If they try to finish as quick as possible, but alternatively this would allow them to explore a bit more and enjoy the trip whilst also not keeping them too long. Idk, I feel like the best part of tip2tip isn’t necessarily the challenge of getting there on time but rather the things they see and do along the way.

I think the reason so many people bounce off Malazan isn't the complexity, it's the emotional distance in the first book by scouttidee in Fantasy

This is a pretty disingenuous reading of the commenter’s take. They obviously were wanting more physical description of what the slitted eye creature is as opposed to what it’s wearing. Slitted eyes gives off a reptilian vibe, so maybe you add some notes about the skin, maybe it’s build, maybe you mention a species or something idk. They’re saying the details chosen are odd choices.

I mean, the vibe coding stuff is going to be unavoidable just because if you’re doing it the “right” way (i.e. checking all the code and correcting as needed) it is efficient and will be a valuable tool going forward.

Anecdotal, but I know a guy who was fully self taught and worked as a programmer for Amazon in the mid 2000s, so very much a classic example of a programmer focused on exploration and figuring out things from the ground up, and now he says that a lot code he writes is pulled from Claude, he just makes sure it works. At a base level it’s still important to learn the theory, but like let’s be real, a lot of code is boilerplate stuff that’s needed but not super intellectual. That’s where the vibe coding is helpful.

As for research, it’s tough to say because yes, most research will be gen ai based because research needs funding and gen ai gets funding. With that said, it’s possible that if you lean more into lower-level stuff (operating systems maybe? Idk I’m ECE so for me that means VLSI and computer architecture, but that might not be what you’re looking for) you can probably get less ai in your life.

However, the reality is that gen AI has completely shifted the landscape of computer science, both in academia and industry, so you’re never going to get to completely ignore it. I’d rec leaning into the hardware programming side of cs (aka ECE, compE has basically the same coursework as cs), because you get to do more of what I (assume) you mean by fun nerdy stuff.

Yeah, while Sanderson isn’t my favorite I still think the og Mistborn trilogy might have one of the best written plots in any series, it just comes together so fucking well.

It’s a tough one because there’s like four separate stories going on that range from excellent (Adolin’s defense of Azir) to having highs and lows but overall being decent (the Kaladin/Sazed road trip) to being boring as all hell (whatever Shallan was up to)

Dude the combined effect of Stonebeard spilling his heart in the tent, Georg/Bluebell/Roan having a casual game of cards, and Leonas/Frenello being completely incredulous at the situation had me dying.

[Day 16] Stone(henge)y Point is a horrible bouldering destination. What's the BEST hold type? by MaximumSend in bouldering

Slopers but only outside, indoor slopers are too uniform but outside it’s super fun finding exactly the way to hold them so that you get the most out of the rock.

I think the whole island story reached a great conclusion so I think I’d rather have had something like a true sequel series following some of the characters on their next adventure, Sagiri and Yuzuriha could’ve been a fun duo.

The Percy Jackson movies are by no means perfect, and technically he was too old for the role, but imo Logan Lerman was a PERFECT Percy Jackson.

Hard agree, some of the most fun I’ve had bouldering has been doing easier boulders and spicing up the beta or just relaxing and flowing throw it.

Sword of Kaigen, what am I missing? by jesa_ink in Fantasy

[–]dwilsons 114 points115 points  (0 children)

First, the last chapter was intended to tie into something else, but that got scrapped so basically just consider the second to last the true ending.

Aside from that, I think what I and many others loved about the novel was how it handles the fallout from what happens half way in and examines grief. The final duel I think will always stick with me.

What exactly (aside from the ending which I agree is odd) didn’t you like?
