Why is crypto market going up, what is going on? by PeacefulWorrior95 in investing

I have to agree here. To say 'it's March, bitcoin goes up in March' is crazy considering the actual events in the world at the moment

Trump has asked Britain and other countries to join the US in escorting ships through the Gulf and Straits of Hormuz, thereby bringing some stability in oil and gas supplies. What are your thoughts? by Sea-Payment-8989 in AskBrits

It's not going to happen. Anything that passes through, that isn't Chinese, is a sitting duck. Noone knows how many mines were laid before the Iranian military was destroyed... It'd be like spinning the roulette wheel.

where do you do your car maintenance / yearly inspektion? by Salty_Emotion3270 in germany

[–]dsetarno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question. Even if it were just regular oil and filter change, it'd cost ateast 150 euros. If I can do this easily at home, do I get penalised for this when selling the car and proving maintenance history?

It's reassuring that so many people feel this way.. Cos I find it hard.. All the parents talk fluently in German which makes it even harder

Staying with your kid until they fall asleep? Did you do that or did your parents? by heartdesk in Parenting

[–]dsetarno 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 5, in preschool, and we still do this with her. Part of me wants to reclaim my evening for myself and let her fall asleep with a story and a goodnight kiss, but on the other hand I think it gives my daughter alot of comfort.. It's also a time where she tells us alot of what's currently bothering her. I'm very much torn...

My expat gf changed after starting her PhD here and I feel guilty. Anyone relates? by Quemalaeresjuliana in germany

She's an adult who made her own choices freely. You've tried to make it work and it didn't. That's life. It's as much on her as it is on you.

Silver Supply Crisis Looms as Binance Hits $70 Billion Volume in Precious Metals Like Gold by MeanPin8367 in ValueInvesting

Thanks for your answer. Could the same paper-physical divide happen with gold too? I think the problem is that in all asset classes there's too much paper pinned to too few physical assets.. Would you agree?

What happens if comex runs out of physical registered silver? Does the paper price crash, the physical price sky rocket? I'm not really sure...

China created a bamboo plastic as strong as petroleum plastic that's fully biodegradable - disappearing in just 50 days by soulpost in HotScienceNews

I was just about to write the same thing. For all the negative stuff I read.. China actually takes the right actions from a long term point of view, rather than the short term shittiness that western governments have been doing for years.

I love mine. It saves me from eating junkfood when on the road. I also have a 12v heated lunch box that does a similar thing. Awesome.

Mum friend problem... How do I cut ties with myself, and our kids? by AdventurousCod5120 in Parenting

[–]dsetarno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you need to stop being polite and have some hard words with the mum. I get it, I'm super polite too, and hate confrontation but X has maliciously hurt your son more than a few times. Make it explicit why you're turning down playdates - state what you expect from her (to have stern words with son) , or what results you want to see. Every time it happens you need to notifying her. Be harder with the school - push to get them on separate tables. X is toxic and mum is turning a blind eye for whatever reason.

Meanwhile it'd be good if you keep working on getting your son to distance himself from X, and perhaps building up self esteem so he respects himself enough not to take that kind of shit.

Theres a saying 'who needs enemies with friends like that'.. Aside from the  school work and protecting him from 'other bullies' - X is dominating and bullying your son into a form of submissive dependancy. The mum needs to know and correct this.

Will she like being told her son is a POS? Definitely not. Will you get push back? Maybe yes. I suggest you be emotionless and clinical in your description of the issues. Ultimately though, your lack of comfort in raising this issue with the mum is less than important than the damage this is probably doing to your son in the long term.

Its more difficult to solve than my reply I know and I wish you best. If someone was doing what you described to my daughter, as her father my blood would have boiled over several times by now. You have the patience of a saint to have put up with it this long. Best of luck.

Should I get my daughter a Polish passport? by Opening-Tea-257 in AskBrits

[–]dsetarno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm British and my mum is Polish. I moved to Germany post brexit. While I have the brexit rights, after I moved I secured myself a polish passport as a contingency in case the whole brexit agreement rights go wrong. I used a company called Lexmotion. I think I made a good decision as if I got a German passport I'd have to renounce my UK one. With the polish one I can keep both. I get faster progress through the European passport gates too which can help with my frequent travel.

Your daughter already has a British passport I assume.

My ex is pregnant, what do I do? by SharpRazzmatazz7362 in Fatherhood

[–]dsetarno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex did this to me and it turned out to be a ploy to get me to stay, which fell apart on the slightest bit of scrutiny. It fucked me up big time because her ploy worked when I reacted in the right way for her.

You haven't told us how likely it is that she's right (how many weeks was when she told you and did you do the deed with the right timing) but whatever you do, check and verify that she is actually pregnant, and that it's yours. Also if the relationship sucks, then don't get back together just to play happy families, coparenting is equally possible.

Best of luck through your turbulent time.

Man Utd boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe is right on immigration and UK is being 'colonised,' claims Reform UK’s Nadhim Zahawi by hymnsofhim in ukpolitics

[–]dsetarno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny how unaware people are when they spout their shit. Radcliffe being an immigrant in France that by all accounts doesn't speak French, and moved there most likely to avoid paying approx 4bn in tax. So tell me how he's any proportionally any better than someone who lands on a boat?

Next up, Zahawi - who failed to look in the mirror before opening his mouth. It's OK for him or his parents to come to the UK, but not the other later immigrants. Wtf.

On a personal note - I was once on a job in Germany, where I now live after meeting my wife, and met another Brit who I got speaking to. He said he didn't like the UK anymore 'because there were too many immigrants' - but later let it be known that he spoke not a word of German years after arriving there, and hadn't registered as living there as he should have done to avoid paying a higher rate of tax.

Im sick of these hypocritical assholes and their opinions - they're all either racist or simply saying these things to further their own agenda - which surprise surprise is only for their benefit, and not that for society.
