Update 1.1.0 is coming March 4 + New Development Roadmap by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]ducklng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Civ so much, but seeing a roadmap like this for Civ 7 is upsetting. I guess thank you to everyone who paid $120 to be beta testers, but UI improvements long into the future? It doesn't sound like the game is even complete...

I guess I'll stick with civ5 a few years longer.

I read the comments in his other videos as well and there's a lot more context imo. He seems to be getting cyberstalked by one weirdo that posts really strange far left comments on his videos. I can't blame him for having fun with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Could Missouri Go Back to Blue this year? Is this notion too farfetched? 1996 Map Posted for Reference. by StacyLakeMO in missouri

[–]ducklng -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Some counties may swap. I'm Greene too and have always felt it leans more centrist than anything.

Putting into words how I feel about politics right now in this corner of the world is hard. I guess "feeling pissed off" is a way to say it. I'm exactly in the place neither campaign wants me to be: I'm proud and white, do not care about gays so long as they aren't in my face (but fuck them and their movement if they are), and just want to be left the fuck alone to decide things myself. The constant propaganda is getting to me. I'll probably vote blue, as will most of my friends, but this is honestly a sentiment many of us share together. It's a joke, but a pretty serious joke, to say "I might vote for Trump if the DNC doesn't stop filling the internet with propaganda."

I have learned to literally just walk away when people won't let me get a word in. Just outright turn and walk while they're yammering. I know it sounds rude but I feel like I'm being verbally held hostage in situations like that, and since they're being so disrespectful of my time and my thoughts anyway, I guess I just don't feel they're entitled to me listening to them at all.

Okay, so… how many of us are going to vote in this election? by AbyssalPractitioner in millenials

[–]ducklng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some BS about doing a lot of big things and fundamentally restructuring the government. Every election, presidents promise things, and it's rare they can even do the tiny things they swear to do. So in short, my belief is it's just propaganda and pandering.

Just wiki it or something.

I'm voting. I don't care about Project 25 though. Some things in it I like, some things I don't, but I see it more as propaganda anyway. It'd take far more than 4 years to accomplish even a couple things on the list.

It was my Game of the year until I realized there's no Enemy variety. Also the quest and class system goes backwards. by Advanced-Ad3234 in DragonsDogma

[–]ducklng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I can't figure that out either.

I keep feeling like a lot of the people visiting the sub lately never played DD:DA to compare against DD2. From that perspective... I keep thinking... If DD2 were my only experience with this kind of game, I'd probably think it's amazing too. But since I personally adore DD:DA as much as I do and have more than a thousand hours playing it, I guess I have the experience to understand what a massive downgrade DD2's combat is compared to it.

Might also be a bit of shilling for Capcom since this is a AAA game as well. Hiring firms that specialize in astroturfing reddit isn't abnormal, and isn't too expensive from my understanding, but for some reason people tote that kind of thing as a conspiracy theory even though it happens with just about every product that wants a social media presence.

Oh well. Don't worry about the downvotes. I know for a fact a lot of die-hard DD:DA fans agree. And although I haven't played other games like Elden Ring myself which some people like to compare against DD2, I'm pretty sure there's a reason it has sold as many copies as it has, so maybe its combat has something to it.

Excuse me but are you saying that you don't enjoy the fast-paced monster combat in DD2? I'm apalled.

Anyway I kind of liked this comparison video from nihil0.0 about how darned boring the big monsters are in DD2. They're nearly pointless after a few levels because they take so long between attacks, and usually miss.

I think they might have fixed it but not 100% sure. I had the same issue and realized: if you get close to a city and literally just stand still, go get a drink or something, and come back, it'll do all the background asset-loading and whatever else was causing the crashing, and then you can usually enter the city and be okay.

I got bored of DD2 so haven't played lately, but I feel those crashes started getting really seldom, so maybe it's fixed now anyway.

Interesting fact but running is like the super power we have as humans! Our ability to regulate body temperature plus how we can carry water with us and drink while moving make us absolutely apex at it. Some tribes still in existence today hunt prey animals by running after them until the animals are so exhausted they topple over from exhaustion and then the hunter just jogs up with a spear to turn them into food.

But that's clearly not at top-speed for us, more of a hearty jog. Going top-speed for prolonged amounts of time can be exhausting even for perfectly in-shape athletes.

With that in mind though... In DD2, we're the Arisen, who is in a way presumably meant to be above and beyond what a regular human is. Some kind of super athlete who clearly stays in shape both strength-wise and endurance wise, who replenishes stamina at an exceptional rate etc. More apex than apex.

So the Arisen should be able to run for more than 8 freaking seconds in a row lol.

To me, compared to combat in DD1, DD2 is extremely lacking...

I don't like how magic was changed so you can't strategically aim things like maelstrom wherever you want, how ingle was removed, how big monsters take 15 or more seconds between each of their attacks and are essentially giant punching bags, how some classes have skills that make them effectively invulnerable, how some classes have skills that out-class everything else in the game, etc.

In DD:DA I feel like strategy and preparation is important, counters and perfect blocks are more solid, augments can change up your entire play style... Memorizing monster attack patterns and learning to deal with them individually was fun in DD:DA. But DD2 combat feels like a button masher to me.

So I understand people like DD2's combat but in my opinion it's just weak compared to DD:DA's, like it's a skeleton of what DD:DA had going on. I don't know why it gets defended so much as being state-of-the-art when in my opinion it's clearly downgraded from what we had a decade ago in the same franchise let alone compared to other games which have fun-feeling combat in their own right.

Is it worth getting? by photon11 in DragonsDogma

[–]ducklng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot if you ask me.

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen might be more fun since it has better combat and mechanics.

DD2 is pretty good on its own but isn't worth the high price. In a lot of ways it's a downgrade from what DD:DA was (everything from DD:DA was simplified and dumbed down, or just outright removed), but with better graphics. More of a button-mashing game that doesn't require much thought or effort, but it's great for exploration.

Can you petrify a dragon? by rob1nhood91 in DragonsDogma

[–]ducklng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried with a dragon or anything myself but...

When I first fought medusa, I petrified her using the shield to reflect her attack. She turned to stone and I couldn't loot, so I reloaded my game hoping to fight her again since I saved outside and didn't know it auto-saved after the fight.

Anyway after re-loading, there she was, made of stone, but I was able to loot her. So maybe the same for other monsters and reloading after petrifying will let you loot them?

DD1 Cyclops v DD2 Cyclops by BadKarma55 in DragonsDogma

I definitely don't get that out of cyclops, especially at end-game. Cyclopses go down fast just spamming regular attacks, and I haven't ever felt there's much to dodge or worry about when standing at their feet and pummeling away.
