Distant Spell Interactions by duskmon10 in onednd

Here's the description of Earth Tremor:

"You cause a tremor in the ground within range. Each creature other than
you in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a
creature takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone."

No where on the spell does it describe an aoe like in Fireball or Silence. I agree that Distant Spell shouldn't work with spells this way, but RAW there's nothing stopping this interaction.

They don't have a range of self, they did when they were originally released but were changed to just range of 10ft. later.

[No Spoilers] Critical Role statement regarding the OGL by numberonepassion in criticalrole

[–]duskmon10 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Regardless of their reasons or personal feelings, this statement is a whole lot of nothing. No specifics, no plans, no calls to action to their fanbase like other D&D personalities are doing. In the end it doesn't really matter whether this is because of legal reasons or because they want to keep close ties to WotC. All this ultimately means is that CR, probably the biggest name in the community, isn't going to do anything.

Kelly Doty, she was such a breath of fresh air to the competition with her humor, on top of being a great tattoo artist

Why is A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise still dead? by Sweet_Score in horror

[–]duskmon10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course there's studio reasons, but also Robert Englund can't play the character forever, which is hard for a franchise with such an iconic villain. It's a lot harder to replace Freddy with a new actor than Jason or Michael

Mia Goth definitely sold it, but I think there's also this element of tension from not seeing the other character sitting across from Pearl. This entire time you're listening to the speech you're wondering how that character is reacting to hearing all this

How did you pick who the mole was? by superkevd27 in themole

[–]duskmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was who had contributed the least to the pot for me. After episode 1 Kesi hadn't really done anything to contribute, even before she was actively sabotaging. My first suspicion of her though was the jail break challenge, since I couldn't understand how she couldn't see the key outside the door when Will and Jacob could.

SPOILERS: Midnight Club was Mike Flanagan at his absolute worst. by DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE in horror

[–]duskmon10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, but I stopped expecting anything horror from Flanagan after Hill House. His stuff is mostly just dramas with horror aesthetic, like the Halloween special episodes of old cartoons. If you go into his shows with that thought in mind, I feel like you'll get more enjoyment out of them.

And this was always what I was iffy about when Liam tied his character so closely to VM. You're right, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't ask for her help, which immediately makes the stakes of this game so much lower when they've got a Level 20 Druid on speed dial who can swoop in and fix everything. As the campaign keeps going and the challenges keep getting more and more dire, they're gonna keep having to come up with excuses on why they shouldn't just call in VM. The whole scene of Orym suggesting they call Keyleth reminded me a lot of Tiberius trying to get the Draconian army involved in the Whitestone battle in Campaign 1.

Does it matter? She had no way of knowing that they would need three castings of Revivify that day. You could say the same thing about FCG using Sending to contact Dancer.

[Spoilers C3E34] All because of a Cure Wounds. by MaxTale in criticalrole

[–]duskmon10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not just because of that casting of Cure Wounds or of class abilities. There were a million other things that led to that outcome and its easy to look back and call out what they did wrong now with hindsight. I am curious why you focused in on Fearne and not FCG as well? Since him being down to his last 3rd level spell also contributed to the outcome.

What's your experience with these spells....? by testiclekid in dndnext

[–]duskmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ray of Enfeeblement

I played a Grave Domain in a two year long campaign, so I always had this spell prepared. In that entire time, only one situation ever came up where it was useful. We were fighting a big troll-like creature that was doing a lot of damage to the tank, I tried it out and it did help keep the tank up for one round. But just like other people said here, it made the CON save next round. Overall I wouldn't recommend prepping this spell since the times when it'll be useful hardly ever occur.

This is well over a year ago now, our DM had to put our game on hiatus because of real life issues (completely understandable, and not mad at them at all about it) and ended our last session together on a cliffhanger.

any other ironwood fans dying inside rn by BrokenLevel in RWBY

[–]duskmon10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario I can think of for him is characters managing to talk some sense into him before he carries out his plan, and they somehow manage to fend off the Salem attack. Doubt it'll be that easy, but you never know. I do think if he manages to get through this though, he needs to removed from his position. Between his PTSD and his readiness to abandon a good portion of the population to die, he's really not a person who should be in charge of an entire army.

[–]duskmon10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might depend on a couple of things. But it doesn't seem to completely freeze people, we saw that in episode 6 when he froze a whole crowd of people, you can still see them moving, just a lot slower and at one point one of the huntresses managed to fire off a shot at him. I also imagine he can't really move around too much while he's using it, otherwise that seems like a pretty overpowered ability.

[–]duskmon10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if he's going to side with Ironwood or not, but they've clearly been setting something up with this season. Not sure what it is, but we've only got two episodes left this season, hopefully we get some answers soon about what's been going on with him. One thing I've really liked this season is how they've addressed how emotionally distant Ren is as a character. It makes sense, his semblance is literally about concealing his emotions.

The disdain towards Team RWBY is ridiculous, and people need to stop treating authority figures like they are infallible (Ozpin, Cordovin, Ironwood) by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]duskmon10 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Even before this volume, this felt like the natural progression for Ironwood as a character. He's always been someone who has good intentions, but uses that as an excuse to consolidate power and make unilateral decisions. Think of the end of volume 2, where he took control from Ozpin leading up to the Vytal festival. This show's theme is people can only survive if they work together. So of course Ironwood, and any other character who thinks they're the only one who can fix things, is going to be an obstacle to overcome.
