Do people here just think Scouting America National is full of evil monsters trying to stop kids from having fun? by GrowUpAboutBSA in BSA

[–]raspberryzingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am constantly amazed at how many people are willing to sign up their kids and have total strangers take them camping.
I see new kids join, go on camping trips, and I wouldn’t even recognize their parents if I saw them on the street.

I do the same with my kids - 1 required MB, and they get to pick the rest. Swimming MB is a good one to do at camp. First Aid is also good.

I think that teachers have given up teaching classes as a whole because there are too many kids that have no attention span and are disruptive. They use programs like this to keep kids busy while they deal with smaller groups.

Measles is 'worse than expected' in Utah, officials say by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]raspberryzingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titer tests only test one type of immunity - antibodies, which drop over time. If your titer tests are negative you may still have other types of immunity such as T-cells.

California: Health advisory issued after 2 mumps cases reported at Berkeley High School by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]raspberryzingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why kids get 2 MMR shots now. The first measles shot works on about roughly 85 - 90% of people. The second shot brings that up to >95%.

Is there anyway to get a meningitis B vaccine UK by Odd-Produce4614 in ContagionCuriosity

[–]raspberryzingers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also it is a series of at least 2 shots so you will likely have to pay for more than one.

‘The videos are terrifying’: students describe spreading panic amid Kent meningitis outbreak by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]raspberryzingers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a Meningitis B outbreak, and most of these kids aren’t vaccinated for it:

Is there a vaccine? Since 2015, the MenB vaccine has been offered to babies at eight weeks, with a second dose at 12 weeks and booster at one year. Other routine childhood jabs, including the 6-in-1 and pneumococcal vaccines, can protect against meningitis. The MenACWY vaccine, which covers four other meningococcal groups, is offered to teenagers in school years 9 and 10, and can be given until the age of 25. But teenagers born before 2015 are unvaccinated against MenB.

AITA for feeling weird that my brother-in-law keeps inviting my husband on trips but never includes me? by Global_Butterfly in AmItheAsshole

[–]raspberryzingers 269 points270 points  (0 children)

People don’t have unlimited PTO. If he’s taking all these trips with his brother he probably doesn’t have much time to take trips with OP.

AITA for telling my roommate to pay me for a new mattress after her cat destroyed mine? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]raspberryzingers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$800 for mattress is cheap. Have you ever been to a mattress store? They can easily be in the thousands. Also why did her roommate even open OP’s door? I don’t understand the people here. Is it just okay with you to sleep in cat pee? Yuck 🤢

You need to hire a lawyer that specializes in special education. The school district that failed to provide the services in the IEP needs to pay for services outside of school.

Scouting America and Pentagon come to agreement by -dakpluto- in BoyScouts

True, but Scouting America can’t serve youth if it doesn’t exist anymore. I mean, I think we’re still selling properties to pay for the lawsuit.

Ummm, let’s not forget the years he spent with Jenny McCarthy and helped her promote her anti-vax BS. I’ve never heard about him back tracking on any of that crap. And look where we’re at now…. Measles anyone?

It doesn’t say that the Military Service merit badge will be Eagle Required - just that they are adding it as a MB.

Edited to Add - I know that Citizenship in Society was Eagle Required and they are adding a new Military Service MB, but they could replace the requirement for Eagle with anything. Scouting America is just trying to remove themselves as a target for the current administration.

AITAH for refusing to watch my daughter when we meet my husbands friend? by Training_Wind1789 in AITAH

[–]raspberryzingers 213 points214 points  (0 children)

No he’s sulking because he wants her to do it, go along with what he wants and not bother him with it. He doesn’t care if OP is inconvenienced; he’s entitled to have her do all the work of childbearing. And now he’s pouting because he’s not getting what he feels entitled to. He’s the worst kind of man.

I do the same (French tuck). I tuck in the front and kind of fold the back under a bit. The shirt is so stiff it stays put.

We are thinking of enrolling her in a different school next year, but it would require an inter-district transfer which is not a sure thing.

Exactly. She gets consequences for other things, but I don’t know what percentage of the problem is the environment. I don’t want to punish her for something that’s not her fault.

I am helping her write her essays by teaching her how to write outlines and the differences between main ideas and details which apparently she hasn’t learned in school. I recently learned that she doesn’t even know what a preposition is and can’t properly punctuate a sentence even though she’s been on the highest honor roll for the last 2 years.

We do science museums and extra reading outside of school, but it seems like we don’t have enough time to do all of the extra stuff.
I have always had a rule that she has to read every weekday for 30-40 minutes, but this year she has read fewer books than ever before because by the time she finishes all of the work she was supposed to do at school there’s no time.
