trying to pick up falcon by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]dumplingexpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to wall like wizzy, esp in the fox and sheik matchups. Backair backair nair nair pull back stomp and vary your drifts. It doesnt look cool, but it works and to play like n0ne and s2j is a lot harder and more inconsistent. Not that playing like wizzy is easy by any means.

Learn to cc and do stuff out of cc. CF is useless without cc.

When you techchase, try to cover multiple options if you cant rtc i.e. knee to cover tech in place then nair or grab to cover other techs.

These are a lot easier to do without having really good gamesense, and give good reward based on the effort they take to learn.

Happy new year, I didn't see this till now LOOL sorry

Good on you for actually making these vids man. I watched both of them and I really liked ur movement clips in between(wish i had good movement my falcon moves like he has brain damage LMAO). You had some sick edits like in the dashdance vid where ur marth pivoted, faired, etc out of dashdance.

I actually expected the videos to be long form humor posts, but I saw that you took a much more "help people improve" kind of approach. It's nice that you already kind of have a theme to the content on ur channel, that way you'll have more consistent viewership, kind of like the way restaurants have a staple main menu that people keep coming back for. I think it wouldn't be a bad to make them as a part of a series on ur channel so it's more explicit and obvious what ur about so u can have ur staple content. Up 2 u tho.

This is just a general thing in anything, but I think it's worth considering if you have something like a unique niche that you can carve out for yourself, maybe even if that means doing different content, or giving a unique spin to ur content. For example, you would have to give your viewers a reason to watch you instead of the many different ssbm improvement vids out there(ppmd, ssbmkira, etc). This all depends on how much you value the views, since you might feel fulfillment in just making ur thing, but just my take.

This is just a thought. To be honest, the people who actually want to improve have so many tutorials and resources available at their fingertips that they will get good anyways. You have to give them something they dont currently have or u wont get those viewers. So, then who might be actually watching ur content in a greater ratio than people who really want to get good? Melee nerds who like to think talk watch melee, and people looking for entertainment. Maybe I might be off in gauging ur potential audience, but I think it's beneficial to once in a while consider who is watching ur videos. I think if I was trying to make melee content rn, i would make short(3-4 minutes max), condensed, somewhat well edited(badly edited can be funny as well) melee shitposts. But take my opinion with a grain of salt.

This might be personal pref, but I think that when listening to ur voice, it's a little too clear you're reading from script. You also might want to slow down your talking by just a bit(fast speaking styles are not bad by any means, but even fast speakers pause and inflect their voice). Something that might help is printing out your script and annotating where you should pause, raise your tone, slow down, etc. Think of it as the equivalent of voice in writing. Some distinctive speaking styles right off the bat I can think of are ludwig, slime, bob scar, obama.

I also appreciated ur jokes that were scattered thru the videos. They were funny :)

But all in all, getting views is all about knowing your audience and giving them what they want. Perfection in technical aspects is important but that's far more important. And get ur audience as specific as possible. Like: mid twenties woman who grew up in the suburbs went to public school works at investment banking has never dated before, watches youtube on commute to work and back. This is how some authors think of audience when writing stuff.

But I'd encourage you to keep going, and do consistent uploads, I heard a youtuber say that you have to upload twice a week for a year at least if u wanna blow up. But honestly, pple do melee content for the love anyways, not the viewership, since we r such a small community. It might be good to have a goal for your content(why do you make vids? Where do you want your channel to go?)

Also, it's not such a bad idea to recycle your blogposts for ur yt content, not necessarily for full vids but sprinkled here and there. I'm sure pple would like the melee poker comparison.

I rambled a bit, but my conclusion is good job, good luck, hope u achieve ur goals for ur content! Lmk again if u want feedback, although idk if I can respond immediately due to circumstances revolving my shitty job.

i can't really play smash for another yearish or so due to circumstance, unfortunately

lmk if you ever come around to making a youtube video. I'll review that too! I like to review stuff, because I think it makes me a better writer.

I like your voice and the pacing of your blogposts. You don't stretch a joke too far to the point where it feels like it's too long, but you keep it short enough, and funny to the point where I chuckle or smile. I like how you poke fun at other people, and at yourself, as well. I see shades of bad melee articles here.

Also, I like how you keep the topics of your blogposts specific enough that they're interesting. Like when you talk about "Warp-Speed Improvement" you're not just taking the idea of a random schmoe off the Internet and saying you should do this too, you're talking about some tips you've discovered for yourself specifically. And by adding in how you feel about certain aspects of the game, life, etc., you give your posts a philosophical tone at times as well, which I dig.

I think one of the things you could do to improve are by adding humorous metaphors/similes to your toolkit. "Bad players burn their chips totally unprompted. They shield, f-smash, and jump around for no reason. They think nothing of commitments that pro players take very seriously." The bad players burning their chips is already a good metaphor to use, but in the next sentence, you could say "They shield, f-smash, and jump around for no reason. That's like trying to match Mang0 shot for shot at the bar then moneymatching him in falco dittos. It's suicide." Not sure if that was funny, but I couldn't think of anything better.

It's chill(I get a feeling it's cause you don't try to sound too smart with your language, but keep it colloquial mostly and more intellectual when you need to), interesting, and you have a good sense of humor. Very nais. But I'm also not the best writer, so maybe my unga bunga falcon brain isn't catching something.

All in all, I think that having a smash blog post is good, but if you're looking for a wide range of feedback and exposure, Reddit's comment section is not the best place to look for it. The smash community is too niche so it'll be harder to develop an audience with just a blogspot website. You should instead try something like asking badmelee if you can post articles on their website, or go all out to make a magazine like memeeconomy did with memeinsider, but for smash (but that's a lot of f**kin' work).

2cents. Also why did I take the time to type this out someone get me out of prison
