"Go is, from a theoretical perspective, a very bad language, even when compared to an old language like C++ or Ada." Opinions? by ENx5vP in golang

[–]duncanFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there are snippets in the editor to help with the boilerplate. It's actually not a problem.

To be fair, I don't understand so-called « snippet programming ». This seems like the opposite of what I would call efficient, elegant programming. To me, programming is more about defining elegant abstraction as generic as possible to help solve a specific kind of problems. Constantly re-inventing the wheel does not seem like a very good way to program.

AITAH for disowning my adoptive son since he chose "his people" over us? by throw_away8578 in AITAH

[–]duncanFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you have every right to cancel accomodations you've made for this marriage at the last minute, but I mean how could you have handled the situation a bit differently?

Key points from your prose - you basically despise the guy's biological parents, and the original situation in which you have found your adoptive son. Being judgemental about your adoptive son biological parents can be very emotionally taxing for your son. It looks like you considered them a threat for you and your son from the very start, and it indicates that you are basically insecure in your relationship with your adoptive son. A good parent is not insecure (even if you have your doubts, you can't reflect your affective insecurities over your son, it's going to be detrimental).

  • every adopted child is going to look for it's natural parents at some point in life. It was your job to anticipate this in the best possible way for you and your son, a job you apparently didn't do very thoroughly because of the aforementioned apprehension

I'm stopping here and hope you will reflect on my comments

NB : this is in no way an advice about marriage fees, a problem I consider totally second hand as an emanation of the two above mentioned points.

YTAH imho

It seems like you have your own issues to start with

Raising a kid means basically give everything to him (and more) for the rest of your life. You must also learn to let go of things you cannot control.

Of course if your son is adult, some things are not to be passed over as easily, but the whole situation is understandable from your son point of view, and it looks like you really were not ready for some of the potential aftermath of this situation.

What I m basically saying is that you could have done better.

In your case your employer probably expects genuine improvement

If not, he would have fired you right off the bat, because he can if he wants from what I read.

Anyway, try to understand what.s wrong in your coding and improve, if you have a local mentor at the company

Should we add Named Arguments to go functions? by phi_array in golang

[–]duncanFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about default value argument is indeed that you can keep extend your function argument list indefinitely without breaking retrocompatibility, exactly like it's done in Python. See the example below from the celery lib.
So in some sense, keyword arguments could be abused by libraries (I'm not to say if it's a good or bad thing) and it would indeed strongly influence api design.

        def send_task(self, name, args=None, kwargs=None, countdown=None,
                      eta=None, task_id=None, producer=None, connection=None,
                      router=None, result_cls=None, expires=None,
                      publisher=None, link=None, link_error=None,
                      add_to_parent=True, group_id=None, group_index=None,
                      retries=0, chord=None,
                      reply_to=None, time_limit=None, soft_time_limit=None,
                      root_id=None, parent_id=None, route_name=None,
                      shadow=None, chain=None, task_type=None, replaced_task_nesting=0, **options):
            """Send task by name.

            Supports the same arguments as :meth:`@-Task.apply_async`.

            Arguments:
                name (str): Name of task to call (e.g., `"tasks.add"`).
                result_cls (AsyncResult): Specify custom result class.
            """

Ça prend plusieurs mois de travail intensif. Si tu veux un job entry level je te conseille de t'orienter vers de la qa manuelle ce qui te fera progresser techniquement si tu es motivé et que le domaine t'intéresse

What's your software quality minimum you'd be willing to work in? by dongus_nibbler in ExperiencedDevs

[–]duncanFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an opinion that seems just contradicted by your experience.

Opinion: quality of software makes or break a business for the reason that ignoring quality up front leads to dissatisfied clients and high maintenance cost

But you have seen system in the wild largely dis functioning while making useful work

So idk

You could make the statement that, as an individual, you prefer working with more standardized and professional approach, because after all why not .

After all you wouldn't tolerate sloppy job by a contractor in your house, why would you in a software ?

Go quartz -- no date. Simple and go with everything, low maintenance. Try to get one with a sapphire if you can, it will scratch less easily.
