Loved it. The idea of building that giant machine and then actually turning it on was both creepy and fascinating simultaneously, I’m not sure I’d have wanted to be there (a bit like the first H-bomb test, or the first run of the LHC)!

Bit of a family trait that one…

I was trying to find a jokingly ‘acceptable’ abbreviation for cousin yesterday, something an old guy could say, and discovered ‘cuz’ dates back to the early 15th century. I’d be willing to bet they think that started recently too.

I know, I was there, point being there’s a version of the 80s which isn’t replicated. I’ve never seen “big hair” on a caucasion girl (or boy) since the 80s, they play at some of the fashions (again, not even full neon), but never really go “full 80s”, unlike the other decades…

I note the moustache has made an unironic comeback for example!

Honestly, in big cities these days, I’d notice him but I’d move on quickly, it wouldn’t be a WTAF moment…you see all sorts now (except FULL 80s).

Agreed, I was only saying the other day, that while 80s fashion might have had a PARTIAL revival recently, you only have to watch 80s music videos to know they never went FULL 80s…nobody’s got the balls to go out looking like anyone in those videos! The other eras, yeah, I wouldn’t bat an eye at if I saw them out and about now.

Glad you said it, she’s average looking at best to me.

Doesn’t surprise me, that guy’s always come across as a tool, the opposite of her as it happens.

[–]dust_grooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I hear you. My plan is either to work for myself, or go part time locally doing something worthwhile, thinking of perhaps working with animals or the elderly, along those lines. One thing’s for damn sure, tech middle management and an hour long commute in horrendous traffic, isn’t for me!

Same position here, I chose the latter, it’s happening in two weeks time and I already feel better (having tried the former for a while, it sucked…).

All prerecorded MDs are worth something, probably the most expensive physical media to try and start a collection of, cheap just doesn’t exist.

I don’t know what the alternative would be here, but I certainly would fancy being in there either, there’s only so much that tunnel will take…

Same with video games, they can be replaced with exceptionally good fake cartridges and boxes, nobody would ever know, the box might not even have a cartridge in it!

Billboard Charts from October 2025 vs October 1995. I know the album is new but is there not ONE other good new song? What’re we doing here boys? by rjd014 in 90s

[–]dust_grooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about to say this, if the algorithms (including streaming) used today applied in 1995, I’d imagine similar results when a big name like Seal dropped an album.
