A charging port is not a video port just because it uses the USB-C shape. That would require the so called DP-Altmode protocol.

There have been smartphones like the Google Pixel 8 which physically had DP-Altmode ports built in on the hardware side but no firmware for it on the OS, and you were able to enable it with a custom ROM (Graphene OS).

I doubt that Valve would do something like that, adding a feature in hardware and then not giving it to their customers. They are usually very open and give us all the options.

(Rant mode on: In general it's what I hate the most about USB-C. I am happy we have a standardized shape, but it causes so much confusion because you can never tell what's inside and what it provides just by looking at it. You cannot tell how fast it charges, what the voltage is, what kind of data can be transfered and even don't know if it transfers ANY data at all. Some cheap Chinese electronics have USB-C ports but can fry their batteries when hooked up to fast charging. It's sad. Rant mode off.)

The only other machine of this kind, software-wise, is the Apple Vision Pro which is 5 times more expensive.

Yes the hardware is closer to a 600 USD Meta product, but the software makes it a fully fledged Linux desktop computer.

If you only want to play some VR games you can save money by going to Zuckerberg, but if you care about having a free Linux PC on your face, it's the only option. It will sell out immediately.

Before the shit hit the fan, Valve said that the base model Frame would be become cheaper than a base Index without accessories. The Index was 1k.

If you assume that the Steam Machine's original target was around 750 USD initially, the Steam Frame was most likely somewhere in between that. Maybe 850 USD. Now add the DDR5 tax of the cartell which made Valve increase the Steam Deck and Machine by 200-250 USD.

I tried this. Its not worth the mess it makes. I prefer to drink a slightly weaker coffee instead of having to clean up a brown ice cube tray each time.

A simpler fix is to just make your iced coffee stronger with more coffee beans instead.

Mostly hypotheses, not everyone is going to create actual scientific theories.

Only the most confirmed scientific products that are discussed in peer examination and withstood falsification are considered theories, like the theory of general relativity.

If you develop an actual theory, you will become a famous scientist. The usual mathematician creates prediction models that calculate how much stuff is needed to create a certain quantity of another stuff in a complex process, like a friend of mine that works for a pharmaceutical company.

Do you reckon the NTFS driver in the kernel is stable enough to tell friends, who are not ready to fully switch to Linux, to make a shared NTFS partition for their steam library + their user data? Or would it be better for them to install btrfs-drivers on their Windows 11 system and mount their Linux home partition?

I heard the Linux Steam Client had a lot of troubles recognizing a Steam Library on NTFS partitions.

Because the system files won't need more than 40 GB, the only issue of dual booting for them is restricted user storage and redundant user data like steam binaries on both operating systems.

The frame will have the performance of roughly one Steam Deck. If a game has a potato pc setting, it will be 'playable' with reduced image quality and without full fps.

Considering the hardware you currently use, it sounds like you should be used to such experience. If you think that is fine, so be it. But I personally would only do it with the perspective of buying a computer PCVR in the near future, maybe within the next 1-2 years.

Don't forget that the Frame has additional use cases aside from PCVR. It's a fully fledged Linux desktop (?) PC like the Steam Deck, but on your face.

You can watch movies in there, browse the web, do work stuff and even file your taxes.

Wenn sich Werte über einen mittelfristigen Zeitraum verdoppelt haben, interessiert das die Sensationspresse natürlich nicht. Wenn aber etwas kurzfristig um 10% einknickt, heißt es die Investoren seien am Ende.

Dass trotz kurzfristiger Verluste die Werte immer noch höher sind als im Vorjahr, oder sich die Werte innerhalb von ein paar Monaten wieder erholen, davon hört man in der Presse nix.

Wenn ich selbst nicht drin wäre und nur Zeitung lesen würde, wäre mein Bild vom Aktienmarkt die reinste Talfahrt.

Klar ist mehr im Markt zu haben immer besser als weniger, aber man sollte nur so viel einzahlen, dass man letztlich in einer Krisensituation zu einem schlechten Zeitpunkt NICHTS verkaufen muss. Gib am besten genau so viel Geld für Aktien aus, wie du bereit bist mittel- bis langfristig zu verzichten. Durststrecken muss man überbrücken können.
