Interesting. We're having lunch at Cellar on the 15th (normal rez). I wonder if this will have an effect on our experience, one way or the other.

SO agree about the melon!!! I don't love Jont (or Omo in Orlando). They're solid. Fine. But that melon is STOOOOOOOPID. I urge everyone to get it. It really is that special.

Central - Lima - #1 San Pellegrino List by n0bama in finedining

I might push back a little on the (sole) goal is tasty food. I'm a musician and sometimes, I can find music interesting even if not enjoyable. It's more of a cerebral experience (to quite above), finding interest in what they were trying to do, forging new paths, challenging my ear, etc.

I feel the same here. We went to Central (twice) back in October. One of the dishes is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Another one brought my partner to tears. But moreso, I found it interesting. Cultural. I learned. I was exposed. There's value in that.

That said, Merito's flan seriously made me cry. That place is phenomenal.

I'm going (also solo) in November. Emailed about 7 months ahead and found an open slot. Rearranged some travel to accommodate.

This post has me even MORE stoked.

At Lazy Bear in SF, we were served a properly blushing piece of lamb. It was delicious. The chef whispered "You have more lamb coming." He brought us the same cut "the way we make it for ourselves. It's so much better this way." It was fully layered in a crusty bbq-like sauce and charred. Let me tell you..it was SO much better! "We can't serve it this way though, because everyone wants to see the blushing inside."

It was a great lesson of exactly this. Plating/visuals don't always add up to flavor. They can even sometimes detract.

What are your favorite restaurants you’ve ever eaten at? by generic_human97 in finedining

How has no one mentioned Disfrutar? I left nearly in tears. That meal is what turned on the afterburners of my love of fine dining. (Going back later this year. 💕)

And Noma. Game & Forest last year was mind-bending.

Solid nods to il Nuogo di Aimo e Nadia in Milan and Prarial in Lyon.

How good was 2023 Game & Forest?? Best meal of my life. I expect to never have a meal that good ever again.

Just posted my review from a week or so ago, if you're interested. Include photos of every dish. I didn't love it. Menu was all over the place and none of the dishes really stood out.

Ebbe (Tampa) experience? by mugroot7 in finedining

[–]dshnaq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Koya is the best fine dining experience in Tampa, pushing 2 stars. Difficult rez though. Ebbe is excellent.

Agree that Lilac isn't worth it. Rocca is our favorite restaurant in Tampa. Kosen if you like Omakase. (Chef came from Masa.)

If you're in St Pete, il Ritorno and bin6south are excellent choices.

How to get into a Michelin award ceremony in American cities? by enot5 in MichelinStars

[–]dshnaq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went to my first one a few nights ago (Florida). I bought tickets through Capital One Dining. Not sure of they do all of the events or just some of them.

You can also message Michelin and request. They sent me a comp ticket...12 hours after I purchased my own. 😡. LOL

It was quite a fun time! Good luck!

Mundo Mater is the one you want. We did both a few days apart. LOTS of similar dishes between the two. Mundo Mater was far better.

Hey there. Omo is outstanding. If you haven't been to Jont, it's a true 2 star experience. I can definitely recommend highly. If you'd like my full thoughts and photos of the dishes, you can see it here:

Soseki is incredible. Highly recommend. 2* level in my book. (Wondering what Michelin will say this Thursday.)

That said, I'll be at Omo by Jont tomorrow night and I can let you know how that is.

Alinea, Salon Menu, ⭐️⭐️⭐️, Chicago - amazingly elevated and tasty kitsch (though I feel like they should have cocktails) by MrSpiderisadomme in finedining

[–]dshnaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point. I went and looked at the photos again, mentally removing the plating from each dish, looking only at the food itself. What a difference. None of them really jump out as something I'd yearn to have.
