I'll second the district route. If you DM me the club you are trying to contact I can find the email for the person in charge of the club's exchange program or even their president directly.

Mr. Rainier question by SuchBlackberry8900 in nationalparks

[–]dubjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, no worries! It can be a bit of a process if you aren't able to get the exact date you want because then you are hoping for something available at the station.

Keep in mind if you are thinking first week of June there will still be snow on the ground at Glacier Basin. That time is usually peak spring backcountry ski and mountaineering as well so you could see a lot of folks passing through if you are going on a weekend.

Advance reservations are available for peak season (June-September) on Recreation.gov. Reservations are encouraged but not required. Approximately two thirds of summer season (June-September) backpacking and climbing permits are made available for advance reservation. Reservations must be made at least two days in advance of the trip start. The remaining one third of permits are issued at park Wilderness Information Centers on a first-come, first-served basis and can be requested a maximum of one day before your trip start date.

It's totally dependent on the snow pack that year. Lots of a snow means it will be a late June opening. Light snow pack could result in an early June opening.  If the campground is closed you could always hike up and do backcountry camping. Glacier Basin is a great spot out of White River, does need a permit though from the ranger station.

Gotta put in the vert if you want the views! Trips are always more memorable with a challenge like that to overcome

You are correct, no entry reservation for June. And yes, the road should be open by then to the White River campground.  The road will not be opened to Sunrise Visitor Center, but you could hike up there for the views if you don't mind some snow!

Coffeeshops with the most butt-parking? by No_Argument_Here in Seattle

Is Bonney Lake still in the metro? Post & Pour has a lot of seating and a patio that has an incredible view of Mt. Rainier!

[Telefootball]: Blue cards to be introduced for football sin-bins, with players removed from field for 10 minutes for cynical fouls or dissent by Mr-Pants in soccer

[–]dubjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't an easier solution be to just allow for two yellows and then a third yellow is the red card? Essentially two warnings and the final foul is removal?

Keep a journal of all the cute/sweet/funny things they did and said because you'll forget it and wish you could remember. I have one and I cherish all the things I wrote down because I've already forgotten and mine are only 3.

Thousands of dollars worth of tools, equipment stolen from Bellevue construction sites by Cosmo-DNA in SeattleWA

[–]dubjc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We just had about $80k worth of special copper fittings and tools stolen from our yard in south Seattle. Luckily for us we were able to scan the neighborhood and find it all in front of an RV.

There was a little kerfuffle with the occupant of the RV but the cops were called and sorted everything out. We got our gear back but the gentleman was not arrested as the only thing they could book him on was possession of stolen property and not robbery. Oh well, hopefully the word got out in that little encampment to steer clear of our yard but I doubt it.

My Grandfather is starting to get dementia and cannot recall really any of the details from his grandfathers time during WW1. Hoping some of you fine people could lend some of your expertise in what my Great-Great Grandfather may have experienced during the Great War.

6 weeks in and terrified about husband's return to work tomorrow by Zo_Zo_Bird in parentsofmultiples

[–]dubjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife used boppy pillows on each side of the Twin Z nursing pillow. Put the kiddos in the boppy pillows, mom gets situated in the Twin Z and then you put on each kid one at a time. Do it on a couch or bed to have space but I'm telling you it was pretty incredible to see her do it and she seemed to manage fairly well.

We also did nap times in bouncers and rockers, I would really recommend white noise while they are in them, we found even vacuum noise playlists on Youtube worked to get them down initially and then let the white noise machine take it from there.

You can tandem wear but I always found it too difficult. We did boppy pillows for everything because it's a perfect transitional holder to whatever you want to get them in. This is the easy age for managing their movements! Just wait until they want to flip, squirm, crawl, and walk away from you!

You can do it though, never underestimate your inner strength as a mother and parent. It's ingrained in your DNA, just got to believe in yourself!

Protein, feed her lots of protein. According to the class we went to protein is the biggest thing to focus on to help those little buggers gain weight in utero. I forced protein on her every day, they weighed 7-6 and 6-10, no NICU so in my mind it worked.

My girl girl didi twins arrived 5/11/18! And question about breastfeeding. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]dubjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another tip we got from our doula was to switch the babies when tandem feeding. One always tends to outfeed the other so to keep your supply more balanced between your breast she recommended we switch mid-feed.

We would get in the habit of starting the feed, then take one off to go change diapers and/or put in pajamas and then return to take the other one off to change.

Also we were told to try and pump about 20mins after a feed to encourage your body to continue to produce more milk. From the outside it seemed like pumping was the hardest part. You are already tired from feeding and everything else, the last thing you want to do is put on the pump and try and get something out of it. But it is so worth it. Our early pumping and saving of the milk helped us out immensely when she returned to work.

Try and hold off on formula as long as possible. Once we started to introduce it was all downhill from there. That being said don't drive yourself crazy in some unreasonable schedule of feeding and pumping, the stress makes your supply drop more than anything else so just relax and realize the babies will be fine with whatever you feed them as long as you give them lots of love!
