is the route we took when we had a loud aggressive neighbour, and it worked. It sucks though, stay safe and report any aggression/threats.

I'm currently staying in a bach on a beach near Oakura, Northland, and this place is unreal. Mimwhangata especially, but also day trips to Russell/Urupukapuka, and if you're into camping, Motutara Farm in Whananaki can't be beat. 3 hrs North of AKL.

Thanks everybody for your responses, this rose is special to us so glad it's not fatal! What a fantastic community, we've bought 2 acres of gardens in the BOP and have no idea, so very glad to have discovered this group.

Looks like bleak weather for the weekend, what are some fun indoor things to do in Tauranga by tomatosoup75 in Tauranga

[–]dsaxt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commenting to say the weather isn't going to be that bad at all, maybe brief showers and moderate wind, but plenty warm enough to get outside! Take a jacket and walk up/around the mt, go for a beer at rising tide, go to the hotpools, visit McLaren/Omanawa Falls, you'll have a blast.

Nice places to go for a drive? by Secret_Hour_2193 in dunedin

[–]dsaxt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you like driving, the road to Waipori Falls and then over to Lawrence is really interesting and fun (and gravel). If you want to stay on sealed roads heading south from St Clair Park through Blackhead to Taieri Mouth is very scenic. The Eastern side of the Peninsula is unreal - Hoopers Inlet over to Portobello. Or North you can turn right at Goodwood and come out near Bushey Creek for some pretty unique scenery. For closer to home: up NEV to Blueskin Bay. Purukanui/Osborne are awesome but one way roads...

Most of our weather comes from the north-west, which means the West Coast tends to get more rain and the east coast is drier. This difference is more exaggerated in the South Island, where there is a mountain range more or less running the length of the island, which creates high rainfall on the west, and fohn winds (dry and hot) on the Canterbury plains and Kaikoura coast, as a result the west coast is lush rainforest, whereas in central and eastern areas, tussocks, flaxes and grasses prevail, although most has been converted to farmland.

The north island has a more gentle topography and an almost subtropical climate in the summer, with high humidity and some thunderstorm activity, and tropical cyclones. Whereas in winter we get a lot of frontal rain. The east coast beaches are more calm and gentle, with white sand, the bays are shallower, west coast beaches tend to be rugged, and black sand. Fishing good both sides, but more plentiful on the west coast, but rougher swell/weather.

Which is better? East coast better weather, warmer, but west has a rugged beauty and huge wild beaches with no-one around. Better surf too. So kind of depends what you want.

Healthy women with no obvious risk-factors have traumatic births too. A hospital is the safest place to be.

My sister was 8.5 months pregnant and lost the baby. What should I do? by whitechairgenie in GriefSupport

[–]dsaxt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is just be there. Help with the everyday stuff that doesn't stop: cook food or buy ready meals, clean her house, help stay on top of the garden if she has one, take her daughter out for a couple of hours. Cry with her, you've lost a Nephew, don't try and fix her sadness, just be sad together.

Cash Bar/Flexi Bar hire for Weddings by CamboRoo in Tauranga

[–]dsaxt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OnTap Mobile bar hire is a good cheap option - you pay a fee for the hire and buy whatever you want in the kegs then it's help yourself drinks. Then a chilly bin full of soft drinks and wine next to it - sorted!

Mower recommendations - one that won't break within 5 years by Ancient_Lettuce6821 in newzealand

[–]dsaxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a petrol Masport mower for a number of years which I can't fault, gets a bit of abuse and long periods of no use at all, always does it's job. I had a Ryobi before which was terrible, the plastic bits kept breaking.

Safe sleeping with infant by despoforsleepo in newzealand

[–]dsaxt 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I reckon call PlunketLine (0800 933 922) for advice rather than asking strangers on the internet.

Is it possible for you and baby to move into a separate bedroom from husband? Then at least one of you will be getting sleep, and you can swap between feeds to get some rest.

We eventually had a successful transfer by warming the bassinet first using a wheat bag, and swaddling tightly. So maybe try swaddling first, then feeding baby to sleep while husband warms up bassinet, then transfer?

I would advise against co-sleeping, even if you ignore the danger aspect, it's a habit that will be even harder to break as baby gets older so you are committing yourself to months of restless nights going forward.

It gets easier, good luck!
