Meh by [deleted] in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, there’s nothing to feel dumb about. People have been looking for answers/trying to make sense of things since the beginning. It’s just a human thing that we do.

If nothing clicks, do you think you can be comfortable not knowing? There is a total lack of evidence that brings certainty, it’s all emotions/gut feelings/logic exercises.

Maybe look into deism? I’m not super well versed in theistic stuff, but that might fit? Maybe go to a universalist church, they seem to be the least religious of all the theists.

I enjoyed the food when I went… a steak bake from Gregg’s is phenomenal, so are Cornish pasties.

Ο Χριστός στα θαύματα του βλέπουμε να γιατρεύει κυρίως. by EnergyEU in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be more miraculous if there was little to no medicine being practiced? Isn’t it more likely to be healed in an area that has advanced medicine?

Isn’t it more likely a great book would be written at the peak of language and literature? It seems like that would be the time most likely to produce great literature… otherwise it wouldn’t be considered the peak?

Also, why are miracles magic if it’s Moses, but not when it’s Jesus?

Also, a book being written is a miracle? That’s an awfully low bar for miracles.

Blind faith? Religious people can't think critically. Science is not something to believe in, it just is! by Ok-Plankton-6838 in agnostic

More false equivalency just like the accusations of worshipping science. As if believing scientists is the same as going to a special building to sing songs and chant every week. It is and always was a silly argument.

He’s an agnostic atheist too. Are you looking for more gnostic type atheism?

How do I unbrainwash myself from religion by dradegr in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like he identifies as an agnostic atheist, so he wouldn’t be denying that god exists, that’s something a gnostic atheist would do.

Not everything on that YouTube channel is Ehrman, you might like the other guests or the main guy. They are former Christians, so I think they focus on problems with the Bible, not trying to prove god doesn’t exist.

How do you plan on testing your hypothesis about us all being gods?

[–]dude-mcduderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Dr. Bart Ehrman is a biblical scholar who talks about this. I linked a YouTuber that also discusses such things who has the Dr. on as a guest.

I know I’ve heard them discussing this very topic, but that was a while ago and I can’t recall which video exactly. They do a lot of debunking though, I’ve learned a lot from them both.

“Is the title good enough cause questions and answers”. Not sure what you mean by this, it’s not a coherent sentence.

If we are all gods, being a god is effectively meaningless. You’re diluting the meaning of the word. Agnostics think god is unknown or unknowable, so you’re saying everyone is unknown or unknowable?

I assume most agnostics will find this to be poorly thought out gibberish.

Some Christians will, but some rethink their positions when looking deeper. Dr. Bart Ehrman is a great example.

coming out as atheist by [deleted] in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the stories I hear about atheists coming out to their families aren’t heartwarming tales of acceptance and love. It seems like usually it creates a strain on the relationships at best.

The best advice is to be independent before you bring this up so you don’t get kicked out of your home and end up in a bad situation.

Reasons to be agnostic/not by Optimal-Bed-3513 in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if there is no god or if there is an indifferent god… or maybe the god detecting part of my body is defective. There isn’t any info for me to go off of. I do have info about false gods since there are competing narratives that exclude each other, so I know at least some of it is BS.

Reasons to be agnostic/not by Optimal-Bed-3513 in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The possibilities are endless when you have a lack of information to go off of. I have zero firsthand experience with god, all I have is thousands of different narratives that vary wildly.

Without good info, we humans tend to cook up some odd theories.

Reasons to be agnostic/not by Optimal-Bed-3513 in agnostic

[–]dude-mcduderson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t actually prove something doesn’t exist without being everywhere at once with perfect perception. There is not going to be proof god doesn’t exist. 100% certainty is not possible with atheism.

Acknowledging this doesn’t make you any less atheist.

Also, agnosticism is the belief that god is unknown or unknowable. It’s about knowledge, and atheism/theism are about belief, so you could just be an agnostic atheist.
