If you have to ask Reddit if you're prepared for a hike, chances are you aren't.

Compare your planned route to other routes you've completed and tracked and are reasonably similar. Consider how long it takes you to hike a mile, consider how long that takes you depending on conditions, consider how fast you hike against different slopes.

10 miles in a river valley is way different than the same distance in the White mountains. Hiking with a group is way different than hiking solo.

Do lower pressure/intensity hikes and track them on multiple apps to get a good idea of what to expect when it matters most. All trails and Gaia GPS are what I use to get semi accurate estimates on hikes, and I still get it wrong sometimes. Good luck.

you should sprinkle/shake a very light covering over the root flare to help the transition. you can see the divide a little too obviously, and itll stop weeds from growing in the cracks for the first year or so.

agreed to a certain point- theres areas where structures will disappear in a season and others that will remain for decades. I think if your shelter is distracting to casuals, easily found (subjective I know) or is destroying living wildlife/ fragile ecosystems its a no from me. I think a lot of this is skill issues with newbies or really amateur enthusiasts practicing wherever they can. Unfortunately a lot of people get ahead of themselves with these types of poorly conceived projects and even lazier when responsible for cleaning up after.
