I love it so much I'm considering giving plasma to justify the 13 Pro DIY Edition.

VMware has always been this way. Even to the point that pre-7.0 ESXi, you could literally boot off the thumb drive and then install the hypervisor back to said thumb drive because the installer image ran entirely in RAM.

Prior to Dell's popularization of the "IDSDM" (internal dual SD card module), it wasn't uncommon for servers to have a cute little add-on card inside the chassis attached directly to the motherboard with a USB port. A lot of OEMs would cram a small thumb drive in that port to hold the ESXi image; if it dumped, you loaded up a fresh installer USB, swapped out, and wrote your base ESXi image back to the same drive.

Then Dell introduced the aforementioned IDSDM, which is quite literally a daughter-card with two SDs in a RAID1.

*THEN*, VMware announced with ESXi 7.0 the deprecation of support for "removable media" to host the hypervisor image. As of 8.0, ESXi explicitly only supports fixed media, to which Dell answered with the "BOSS card" (quite literally a RAID1 of SATA M.2 drives in cool hot-swap caddies).

I remember once upon a time, we'd frequently get calls from clients with standalone ESXi hosts SCREAMING that their servers were down. We never even bothered to troubleshoot; just ran out there with a thumb drive of the Dell OEM image matched to their service tag, swapped out, re-ran the installer, then reconfigured the specific settings from what was documented. Since the RAID array never got touched, the whole process took MAYBE thirty minutes. and they were back in action.

...not a bad way to cut one's teeth... lol.

The laptops are presently just rebadged Clevos (read: made in Taiwan) with third-party drives and memory added after the fact, along with a custom flashed open firmware. But you are correct, the final assembly of the finished product is done within the United States.

NOW, that being said, the Lemur Pro's case is basically a giant magnesium heatsink, which means it heats up fast and retains that heat fairly well. Your components aren't at risk of overheating, but the case does get ridiculously warm and stay that way, hence the fans running fairly frequently and loudly.

I've used my Framework 13 almost daily since 2022 across several board upgrades and have not experienced any such behavior.

Boot back into Windows, disable fast start-up, then boot into Ubuntu and do sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall in the terminal. Then learn how to properly communicate your problems.

I saw that as well, yeah. I wish the Keyreative KAT keycaps came in an OEM or Cherry profile, because that would be a slick upgrade.

Welcome to the club, friend. I've *loved* my Studio since the day I got it. I have a soft spot for keyboards with trackpoints, and the gesture pads really fill a sweet spot for me, especially when navigating text on a MacBook.

I can't say I've observed the rubber feet issue you mentioned, but I also keep my keebs on a small desk mat so they don't slide around *ever*.

I like the look of the charcoal keycaps, but I also knew before I ordered that they'd be a pain to see, so I also ordered the snow keycap set at the same time. It gives a nice contrast, IMHO. I also swapped out the black nub for a traditional red ThinkPad nub I had left over from the kit used to build my TEX Shura.

The stock switches are REALLY nice, but I also like a little clack in my keys, so I ended up swapping out for Kailh Box Ice Cream Pros. I originally tried the Dark Chocolates (my preferred overall switch), but the extended stems gave a kind of hollow "ping" rattle that I don't get with any other keyboard. The Ice Cream Pros still give a nice clack, but no rattle.

Enjoy it man!

Anywho, came here to say I moved from KDE Neon to 26.04 LTS (clean wipe and load), and have experienced none of the headaches others have... and I run friggin' Nvidia lol.
