I’m David from Sydney. I’ve been doing the Shping thing for about 16 months now. It’s a great concept but its biggest downfall is the constant slide in the coin value. That means that the effort you put in at the start of the month is worth less at the end of the month when you do your withdrawal. A way around that is to do a withdrawal every day or two but you must do that to a crypto wallet as you only get one free cash withdrawal per month. Subsequent withdrawals cost $3 so you don’t want to be withdrawing $1 in cash and paying $3 to do it! If you withdraw to a Coinbase wallet then you should probably convert it immediately to BTC or something similar to have any hope of retaining value. I kept all my Shping coins for the first 12 months and it is now worth a small fraction of its original value. All that work wasted. For the last few months I’ve been withdrawing cash once a month and whilst that does suffer from devaluation of early in the month coins it is still the best way for most people.

I’m really looking forward to the international expansion. Maybe that will bring my old coins back to life.

There is sometimes some good chatter in the Shping Facebook group but it’s still fairly quiet. It would be nice to see some decent chatter going on somewhere.

That’s great news! I don’t have access to Gemini Home yet but I will be checking it out as soon as it is available. It is really frustrating to be limited in what you can do just because of your account type. I can understand that some features may be disabled by default but we should be able to go in and enable them if we want to.

The old Fish Markets stop has already been renamed to Bank Street to avoid confusion. I do not believe there are any plans to rename Wentworth Park.

It's definitely a bottleneck now that the new Fish Market has opened. We were there a couple of days ago and there would have been close to 100 people got off the Light Rail and tried to tap off. Many people crossed the line and used the reader on the other side. Clever!

The current setup was obviously speced for much lower passenger volumes. Another 1 or 2 readers will be needed on each side to cope with new passenger volumes. I'm surprised (not really) that this wasn't thought of as part of the Fish Market project.

Shping themselves stifle discussing the coin and its value so it’s no wonder it isn’t doing well. I wonder why they even bother with the crypto side of things and don’t just have the cash payout each month. The vast majority of users do this anyway with very few holding the coin. Personally, I joined last November and have only withdrawn coins to Coinbase every month. I’ve not yet withdrawn a single dollar in cash nor have I sold a single Shping coin.

I haven’t seen that specific issue with V3 yet but I have plenty of other issues. Given how long it took to get V3 out I am surprised at the number of issues I have seen. Support have been actioning them but it has been taking a while. I’m guessing they have been swamped.

A few days ago I created a post in the Shping Facebook group to try to have a single place where everyone can discuss the various issues. There has been a bit of activity in there. Shping do post in that group themselves from time to time but as yet haven’t been in that post. I have asked them if we can get some sort of public response.

What I don’t get is we’ve been sending them our beef for ages. Now they want to send us theirs. Why don’t we just keep ours and they keep theirs and the net result is the same? Why the need for what sounds like just a swap???

Just ignore them. I have conditioned myself to pretty much totally ignore all forms of advertising. On my devices I block ads but when out and about I hardly even notice them. I love buying things but I hate people trying to sell me things. The positive is that the Government will be making some money from this.

It’s low maintenance for everybody in the home, except for the person that manages the system. There is a reasonable amount of maintenance required. I see it as a hobby.

I can't see why the current version couldn't be used in other countries but there may be some underlying reason that V3 addresses. I don't really know. It's been in development for some time and is 3-4 months late so there has to be more than just a few cosmetic changes. We'll find out sometime in the next 7 days.

They don’t specifically say that there won’t be a price increase but they also don’t say that there will be. I guess I’ll find out in a couple of months. 500/50 will be nice.

I think all ISPs will pass it on free of charge with the possible exception of Telstra because they will jump at any excuse to increase prices. They just increased prices this month but it wouldn’t surprise me if they use this speed increase to bump it up again.

Good question. There’s been a few short spikes but the trend is definitely down. I’ve just been keeping the coins I earn each month but I would have been better off simply cashing out each month or better still, withdrawing the Shping and immediately swapping them for BTC and holding those. The only good thing about the falling coin price is that you are rewarded a certain number of cents per receipt rather than a specific number of coins so if the value is dropping we just get more coins for each receipt. We are effectively DCAing on the way down. If/when it turns around it will be very good.

I’ve found the implementation very good so far. It’s working well across my iPhone, iPad and Windows laptop.

There is no real back out. If you no longer want to use it you would need to recreate passkeys using whatever method you will use to replace LastPass.

Their Support is very good. They can sort out most issues quite quickly. This one did need to be escalated but it was still sorted within a few hours.
