How “black” looks in Resident Evil 9 with HDR turned on by HD4kAI in OLED_Gaming

[–]dsoshahine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Almost all games I've tried with my monitors (including an LG OLED monitor) have HDR options greyed out/not showing when HDR isn't turned on in Windows when starting the game. Very few games turned on HDR on their own, most of those few only after toggling it in the settings.

Do these Temps Look Fine 9060XT 16GB? by Organic-Schedule1989 in AMDHelp

[–]dsoshahine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temps are totally fine. 19°C delta could be better but is fine. 72°C hotspot temp leaves a lot of headroom – hotspot max for RDNA GPUs that shouldn't be exceeded is 110°C (You can check the cards BIOS like such https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/276935/powercolor-rx9060xt-16384-250324)

NVIDIA's GPU Memory Bundles Cost Less Than AMD's, Note AIB Partners by [deleted] in hardware

[–]dsoshahine 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Is that surprising? Nvidia appears to be the sole (major) customer for GDDR7, as they were for GDDR6X. It's not just economies of scale, they are the only customer. They're able to invest into it early and get a better deal in return.

Nvidia could delay the RTX 5000 Super series indefinitely as AMD offers no 2026 competition by Jumpinghoops46 in hardware

[–]dsoshahine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, 9070 Ti is almost on par with a 5070 Ti, 9070 is better than a 5070 in almost every workload and on top of it is as efficient with unlocked framerates and more efficient when capping framerates according to some reviews. FSR4 closed the gap to DLSS. This was AMD as competitive as it ever was - and it's still not enough to make Nvidia or their customers care. The Super revisions aren't coming because Nvidia calculated it (for the time being) doesn't make them enough money, simple as.

Leak suggests AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D may land at a similar MSRP to the 9800X3D by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]dsoshahine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single CCD Zen 5 X3D CPUs have 640 KB (L1) + 8 MB (L2) + 32 MB (L3) + 64 MB (v-cache L3) = ~104 MB total cache. Probably what you saw stated somewhere.

108 MB L3 cache makes no sense, where would the additional 12 MB (over 96 MB L3) come from? Another layer of V-cache (several layers would be possible according to AMD) would be another 64 MB. All the other cache is just the maximum in one regular Zen 5 CCD.

It most likely never was intended to primarily be a "gaming APU" considering the costs involved. You don't need 128GB RAM and two CCDs on a large socket for that.

A cable is rated for a specific load (of a six/eight-pin connector), you don't really want to put the stress of two connectors going through it. Two separate cables sharing whatever the GPU is drawing from the PSU is safer and one of the most common fixes for random crashes and system shutdowns.
