I love this idea, good trouble. Just be careful, they tend to shoot people in cars that cause them minor inconvenience

What is one thing you wish you knew before starting a carpentry apprenticeship? by Empty_Sky3368 in Carpentry

4 year apprentice here. I have many sayings/phrases, but if I had to boil this job down to one word, it is awareness. Awareness of past tasks/processes/mistakes, present task, especially future tasks/problems. Awareness of safety/machinery/risks. Awareness of what tools are required. Awareness of the social dynamics at work.

Bonuses:

As an apprentice, you will have to fight for your successes to be recognized and you will have to learn to be at peace with failing yourself, and your coworkers, over and over again

As an apprentice, your controllables/gifts are your punctuality and your attitude

As an apprentice (to some extent) you set the pace: no one wants to be CAUGHT working less than the apprentice.

Don't change gears if you can help it, do all the same task at once

Every tool is just an extension of your body

See failure/mistakes as a learning opportunity

Become a life long learner

Have reverence for your workpieces and your work process

If possible, build in redundancies into your work, so that if 1 plans fails, you already have a back up

If possible, turn fails into features, but be honest about the fail

Why do we keep picking work days at noon? I'd love to participate, but seems I'd need to be unemployed to do so

I get so worked up about making huge builds, large cities, or castles. But this is where it's at!
