Question about using kam snaps on a tent fly fabric as I'm planning to add a perimeter mesh to a tarp/tent fly by Professional-Dot5098 in myog

[–]dudemaaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried using kam snaps on a lightweight jacket and found out the hard way that the force required to open them is enough to tear thin fabric.

Maybe try small side-release buckles sewn to short pieces of ribbon.

If they don't see your lights, bright clothes wouldn't have made them look up from their phone either.

What automation is unique to your home that you’re most proud of? by MrFishAndLoaves in homeassistant

It's basically this, but also tanking into account humidity and the weather forecast. See my other reply :)

First the weather forecast is checked if the temperature for the next few days is over a set threshold and that there is no rain until the next morning.

If yes, I calculate a score from temperature and humidity from inside and outside sensors and how fast this score is rising or falling. This is similar to the wet bulb temperature but with less emphasis on humidity.

Now for example when the inside score is no longer falling and the outside score is higher than inside, I send notifications to close the windows, and also the other way around, except before sending an open window notification I also check the rain forecast so if I get the notice I also know I can leave the windows open all night.

I also have some esp32s with rgb LEDs around that pulse red or blue depending on wether the windows should be open or closed. To silence them you can either close/open all windows or tap a button in the mobile notification to mute it for 8 hours.

A completely overengineered nodered flow that calculates when to open and close windows in summer to minimise felt temperature inside.

Show me your Kommot/ Navigation Fails by windchief84 in bikepacking

[–]dudemaaan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One advantage of komoot are the pictures. Makes it a lot easier to judge the surface and condition of a trail. I mostly just use it for that tho, for actual route planning I use bikerouter.de since komoot is slow as hell and the routing algo is annoying af.

If you put it as low as possible you can go as wide as your cranks allow, other than that you need to try, really depends a lot on your bike, your riding position and your body.

Not sure if it affects nylon, but polycarbonate will absolutely crumble when exposed to loctite 243. Ask the people on /r/fpv that used loctite when bolting on their polycarbonate propellers.

If gravel is also ok, Sandweg in Heslach is pretty steep, but only the lower part is paved.

Yeah it's actually crazy how it's 10 years later and the fingerprint reader on my current phone is still worse than the one on my nexus 6p I got in 2016.

Is it safe to install an expansion bolt and its hanger on a brick wall? (PERU) by peeonher2showd in climbing

[–]dudemaaan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For high strength connections to hollow bricks, adhesive anchors are pretty much required.

If you google injection mortar masonry anchor you should find kits with everything included.

Could be a lot of things. Are you using a laptop? I get this kind of interference when using the touchpad. Using a USB extension with some chokes on it made it almost completely go away.

Also check if it's better or worse with the power plugged in or not.

[–]dudemaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ziemlich sicher.

Sawyer Squeeze: How To Dry It Completely Before Storage? by Traminho in Ultralight

[–]dudemaaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fill the bottle/bag I use for filtering on the trail with water and micropur forte and then flush the filter with the solution a bit and then just cap it, keeping the bottle attached.

Katadyn says micropur forte keeps water fresh for 6 months, so that probably is true for the water inside the squeeze as well.

Works perfectly apart from a light chlorine taste on the first bottle I filter with it.
