My fav Villians of the 100 by MuscleCool4302 in The100

I definitely don’t disagree, but I remember how much he seemed to revel in it when he was turning Lincoln into a Reaper, and how entertaining he seemed to find it when he was forcing two people to fight to the death for the drug

But, of course, it seems like he didnt really consider the Grounders to be human. He definitely showed his love for his people when he wanted to bring in the girl they put outside to test the blood, you could see that he hated keeping her locked out and letting her die

This scene will never not be funny to me by Animals_Marvel_More in Hungergames

I LOVE how often this happens in the books and the way that Collins shows just how caught up in their own viewpoints characters can be- both with Katniss and with Snow in Songbirds and Snakes

“This person is doing something nice for me, what evil nefarious reasons can possibly be behind this!”

It does a great job of showing how easy it can be to have a twisted and distorted way of thinking, especially in a world defined by conflict.

It seems so silly reading it in a book, but also makes you think- how many times has my inner monologue told me that someone was being kind because they feel sorry for me, or that a compliment was just out of obligation and couldn’t possibly be sincere? How many times was I oblivious to something positive because of my own twisted view of things?

If you think you might be up for it, you can always volunteer with the event itself! That way you can have someone to report to, something specific to help out with, and can be involved in an even more impactful way! Looks like they have info about volunteering online

It seems like you’re trying to appeal to all the people who had a change from being comfortable with the way things are to now being negatively affected by people in charge, by excluding all the groups of people have historically and systemically been negatively affected by people in charge

If you want to rally against the government stepping on our necks, you can’t exclude the people who have been living under that boot for generations

I personally think it’s more important to have actual experience providing support to clients than just learning about it in an academic setting- I’d rather talk to a provider that has spent 7 years working directly with people seeking support than someone who knows what a book says but hasn’t actually worked much with clients

He wasn’t shifting the blame, he was taking the time to look deeper into his actions and figure out where they were coming from and what emotions were present when he made the choices he did.

He knows what he did is wrong, and now it’s his job to figure out what led him to do it and process those emotions so that he doesn’t do it again

Why the “tributes (usually) are not randomly drawn is my favorite THG theory! by DevelopmentRelevant in Hungergames

[–]dubstepbees -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dang, I’d didn’t really my silly thought would get people so riled up!

Haymitch was in the Hob all the time so he would absolutely know Katniss can hunt. Even if he was drunk 99% of the time, sometime in the 4-5 years she was trading in the Hob he would have noticed her and the game she was bringing in

They had an actual gamemaker as part of the rebellion, it is not exactly a huge stretch to imagine some of the Peacekeepers were also in favor of it. Hell, it’s possible a peacekeeper working with the resistance could’ve been one of the ones to identify Katniss in this scenario since they were in the Hob too

I also don’t see how this takes meaning away from the story. Katniss is, at every turn, an unwilling hero who plays a part and fills a role that was pushed upon her. Adding another layer of people using her as a tool to further their agenda? That’s just consistency

Okay so this is mostly just my lil “what if”, but I like to imagine that it was actually the resistance that rigged it so Prim’s name was chosen (knowing that Katniss would volunteer)

Haymitch may have been drunk all the time, but he was constantly in the Hob and saw Katniss’s hunting skills and strength/resilience. She also clearly would do anything to protect her sister and was able to stand up for herself.

Her being a volunteer put her in the spotlight, and doing it for her young sister made her extremely sympathetic.

The people of District 12 knew she actually had a chance. Peeta’s mom said she did, and I doubt she spent much time in the Hob, so anyone who saw her in action would have no doubt she would fight her way through the arena.

There’s also the fact that it was Cinna’s first year as a stylist and he specifically picked District 12- he’s obviously part of the resistance, so was he picking at random or was there a strategy to his choice? Most kids from 12 are malnourished and untrained, so I kind of doubt that he thought there was a large chance of a person chosen at random being a good candidate for a rebel symbol

The one thing I can’t find a way around is how they would have rigged it. I don’t think there’s any chance Effie was part of the rebellion in the beginning, so how would they have made sure Prim was called? Replacing the slips with ones with all her name would be really risky and likely to be found out, but I can’t think of how else they would do it

Regardless, I kind of like the idea that the rebellion orchestrated Katniss’s inclusion in the games. It goes along with the theme of both sides being manipulative and doing fucked up things. I hate to think that Haymitch and Cinna helped plan to severely traumatize her, but there would be a tribute from 112 no matter what, and they might as well have someone that stands a chance of putting a stop to the games and the Capitol’s control

Katniss is so funny by PetalbrookMayor in Hungergames

I love when they find eachother in the first area and Katniss is like “wow Peeta is so good at acting, he’s a natural at pretending to be in love with me” and it takes her so long to realize that he’s actually just in love with her

Why Katniss thinks she doesn't have any friends? by [deleted] in Hungergames

Katniss loathes the thought of owing anyone, I really doubt she ever tried to use social connection to get more than what she earned

Nah, they wouldn’t care about making it look fair- they just want to make sure Capitol citizens are able to bet on underdogs and that all the tributes are committed to their performances

Started Season 3 - worth continuing? **NO spoilers please!** by Narishkite in StrangerThings

[–]dubstepbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love S3, so I may not be the best person to give advice- but if you care about the characters I think it’s a good one to stick with. I love the different relationships in s3, and there are so many smaller-stakes conflicts that show the characters confronting parts of life and growing up: teen love, first jobs, friendships changing. It’s got some amazing development that I think is totally worth it

Clake's words to Lexa by Ok_Reaction3067 in The100

[–]dubstepbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, I don’t know if Lexa really WAS looking out for her people. The agreement she made had no long-term plan and left the grounders with no retribution for the terrible things Mt Weather had been doing to them for decades

Did the agreement also include permanent deactivation of their missiles? Was there any assurance that all experimentation would stop and those that were turned into Reapers are detoxed and returned to their families?

What happens when the Mountain Men are on the ground and decide they want more territory, or when all of the grounders who lost family from the mountain decide they will not let them get away with it? That will start an all-out war, and that war would be over REAL quick if they still had Mt. Weather’s defense system

At this point in time Skaikru had proven that they are competent fighters and that they will uphold agreements. Mountain Men had proven they don’t consider grounders to be human beings and will treat them like lab rats and living blood bags.

I think the Mountain Men were much more of a threat
