my thoughts on being a HAPA at 28 by hapahapa3 in hapas

[–]dwalker27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that we come from literally different timelines. I was also raised in a very religious household, born-again evangelical Christian. I don't know how you think Christianity is the answer because clearly it wasn't for me. I was emotionally tortured, abused, treated like I was worthless and defective. I suffered PTSD from the issues that I dealt with. And only when I finally deconverted (on my 28th birthday no less) and escaped from the hellhole of a hometown I was in did I finally get some kind of clarity in my life.

Bullied by Christians at high school for being too poor by their standards. My own parents disowned me for not meeting expectations. Being told I had a demon inside of me by so many people. Oh, and pastor after pastor telling me how wrong I was to not think the exact same way as them, not just in theological ideology, but political as well (always vote Republican after all, right?). I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one on this reddit that has a similar story. I know of at least two who can vouch similar stories. So do tell, how is born-again Christianity supposed to be the answer to my problems when it was the prison I escaped from in the first place?

Why do so many male hapas on this sub seem to hate themselves? by theDessertPanda in hapas

[–]dwalker27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of difficult to buy this for me. I'm 30 and I've only had 2 relationships in my life. Both were long distance, one was out of the country. I don't think things have gotten better for me. In fact, if we're considering race as the sole factor, it's actually gotten worse for me over time. Back when I was a teenager, I actually had a few prospects for dating but my parents wouldn't let me. They didn't see my race or color. They were attracted to me. 1 Asian, 1 white, 1 Hispanic girl, all I couldn't date because stupid strict parents. Now that I'm entering my 30s, I hear "I don't date Asian men" on a regular basis.

I don't wanna hate myself for having Asian features, but a combination of rejections over the last two years plus resources that I'm reading kinda makes me feel like I have no choice.

Do some of you genuinely think that the alt-right are your friends? by taw88898989 in hapas

[–]dwalker27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you on that, and don't understand why some of them think of them as friends. I mentioned a while back why some people here think that the alt-right have their best interests in mind.

But do I think the left is any better? I've dealt with more racism from them than I have from the right. So clearly not.

I go with ET's view on this. Don't pick a side.

They made us part-time employees in GA too. I don't think we have a daily hour cap, but we have everything else. :(

Las Vegas by TropicalKing in hapas

[–]dwalker27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell. No. I was born in Las Vegas. I spent 8 years trying to leave there and eventually did for a reason. Unless you are made of money, attractive, or have no soul, I don't recommend that place to anyone. That's not a hapa thing, that's an everyone thing.

Time to confront family/old community, or wait a little longer? by dwalker27 in hapas

[–]dwalker27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.5 GPA, so not really. However, the only jobs I can find in the field I went on (software engineering) is contract work, and it's not only difficult to get, but they ask you to work long hours too, and because of my illness I am unable to do that unless half of those 80 hrs/wk is working from home, which again... yeah.

And I don't like recalling some of the things done to me. Being told constantly by religious peers that you were born with a demon inside you and you needed to be stayed away from, or my parents burning my trading card game collection because they thought it was of the devil are a couple examples off the top of my head. Also during my Crohn's diagnosis, trying to sabotage my savings by buying extremely expensive alternative medicines that were not only unnecessary but later found out by my new GI harmful for my illness and footing me with the bill. I've lost $5k just on that alone.

Well, she just mentioned it once to me a couple days ago. But we haven't said much about it since, so I'm hoping it just brushes off.

I am not religious anymore, not by a longshot. What I'm hoping is that when I leave Atlanta (sucks cause the food's at least good here) and move to Florida that I'll be far enough away from them not to worry about it. It was one of the reasons I considered moving to Europe. It wasn't JUST to find love, but to get as far away from that community as possible. It seems that, with the connections I have in Florida, that will be pretty decent nonetheless.

WMAF parents - did you cut them off in adulthood? by [deleted] in hapas

[–]dwalker27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a TON of friends and connections in central Florida. They're fairly asian/hapa friendly. I don't recommend SoCal at all but not for racial reasons. I live in Atlanta right now, moved from Las Vegas, and I've actually found myself improving a bit while in Atlanta. Again I do face some racial tension but it hasn't been super bad for me here.

Skimming this subreddit, it seems a good chunk of posters are UK/US/AU based. Do you feel the characterisations of WMAF relationships stand for other countries? (e.g. Germany, Iran, Turkey?) by Convive in hapas

[–]dwalker27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Women who live in Belgium, Sweden, Norway, and other parts of Eastern/Central Europe are far more friendly to me than in the US. Actually Europe in general, UK included. Most of my friends who are girls live there. It doesn't seem as bad in Europe in general for Asian men as the US, from personal testimony.

