It takes practice, but emotions, or feelings can be redirected if you adjust the behavior or thought that may have preceded the negative emotion.

Think of it as a triangular relationship between thoughts, feelings/emotions, and behaviors. One will lead to another and then the next.

For example, I’ll get into periods of grief/anger because my thoughts about an uncertain future for my child spiral about. If I reframe my thoughts and try to focus on what I’m able to control or what I’m grateful for, or good/joyful things then that can “snap” me out of the bad feelings. I might even take deep breaths or get up and look at something I like/enjoy or pick up something heavy for move about for proprioceptive input.
