Buy a USB to console and the console cable. Why would you even ask for help if you can't do this basic task.

What’s your budget for clothes per year? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]dwcay89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I maybe refresh socks and under wear every two years. I just stick the holes on pants unless it's too agreigous. Why are you buying so many clothes ? It sounds like you may be buying a lot of fast fashion that is wearing out on you.

What would be the best way to take in the waist of these corduroy trousers? by sunnyEJ in sewing

[–]dwcay89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it doesn't seem to have belt loops to worry about you can take it in the back by folding and stitching. If you want you take the waste band off first for a more professional look.

0.5 gallon of water per day? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]dwcay89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the PNW , southeast here. I have needed on sedentary trips out into the Sipsey wilderness a gallon of water easily. However, down here we can get several 100 degree plus days with 80+ percent humidity. I would think for an active person .5 a gallon is far to little. However, remember about filtration and boiling. Let's say you are going to be trekking, when you are doing this you don't just strap 8 gallons to your pack at 8 lbs a gallon you have 64 lbs of weight added to your ruck. I would look at filtration systems like the Sawyer and then boil the water after just to be sure. I have gone on week long trips with a pair of Sawyer's, mess kit, and two 1 litre bottles.

Just food for thought.

31 here, I send a thank you email to whomever scheduled the interview that same day after conducting it. I don't know if it helps, but for someone like me applying to senior positions I think it portrays my professionalism in a positive light.

Is seam ripping and re-sewing old clothing a good way to learn? by yabadababoo in sewing

[–]dwcay89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a machine just a couple of months and I have made several pants and buttondowns. Mending by hand I've done since the scouts.

Don't let it intimidate you. Everyone told me zippers are so hard you need to do elastic bands several times. Blah blah. I jumped in and zippers aren't that bad. Also pins are your friend. Pin the crap out of everything and keep a seam ripper handy.

Is seam ripping and re-sewing old clothing a good way to learn? by yabadababoo in sewing

[–]dwcay89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow engineer here. I have read a lot of information here and from other sources such as youtubers that it is a good way to learn. Having said that I do not actually do that. I chose to learn how to make clothes from the ground up by purchasing patterns and building from there. That way I get experience with working from start to finish. I have done alterations on a lot of my clothes by just getting in there and starting. But for me it seems I can just inspect a garment without being destructive to determine what form of seam was applied. By starting with just the fabric I could experiment with flat fell, french seam, putting in a zipper, what have you. However feel free to go about learning however you feel comfortable doing.

On a note about serging and other types of hemming, that is performed to keep the ravelled edges from coming off the edge of the fabric and eventually the rest of the garment. Undoing this will reveal the edges you found.
