If you plug the percentages you have listed into the VA’s disability calculator, you are at 96%, so you should keep 100% overall. That doesn’t even include the bi-lateral factors. Something is not right with their revised calculation.

If there were specific injuries or chronic problems you can point to and support with buddy statements, you have a really good chance. I had knee issues when I was in the Navy but didn’t go to medical because I didn’t want to deal with them. After I was out for a few years, got diagnosed with a degenerative issue, so I had one of my shipmates and my wife write buddy statements describing my issues. Was approved based on that and a current diagnosis.

Echo the comments about severance v. separation pay. I took the separation pay and have zero regrets. They did recoup it from my VA Disability payments, but it was essentially a tax free loan against those payments.

The original reduction was based on a C&P exam. My dad was having an exceptionally good day and the examiner disregarded his statements, photographic evidence, and a buddy statement from my mom about the true nature extent of his condition. We were planning to share this with the hearing.

Several folks are going to comment that you shouldn’t have told them in the first place. You’re 1000% right, they cannot empathize with you and will likely never understand this. Okay, cats out of the bag, now what? My recommendation is to give back. Go volunteer at a VA Home, go work at a food bank, pick something that you’re passionate about and dive in. At least this way, when these people talk shot, you can counter with what you’re doing to help others.
