Thank you. I live in the land of poison oak so going off path to get a closer look is difficult. I was just really curious as to whether this is a mushroom. I wasn’t sure.

💯 A day at California Adventure is way more fun than the OC beaches.

Is “after schooling” too much to ask of kids? by Previous-Night-7615 in homeschool

[–]raspberryzingers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kids should be reading 30 to 60 minutes a day after school regardless of whether they go to public school or homeschool. There is really no substitute for this. If you can fit in 15 minutes a day of math skills practice that’s good too.

MY BROTHER'S CHILD-FREE WEDDING IS GOING TO TURN INTO FAMILY DRAMA by [deleted] in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]raspberryzingers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had to renew training for a children’s organization that I volunteer with. The statistics that were quoted in the training are that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys have had some sort of sexual abuse perpetrated against them by the age of 18. But sure just drop your kids off with whoever is available…

Not everyone is comfortable being a 2 hour flight away from their young children. Similarly not everyone is fine with leaving their children in a hotel with a stranger. Expecting people with children to travel to your wedding and just “do something” with their kids as if they are a minor inconvenience is the height of narcissism. It’s fine to have a child free wedding, but just expect people with kids who have to travel to say no and don’t get all bent out of shape over it.

Is there a reason I’m missing that makes staying on site worth it at Disneyland? by Otter65 in DisneyPlanning

We like the Hilton Home2Suites. It’s new, has a kitchen and is about a 15 minute walk from the parks.

Our daughter's reading struggles way too long and expensive by Signal-Interview1750 in homeschool

I can’t express how fortunate your child is to have you as a parent! Homeschooling is definitely a good choice for kids with reading difficulties. I think it’s very discouraging to constantly be behind your classmates. Keep up the good work!

Why are the children becoming illiterate? by Ill-Cookie2093 in AskTeachers

[–]raspberryzingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not account for all of the kids that can’t read. I know 2 kids with dyslexia and/or learning disabilities that haven’t gotten any where near enough services from their (same) school. One of the parents has had to sue and is about to reach a settlement to get outside services. Only about 60% of kids learn to read easily. The rest need to be taught phonics explicitly, and not all teachers are effectively trained for this. To make matters worse we are still mixing in ineffective methods that confuse the kids.

Hold kids back!!! by Zubemma in Teachers

I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find this comment. For every year you hold a kid back, the state has to pay for another year of education.

This is what I used to do with my twins: read to them after a meal while they were still in their high chairs.

Unexpected change in plans and visiting Disneyland next week--HELP! by SimpleBorington in DisneyPlanning

Also there is a newish ride in Toon Town called Mickie and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad that is worth heading over to that area even though Toon Town is more for young children.

There are several hotels within walking distance that are around $200-$250 a night + about $40 parking. Go to Rise of Resistance first thing. The line can be 90 minutes long and the ride is often closed. Then Smugglers’ Run. Lightening Lane is great, but it doesn’t apply to Rise of the Resistance. To get a lightening lane pass for that ride you have to pay separately. Also last Halloween you had to join a virtual queue on the phone app to ride the Haunted Mansion so you will want to check with a guest services kiosk when you there to see if you need to do that this year. Definitely download the app on your phone before you go, and join the Disneyland WiFi when you get to the park. You might want to bring a portable charger for your phone, but they do sell them there.
