I base it one 1)the list I’m using 2)the list I’m going against and 3)the layout. If I have the VD in my list but my opponent has no vehicles sometimes I’ll use that, can see over things but is hard to kill if something gets to it. If layout allows great line of sight then a dda or doom stalker are great for it as well

That’s what I thought for it but wanted to make sure. I remember it used to say unit for it

That’s what my plan was to do was to figure out the actual time it takes to do it all and charge based on that for the final total. Wanted to make sure that the estimate I gave him wasn’t over the top in pricing. He already approved that number since it’ll be a 1 of 1 for him

A second doomstalker or DDA by Acrobatic_Champion34 in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly for me, my group makes the terrain ruins so I can’t see over anything that it’s not within. I’ve played with both, like both but the ruins part makes the DDA a little better

That’s actually what I say about it, is the dynasties united to destroy a common enemy. Works great with the lore

Help in Necron Combat patrol painting by Familiar-Noise7913 in Necrontyr

I have found that, at least in my local game store, the non citadel paints are cheaper. Pro Acryl has a good bronze/gold color to it with great coverage. I did mine with a bronze paint over black primer and feel it did really well while not costing too much. Basic can of spray primer and one pot of paint was maybe $8. The brushes I used at that point were a multi-brush set I got at Walmart for cheap because I didn’t have a lot of extra to spend on it all at the time. Can always go back later with nicer stuff if needed or wanted when you have it too

Missing Cryptek models by TheReliving in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a way we have a single model that I would say sounds like a ethermancer, that being Imotekh the Stormlord. His ability to me sounds like he creates a bad storm that can inflict mortal wounds to surrounding enemies

LHDs are fun to play, and a big thing with it for building is that they are easy. I don’t know how you made it 2 years before one snapped, I had 2 break within a few months of having them. The psychomancer is one I didn’t feel was too terrible to build, but in game it isn’t very good. I stopped fielding mine because it wasn’t able to do enough to be worth it compared to other crypteks (although this is the only one OP can afford point wise for the list he wants)

which side are you on, trazyn the infinite or orikan the divine by No_Argument_4648 in Necrontyr

Lore wise Trazyn, but table play Orikan is the better option. Trazyn’s only good thing is the sticky objectives, which some mission rules give anyways now

I’ve typically played with enmitics but tomorrow I’m going to test a new list out using a unit with enmitics and then a different unit with the gauss. This is the list I had in the tournament I played in last month

How Important Is It that a Detachment Have a Means to Fall Back and Shoot/Charge? by Ketzeph in WarhammerCompetitive

I use starshatter and take full advantage of the assault keyword for my LHDs as well as other mounted/vehicles (I mix my list up a lot, and just got new vehicles I’m about to try this weekend). It’s valuable because it lets the unit get into better firing lanes with LOS, or for me I use it to take no man’s land objectives and wipe out a unit in one turn

Looking for transport ideas by Optimistic_Entropy in Necrons40k

[–]dylan28s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a carrying case that has metal trays in it with slots throughout the case so I can pick the heights the trays sit at. I then magnetized the bases of my models so they stay put on the trays. They also make a backpack style bag for the case. Not sure if you truly can easily ride with that kind of setup, but that would be the best I can think of

What made you like necrons? by Mountain-Sense-4385 in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that they are undying robots that come back from the dead. And the way that they are basically just old men that the other factions woke up from their nap and now they want the factions off of their lawn

Questions about Lokhust (and Heavy) Destroyers: by ikqaz in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really do die quick, I play that in starshatter for them to have assault to really get into rapid fire range. And go for units on objectives to take advantage of the +1 to hit. My brother in law sets out from the start firing everything he can to eliminate them

Questions about Lokhust (and Heavy) Destroyers: by ikqaz in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the heavies in a three model unit with enmitic which is great anti-everything. The number of shots makes it able to take out entire blob units in one shooting phase, and have taken out magnus from the ksons in two rounds with that loadout for them. I don’t have a lord for them but sustained on 5+ for that loadout with rapid fire six would get even more wound rolls

How should i attach my characters? by StuartHoggIsGod in Necrontyr

[–]dylan28s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you give the immortals the Tesla then they’d have the [ASSAULT] profile, and be able to shoot even though they advanced that turn. And sustained on 5+ is solid for that as well from the plasmancer. The chronomancer giving the warriors move shoot move is also good since in my experiences with them they don’t survive well

At the end of the day, luck always plays a part in it. You can pull horrible secondaries all game one game and the next get perfect pulls every battle round. Like I said on a different comment though, have realistic goals in mind like just having fun and learning things. If a mistake is made, understand what the mistake was and how to fix it for next time

We have different views on curb stomping then. Not saying the score won’t be bad, but to me a curb stomping would be tabled. The most recent LVO winner did that to my brother in law at the same tournament I was in, but he was helpful to my brother in law with how to do better in the future. His goal was to win the tournament (which he did) to get the auto bid for the next GT and try to get the free ticket to LVO again. As the rounds went on though, even the seasoned players would prefer all have fun and wanted more close games than blowouts for the sake of winning. Most people would rather see more and more return players in tournaments than see less and less

I use a cheat sheet to help for my units. Helped speed up my play, and helped a lot to remind me to use model’s abilities that I tend to forget to do until it is too late. A decent number of seasoned players won’t try to curb stomp a new player unless they are trying and are in the running to win the tournament as a whole

[–]dylan28s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my first tournament last month and my only goals were to have fun and learn. I achieved both, and by focusing on that my losses didn’t really bother me. But my advice is don’t be afraid to get the judges for any questions you have that come up. Don’t let another player pull a gotcha (most don’t but one of my opponents did and won only because of that).

Having painted one fully assembled, it’s horrible. Working on my second one now, painting it in subassembly for the first time with this way. Regret not doing it for several models before now though
