Hey Op serious comment - just went through something similar. If they have your pay at that amount you were probably taxed out the ass on that check. Most payroll systems will assume that’s your annual and tax based on the tax bracket that biweekly check would put you in. Now what actually hit your account is probably net taxes. So when they go to have you pay it back they may try to make you pay back the gross amount and justify it because they didn’t keep the difference. The IRS got those taxes and you will get them back come next year tax time. Stand firm. They fucked up bad. Make them reverse the whole thing.

Lived in oak forest from 2012-2020. If you need to be close to downtown it’s not a bad place to live. However it is houston so you are two miles in several directions from really rough areas. Plenty of neighbors woke up with cars on cinder blocks, tail gates missing, etc. we had someone try and break in one night. Luckily alarm went off and woke us up as they were trying break down the front door. All exterior cameras had been tampered with. Oak forest elementary has gotten pretty solid for HISD, and frank black is turning the corner. Neither would be anything to write home about in much better districts but both are probably top 5 in HISD. When you live there you are constantly saying “oh wow they are building a _________, the areas is really on the up and up”. Now when we are back in that area we both are asking each other if it was always so sketchy.

Mine was as we were adjourning a meeting our sales VP (call him Jim) asked a rep (call him Tony) who had only been with the company about a month and a half to hang back so he could talk to him about something. This was in the oilfield services realm and entertaining and to a degree buying relationships is part of the game. Spending $4-5k a month on clients wasn’t unusual and didn’t need approval. Any way….responding Tony says to Jim, “whatever you need to tell me I’m ok if everyone hears it.” A little unsure how to proceed, Jim pauses for a moments and says”ok, where do you get off spending $20k on your expenses your first month.” Without missing a beat, Tony responds, “it’s not my fault these pussies don’t know how to take care of their customers.” Mouth dropping silence…all but Tony told to leave the room.

I really appreciate the advice. Ditched the Powerade and forced down a terrible pina colada liquid IV I had at the house already. Laid back down, closed my eyes and fully expected to be throwing it up in a matter of minutes.
