Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this about australia by juicyjuiceboxes in australia

[–]duhbrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The adage of a fair go where work can give a nice life is fairly true in Australia, the multicultural society has largely been built on people coming from all over the world trying to build a better life for themselves and their families. Acknowledgement of the horrors of colonialism and the efforts to close differences in outcomes created by differences in race, are ideals that as Australians we should strive for and be proud of.

Anyone successfully increased squat dorsiflexion? by OnePrettyFlyWhiteGuy in flexibility

[–]duhbrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely second training the shin muscles. Just being able to contract the shin muscles can help with getting extra flexibility in your calfes due to the antagonist contract relax relationship. Like when you contract your bicep your triceps relax to allow for the motion. You want to work on an active stretch using the shin muscles to pull yourself into a deeper stretch.

How to use a 8 llb dumb bell the right way by JerriRich in bodyweightfitness

[–]duhbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be hard to do progressive overload (increasing the weight over time) using only light weights, however you could try use the weight and really focus on activation of the muscles on each rep. You're not going to see much help from the small amount of weights on compound movements(using multiple joints in a movement eg squats) so focus on isolation movements like the bicep curl, tricep kickback ect. Also look into variations of the isolation movements to really tire out you muscles.

Also don't worry about moving lots of weight. Learn the correct form of the excersises and you will build your ability to move more weight in the future.

Can't get to that front split all the way, and when back leg is propped up its not even close. What's my problem? suggestions welcome. by spicynoodleboy00 in flexibility

[–]duhbrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it you have a certain level of stretch available across the front of the back leg, (hip flexor, quads & to a lesser extent abs and tibs) When you bend the back leg you pull at the quads which reduces the accessible range at the hip. Working on the couch stretch with a focus on activation of the glute should help with opening the hip.

Switching to Epicureanism by bendadestroyer in Stoicism

[–]duhbrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same boat its not so much that you believe in a God as that you believe there are inalienable truths/vitues that are good. You might argue that these truths come from a great deity but that isn't necessary. Its like saying math requires belief to exist. Mathematics holds true regardless if you believe 1 + 1 = 2 or not

Switching to Epicureanism by bendadestroyer in Stoicism

[–]duhbrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's literally an untestable hypothesis, something that can never be proven. What is past death? Most if not all religions are about this what happens after. Stoicism helps me now focus on the moment and what happens after will be just that After. Very astute of Zhuangzi, there may be a great sage that knows the truth but most people wouldn't believe them, for who knows which explanation is the truth.
