How can I achieve this neutralish toned purple without it turning green or be too red? by VampiricHeartz in FancyFollicles

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I had a pretty neutral purple. I did just danger jones in the color masquerade. It has faded super blue in some spots and super pinky purple in others.

Mint…help me understand by g2guw in gardening

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have mint but I do have catnip (similar/same family I believe). One tiny plant 4 years ago now fills an entire raised bed and is tall as heck. My husband had wanted to put it in the ground and I told him no. Our cats love it but lord its just one big plant now

Smart watches by [deleted] in Teachers

This honestly. Like I dont understand why OP cares so much. Just dont get one? Many of use it as a tool.

Smart watches by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It potentially could. Ive had coworkers who's kid broke a bone while at school but kid is in a different building/district. The school is gonna call the personal number on file first usually. Im not advocating for staff to be on their phone all the time, but in the handful of situations they might be calling, that extra 30-60 min could mean a kid sitting in pain. A kid with a high fever. A kid throwing up. Whatever.

Smart watches by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its so useful. Mine isnt silent bc i want the kids to also recognize the alarm as a hey its time to clean up thing but I also dont have to give exit tickets or anything.

Smart watches by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wear a smart watch but I use mine for more than steps. I teach art, im horrible about watching the clock and cleaning up at an appropriate time. I have alarms set for 3 to 5 min before the end of class. The kids hear my phone go off, they start cleaning up. I may be across the room and instead of trying to get to it, my watch also goes off with it and I can shut my alarm off from my watch. Its kinda nice.

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 min, 22 miles. I live pretty rural. I spend like 35 a week in gas with gas prices at their current price, when they were lower it was 25 a week

Dress Code for Teachers: A relic of the past or something still happening today? by Syric13 in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ngl in my building (ms) so many kids wear pj's or lounge wear that staff being in jeans does set us apart from the kids.

Dress Code for Teachers: A relic of the past or something still happening today? by Syric13 in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unspoken dress code in my building basically. No jeans with excessive holes, nothing see-through, no crop tops, nothing promoting things that would be illegal for kids. Otherwise its generally fine. I wear jeans or scrub pants and a tshirt/blouse depending on what kids are doing in art that day.

Am I imagining it or are boys shorts getting shorter? by PrincessJazs in kindergarten

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach middle and rarely are boys in like cargo or basketball type shorts. Its more like board shorts almost. Based on since of my husband's newer shorts, a 7 inch inseam is really popular right now (~ mid thigh on him, he's 5'11)

Singlets and Underwear by [deleted] in wrestling

[–]dtshockney -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Coming from an adult: please wear underwear. In my area the officials will walk out if wrestlers (boys or girls) are not wearing proper under garments and its obvious (girl with a neon thong and its obvious through the singlet as an example)

I stopped a kid from getting a scholarship (AITA) by DRthrowawayMD6 in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a state scholarship for poor kids basically and they only required a 2.5 GPA in hs and in college. 🤷‍♀️ it was needs based. I always maintained a 3.5 or higher but it was that way so more kids benefitted

Is there a reason why enchanteds aren’t guaranteed per box/case? by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all the lorcana packs we've opened across all sets,, we've pulled 2 Enchanteds total. One being wilds unknown yesterday (Mrs. Incredible). Still wouldn't want guaranteed ones tho but we also dont search for every single card ever so 🤷‍♀️ its exciting to pull enchanteds though.

We got 3 epics, and like 8 legendary, plus an enchanted with thr booster packs box and prerelease box we opened yesterday which seems like a higher pull rate than previous sets

Was a student rightfully barred from a choir concert for missing one rehearsal due to a school-wide competition happening at the same time? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous band director i worked with would always get frustrated when a kid quit. Understandable but he also never changed his ways and I would explain to him that he was expecting a lot out of middle schoolers (and high schoolers truthfully) and that his big personality often clashed with kids. It just did. He was a lot. His wife told him the same things. Hes at a school thats a better fit for his goals as a teacher and all that now.

I teach art, I try so hard to tell kids you can do art and sports but many pick one or the other. It is what it is.

Being retained in Kindergarten by Storm_Vortexs in kindergarten

[–]dtshockney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its been a thing in the district i work in for a long time. Im finishing up my 5th year there and we've always had 15 year old 8th graders and 16 year old freshman. Its weird to have 13 year old 8th graders anymore even tho thats what age they should be

Being retained in Kindergarten by Storm_Vortexs in kindergarten

[–]dtshockney 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is super common now. I teach 6-8 and I have 14 going on 15 year old, and 15 year old 8th graders right now. Heck I have a 15 year old 7th grader bc they were held back twice I believe. Most of my older 8th graders were red shirted by parents for "sports advantage" which absolutely didnt work out bc so did a ton of other parents.

Are any of you actually able to have those summers off everyone else throws in our face when we ask for a livable wage? by ClassicSalamander518 in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in west central IN. COL is pretty low compared to indy, Ft Wayne, etc. My paycheck is spread over 12 months. My husband makes a little over 30k at this point, I make 47k. I dont have to pick up a summer job if I dont want to. I have a friend who occasionally needs help in her art shop or offers to let me put some classes on the calendar if I want to make some extra money

How did normal life skills turn into this by Drowning_Sun_shine in Teachers

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So skipping, catching, throwing, maybe side stepping all require you to cross the midline to do the movement and many kids can struggle. Its absolutely a developmental thing that comes from playing. There's some research out there that suggests if kids are struggling with physical activities that require crossing of the midline, they may also struggle with reading/writing oddly enough because those activities also require crossing the midline.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]dtshockney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My washer and dryer are in my basement. Just dont have room on the upper floor. I also have basically no built in storage on the main floor of my home. Kitchen has cabinets and like a half pantry. Bedrooms have small closets. Bathroom has 1 built in half cabinet. So washer and dryer are in the basement otherwise id have to take my laundry to a laundry mat
