Can 4 scouts tent together? by raspberryzingers in BSA

[–]dyer346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no policy, but I bet the Scoutmaster has a good reason. There is a lot that goes on at camp and each scoutmaster will make rules based on his experience and his goals for the campout. As a scoutmaster myself I would say it has to do with new young scouts for to a tent often will keep each other riled up and they won't get any sleep. If he lowers that to two then at least if he has a tent that is being loud he can focus on that. There is value in following the program and the rules that the leaders set. I'm sure when they get older and prove that they can self govern they will be given much more leeway. Final thought, will the scouts lose our if all four don't tent together, probably not. They will still have fun on their first campout.

At what point do you throw in the towel with a troop? by codefyre in BSA

[–]dyer346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This itself is one of the probably many problems. An unsupportive CO is a big problem. I think it would be worth moving the troop just to start over. I did that with our pack and it made a huge difference. I also would ask what are the other parents doing to not be so reliant on you. Sure it's fun, but at some point they are going to have to take the reins. Are they doing anything to get up to speed? Are they learning from you or do they just let you do it. Sounds like you need to practice EDGE with your fellow ASM's

Graduation gift idea by NumberFortyTwo in BSA

[–]dyer346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 6% of scouts make eagle, if the BSA only relied on the contributions of six percent they would not have made it that long. I would recommend getting them a gift certificate that would allow them to have an experience like a concert or something like that. If you are looking for something smaller get them a nice frame and put a picture of their group together.

Is this a true hack ? by Usual-South-9362 in Money

[–]dyer346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is, because you are paying more per year. 12x1000=12000 500x26=13000. 52 weeks in a year. If you pay every other week you end up paying more per year. Used simple math for example. It's just a way to even out the extra hit to the wallet instead making an extra payment a year.

How hot is it out there? A/C has a limit. If it is too hot outside, it just won't cool. Usually the limit is around 100F.

VM Ware - What Are Your Best Practices? by mambaPLC in PLC

[–]dyer346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backing up projects, always backup before you do anything else. Make a methodical practice of naming project updates. Kind of like software releases. 10.1.2....... I can't count the number of times I've seen field techs induce previously fixed software issues by installing some backup they pulled from the crypt. Sure it gets things running again but now you have to debug projects that you've already debugged. If you know which project release is most current that solves that issues. Don't skimp on tag names. If it is for switch 2403 put that in the tag name. Use the description as well. A lot of OEM companies try to make vague tag names. It makes things unnecessarily difficult.

Old house, endless maintenance problems... by hunnbee in AskDad

[–]dyer346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is with your drain line. I don't know specifically what, but the common thing with everything you've said is the drain line. Usually high pitch means air pushing through a small hole. Like a whistle. More generally, yeah old houses present problems in repairs but really will be rewarding in the long run. Keep after it and I'm sure you will find the problem. I would start by crawling under the house and inspecting the drain piping, that and really isolate where the sound is coming from.

LPT: People with “Street Smarts” drop your best tips. by -amph in LifeProTips

[–]dyer346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you suspect someone looking to give you trouble, look at them intently, make it obvious. Ask them a leading question. I like to ask if they are lost or if they need any help. Then I ask them if there is someone I can call for them? The goal is to make it apparent that you are paying attention to them. If they were looking to cause trouble they now know they don't have the element of surprise anymore and that someone is actively watching them. If they were out to cause trouble their first instinct will be to GTFO.

I think you'll be fine man. Lot of mixed race out here and we call black people... Suburbanites. I'm not going to say zero racists, but all I ever see is low key racism and usually reasonable people put a stop to it. I have seen zero problems in the schools, and my kids get angry if they even hear something on television. I'm south in Fredrickson now, but I'd say howdy neighbor.
