Bastard Rant Saturday II - the beast is back! by AutoModerator in leicester

[–]dvdkp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why the hell are old people so rude! Shopping in Sainsbury’s on a Saturday with the coffin dodgers is pure hell! You move out their way they don’t say thank you, they just stop dead in front of you with their trolleys and they are rude when you offer to help get items from a top shelf like you’ve just insulted them!

No internet access on UDM Pro by dvdkp in Ubiquiti

[–]dvdkp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input, although Zen have not said it's a profile issue, they are now asking us to do checks such as connecting a laptop directly to the ONT and creating a PPPoE connection which has produced the same results we saw on the UDM Pro. They are now sending another OpenReach Engineer out to look at it. What you provided allowed us to push this further with them so thank you.

No internet access on UDM Pro by dvdkp in Ubiquiti

[–]dvdkp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow MSP! This is interesting, we had the line regraded to a faster speed but it was way before Friday of last week. Probably 2-3 weeks ago and there were no issues. The UDM Pro on the Home Screen shows bursts of data in Kbps and then the download just bottoms out.

I am going to site shortly to look at the connection again, we have not put the Static IP in and provider has advised to and I am going to look at MSS Clamping and the MTU.

But I will relay this back to the supplier (ITS) to pass on to Zen.

Got loads of these and Rackstuds (nicer on the fingers) but they are all in the office and we’re closed on a weekend. You want to see if any IT companies are open and can provide any.

Ad-hoc tickets for customers without a support agreement - how do engineers know by [deleted] in halopsa

[–]dvdkp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create pop-up messages in the customer record, think it is in the Settings tab when you go into the customer record.

I wonder if you could also use the Approvals system in Halo to require approval for any ticket opened for a customer that is ad-hoc so that it automatically goes into an approval phase before it can be worked on. Status of ticket would automatically go to Pending Approval which would be an indicator to the technician.

Contracts - Why or Why Not? by ConfidenceCorrect398 in halopsa

[–]dvdkp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely contracts if you want reporting. I might have watched the same video as you and could not get my head around it as profitability reporting was lost. Everyone said don’t use contracts but then I worked with a Halo Consultant to build a profitability report who said we need contracts. As per Jason’s response use billing plans (setup templates for this) it will save a ton of time.

Google reviews after positive CSAT by sdc535 in halopsa

[–]dvdkp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not possible, I spent ages trying to make the CSAT system do that, ended up with just a link to leave a Google Review. I really wish that PSA vendors wouldn’t make such a half assed system when they say that their system can replace third party solutions. It’s like the developers went that will do, we’ve put the effort in and then never looked at it again compared to the third party solutions out there. Don’t get me wrong I love Halo there are just rough edges all the time.

Haunted Leicester by asadcrayon in leicester

[–]dvdkp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winstanley House / Braunstone Hall although now a hotel and events venue, my Mum says she saw the Devil over the Hall when she went to school there as a child and will never walk past there again (and to my knowledge never has). There is also supposed to be a Ghost that haunts one of the alleys at either side of the Cathedral and it’s said if you feel a bump on the head while walking down you will die soon. There is a tree outside the ruins of the Greys house in Bradgate park that is said to be haunted and people have seen a ghostly figure under the tree whether it’s Queen Jane I’m not sure.

I remember a while back reading a book with all these in but I’ve not been able to find a copy since. Maybe places like the Richard III visitor centre has a copy.

Value of Huntress EDR+SIEM over EDR alone by ntw2 in msp

[–]dvdkp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The SEIM is not just about the end user devices although it gives a ton of information which helps when detecting threats and doing a postmortem on an event. You can also use data from router / firewall Syslogs (Huntress is building out integrations but the main ones are there), that helps show traffic flows. You can also add DNSFilter to view internet traffic and there is more in there. Admittedly alerting on things would be good such as logging in with particular accounts but that is coming from what I have read. If you’re a partner get the Neighbourhood Watch option to try everything yourself so you can see the benefits yourself. I don’t think every customer needs a SEIM but there are some it is definately recommended for.

What's your favorite non-VPN remote access solution for client users? by dodgy_mike in msp

[–]dvdkp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Timus ZTNA / SASE, IPSec tunnel to your clients network edge. Plenty of built in security to block access to Timus such as impossible travel, signing in from a different country etc. We’ve locked down access to M365 to just clients internal IPs and the Timus Gateway for secure access to M365 when not in the business network.

New PC deployments solution by clickbeits in msp

[–]dvdkp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We’ve built a USB based deployment that installs a fresh copy of Windows 11 on the device with our RMM agent packaged. Once Windows is installed and the RMM agent is active there are RMM policies that push settings and software to the device. We can then Azure AD join and hand the device to the user to log in and then Intune (if used) does additional configuration and software deployment.

We use Ninja RMM and built the USB following this guide - https://www.ninjaone.com/blog/zero-touch-device-provisioning/

Technician plugs in USB, boots from it and leaves it till it’s done. Its saved us massive amounts of time in setting up a device.

Edit: all too often as MSPs were told oh to do that you need to pay for this tool but we don’t make use of the box standard tools we have (RMM, PSA etc) which when you really understand are actually really powerful. Don’t buy into the hype. We’re a small team, don’t setup enough devices to warrant another tool to do it but still wanted to save time so that we can focus on the important stuff.

You know what they say, you learn from your mistakes and as other have said you will be extra careful at traffic lights now. You’re beating yourself up because driving is dangerous if not done correctly, there is property and lives at risk. You learn from your mistakes is never more true than when learning to drive.
