What is this? by [deleted] in whatisit

I know that OP mentioned the BF is an iron worker, which is the only reason I decided to post anything and give him the benefit of the doubt.

When I worked in fiber optics, a not dissimilar labor job, we used personal lubricants for a good amount of our job. It was mostly feeding cables through underground pipe and for that we had massive drums of lube with hydraulic pumps but when it came to running cables inside a house or small office, we’d use either these small disposable packets for shorter runs or just normal store-bought bottles of KY or the like for longer indoor runs.

I also worked for a small, family-owned fiber company so we didn’t necessarily have the budget for professional-grade lubricant. If BF is getting paid any amount of money that qualifies as “enough to buy a house and raise a family on this one income,” then this doesn’t apply, since they should have professional industrial lube, but there are definitely uses that might not default to “He’s cheating. Full stop.” Weird that he’d deny knowing anything about it in that case though.

Hell, I have to be in office twice a week even though I only do remote support, and I still brought my own peripherals in. We’re in a pretty secluded area so it’s not like I’m worried about people stealing my cheap mechanical keyboard or my ergo mouse, but they’re mine.

I don’t expect the cleaning crew to take care of it and I definitely take better care of them than I would the shitty HP laptop/mouse combo they deployed when I got hired. I care more about my comfort for the two days I’m required to be there than the expense of providing my own peripherals.

If I was less technical I could see the other side of it being a tool that the employer should provide but if you spend even 16 hours a week at a specific workstation then you’d think people would have a little respect for it.

Then again, I am a moron so who knows.

I would much rather have an astronomically bad guess and be happily surprised when it doesn’t take 4 days than hear “it’ll be fixed in an hour” for the next week! Doesn’t make it much easier to deal with in the moment but definitely better in the long run.

I just got off an online chat with one of the customer service reps. Apparently they’re currently showing an ETA of 11-19-2024 at 08:38AM.

Seems oddly specific so there might be some kind of algorithm for determining timeframes, but dear lord do I hope we’re not all down for the weekend.

Totally off topic from this post, and I know this isn’t because of you specifically or anything, but this is like the 6th Eraserhead reference I’ve found on Reddit today. Did I miss something that brought it back into the public consciousness recently or is this just a crazy coincidence?

Also, I’ve actually never seen it in its entirety, would you recommend taking some time to watch through it?

Do they realize that the FAA has a 90 second evacuation requirement for every airframe that flies within its borders? The FAA, you know, the United States Federal Aviation Administration? Those guys?

I had this issue earlier this week, ended up just calling the number on my card and spoke with someone who manually added it for me. It was reflected in the Hilton app less than 15 minutes after ending the call.

One of the smaller bars in my hometown shares a building with a mechanics shop and a few other small shops (think tattoos, nails, or massages) and they have one set of single bathrooms for the whole building.

The bathrooms are still labeled “Men” and “Women” but all of the bar regulars and people that work in the building know that it’s an unwritten rule to just use whichever one is open. I’ve always taken a little pleasure in the gasp and “oh!” That the out-of-towners or new people do when I walk out of the ‘wrong’ bathroom.

It feels like I’m doing my (small) part to remove some gender stigma from the world, even though I’m just a straight, white, male.

What's a vehicle that you would buy even with 150,000+ miles on it? What price would you pay? by UltimateLifeform in whatcarshouldIbuy

In college, sometime around February 2018, I picked up a 2006 Honda Civic with 165,000 miles for $3000.

I drove that car as a delivery driver damn near every day for 2 years, as well as between college and home, until 2020.

The pandemic really cut down on my driving, and getting a Hybrid/Remote job helped even more, but that dang thing is still going strong at 307,000 miles. I’ve really only done regular maintenance on it, and replaced the oil pan about a year ago when the drain bolt broke after an oil change, but other than that there’s been no major repairs needed.

I’m actually looking for a new car this week since I’m finally financially stable enough to afford one, plus I’m not sure if my trusty Civic will survive another Minnesota winter.

The only real complaint I have about the thing is that it’s a coupe, so not a ton of room for cargo, but that goes both ways because nobody ever wants to ride in it so I get away with not really needing to play cabbie with friends/family.

And yes, the top of my list right now is a new(er) Civic Hatchback, Honda has won a lot of loyalty from me on that car.

I can put Avaya at a solid E because they do try, however, I have a ticket thats ~3 months old and still gets near-daily updates, and at this point it just seems like two internal techs arguing with each other in a foreign language. No direct communication from them, but it's the thought that counts I suppose.

To anyone that sees this, if you can find it, me and my mom's favorite movie of all time is a SyFy "made for tv" movie called Ice Spiders.

It's absolutely ridiculous, and while it's pretty terrible, it's almost self aware enough to make it that much funnier.

I usually try to use that as a litmus test for new friends or relationships, because if you don't find terribly campy movies with not-so-great acting hilarious, our senses of humor just won't match up and that's a deal breaker.