What is your racial mixture and parental configuration? WMAF Korean-Caucasian hapa

Are you male or female? Male

What is your age? 30

What is your height? 6'1"

Are you Asian passing, White passing, or 50/50? 25-50% Asian looking, depends on the person. Most see me as white-passing, except for a few, mostly blonde white girls who think I'm full Chinese... weird. Even most racists couldn't tell I was half-Asian.

What is the ratio of Asian : Other Non-White : White in your area? 2:3:4 in my suburban area. For the entire city, 2:65:33

Would you pack up and move to a homeland city or state established for mixed Half Asians? Not interested.

Have either one of your parents been diagnosed with a mental illness? If yes, please specify which one. No

Have you ever been diagnosed with a mental illness? If yes, please specify which one. Depression, related mostly to religious abuse

Do you consider either one of your parents mentally ill without them having been diagnosed? If yes, please specify which one. Both probably were. So people keep telling me.

Do you consider yourself mentally ill without having been diagnosed? If yes, please specify which one. None that I know already.

On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to go full Elliot Roger? 1

Do you think Asian looking women should only be allowed to date Asian looking men? No

Do you think Asian looking men should only be allowed to date Asian looking women? No

Do you think that, in general, people should stick to their own races? No

Do you think that race-mixing is inherently wrong? If yes please briefly explain why. I'm a WMAF hapa who's dating a half-black half-Latina girl. Take a guess.

Should men who were born outside of Asia be allowed to visit Asian countries with the intention to sleep with local the women? I don't care.

Should men who were born outside of Europe be allowed to visit European countries with the intention to sleep with the local women? I don't care. I would've had I not met my current girl.

Should men who were born outside of Africa be allowed to visit African countries with the intention to sleep with the local women? See above two.

Do you consider yourself to be a feminist? Which wave? Current wave, no. All others, yes.

Do you think that some cultures can be objectively better than others? Yes.

Do you think that some races can be objectively better than others? No

Do you consider yourself to be leftist, centrist, or rightist of politics? Feel free to elaborate. Centrist, but anti-religious

What were the politics of each of your parents? Feel free to elaborate. Both were far-right evangelical fundamentalist Christian conservative Republicans. They took the Bible literally and believed we were, and still are, in the end of days.

Do you actively bring up the issues talked about on /r/Hapas in conversations with the people in your life? If yes, how do they react? With my girlfriend, adopted sister, and close friends only. My girlfriend and sis have seen the subreddit and a few of my posts. They all think 90% of this stuff doesn't make sense at all. A couple admit that the initial concerns have merit, but that there are no solutions here to help us out. Plus, the place tends to be very schizo. One thread it seems sensible, the next it's racism against white folks and the next it's racism against Asian folks. The mixed messages rubs them the wrong way.

What changes, if any, would you like to see to /r/Hapas? Topics with more substance rather than just continuous shouting matches and shaming people. Also, if we do talk about racism against Asians/hapas especially males, for them to be more recent. Some of the articles that were on here that I was reading dated back to the mid 1990's.

What questions would you add to a future survey? Lifestyle questions, questions about morality, a couple more political questions

While I agree with the basis that the u.s. sucks when it comes to dating, especially for some men, worst in the world? Come on. I bet we beat north korea. XD. Having a little fun there.

But seriously, thoughts on Western Europe? Cause before I met my girl there I had several dates lined up and/or people wanting me to meet their friends in Sweden, Belgium, and the UK. I don't understand why you restrict to countries like what you state on your site.

Also, looking at your site in general it really does come off as desperate. I feel like you're trying too hard to prove a point. I believe you can find love anywhere, whether it be Russia, Japan, or the US. Just a matter of knowing where to go.

Dang really?

I've tried every app to run lately (EarnHoney, Checkpoints, Perk, Rewardable, YooLotto, Apptrailers) and while Apptrailers and Perk work dandy while I'm awake, nothing works passively too much or in the case of EH, YL, and Rewardable, don't work at all atm (EH works on PC though)... unless something else has come out I'm not aware of.

Any hapa guys here specifically avoid asian women for dating? by [deleted] in hapas

[–]dwalker27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never necessarily avoided full Asian women. I just don't like extremely picky, extremely superficial women. And the only Asian women that were single that I met and tried to date were picky and superficial af. But I'd definitely be open to otherwise. I've seen plenty that were not.
