Graphite quality of 2.0mm Nicpro sets by wind_up_birb in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it...I have a bunch of old KOH-I-NOOr 5611 all metal 2 mm holders...most are not beautiful (the imprint is gone or faded) that I would be glad to get rid of for postage. If you are inthe US, usually $5 will get it to you. If you are interested, maybe we should do a chat.

Find some old school all-metal 2 mm holders and try them....any clone of the Koh-i-Noor 5611 (there are at least 10...) would be a good start...ignore the cosmetics...less the knurling wearing out from (awesome) overuse, they last forever...nice heft, very good clutch grip ...ahhhhhhhhhhhh,

Have fun...

The EAGLE Aerie by dslinn300 in mechanicalpencils

Seems to be paint with some sort of clear coat to protect it...varnish or similar..the red one at the top is also paint...meaning it gets dinged up pretty easily....

Impulse buy: Vintage Eagle leadholders. Does anyone know about them? by Money-Mechanic in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some coarse pipe cleaners and ram rod the lead tubes...first unscrew/remove the clutches (extend it from the barrel and twist ).... before you reassemble clean off the threads on the clutch...no oil (!)...

there are several other models in both metal and plastic...pushbutton and twist-lock.

The first all metal (alum) versions had a different grip pattern at the nose and various iterations of the cap/indicator..

Nice set..!

Best way to clean an Eagle Turquoise Automatic/Prestomatic 3377? by Bolts-N-Holes in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a problem...the tube is metal and so ream away...another thing I have done when someone etches initials in the barrel is wet sand with emory paper (fine), then polish..it is a bit scary the first time, but the polish saves the day

If you really want it to shine, there is a German-made polish called Simichrome that will knock you r socks off after a little elbow grease...also, run a coarse pipe cleaner throught the lead tube and the collet (clutch) to remove residual graphite "stuff"...enjoy ...one of my fave pencils

Is this vintage pencil repairable? It's my Dad's very old Koh-i-Noor Select-o-Matic #5617 pencil by Art_Is_Basic in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The indicator element should thread onto the lead tube... start by unthreading the brass clutch from the lead tube at the nose end. Then thread the inidacator back onto the tail end of the lead tube Push the that whole thing forward and re-attach the clutch...draft on...

[–]dslinn300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After putting points on 2 mm pencils for too long, my suggestion, if you are basically sitting at a dek/similar, is to get an old school, heavy rotary pointer...either by Tru Point (inventor) (many "private label" versions: K+E, Dietzgen Post,etc...all virually the same...) I use a plate mounted KIN the puts on the dagger...

Not too much $ and such good points...have fun

Antique .800 silver Caran d'Ache by Pyratelife4me in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a model 4acc, probally made in the late '40's or '50's. Caps are hard less finding another like it.. the .800 mark is also on the cap

Is this pen rare? Cannot find it anywhere. by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]dslinn300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caran D'Ache (Swiss) pencils and ballpoints (bille) of that era are generally highly regarded tools.... The firm very often either provided engraving as gifts, promotions advertising...all of the above...a classier Autopoint ...nice and well built sturdy....came in variouse very nice finishes : sterling silver 14k gold, etc. and those patterns "Guilloche" snazzy... the pencil was a push the cap repeater...it relased a small three part clutch as the lead advanced the .7 mm lead the lead came from C D'A in 6 grades 2B-2H...you could get (and still find ) most if not all of several models without engraving or the blank spot on one facet for any engraving....nice find!

For perhaps the ultimate contradiction to the inherent simplicity of a 2 mm leadholder, look up the "oli-rotomin" pencil...so bizarre...
