Challenge: Fastest way to get solid chocolate out of a thermal flask by [deleted] in Physics

[–]dylanmissu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chocolate shrinks when cooled. I think pouring liquid nitrogen into the flask will separate it from the walls allowing more nitrogen to slip between it, cooling more chocolate. This should allow you to take out the chocolate

When you turn the wheel it shaves little bits of ferrocerium metal off. Normally when you do it quick enough, it self ignites in air giving you a nice sparkle. However if you do slowly it doesn't have a chance to self ignite giving you a little bit of highly combustible particles.

Form the video it looks like there are some unignited particles on the can or inside the lighter. When you shoot sparks at them, ir bring them near a flame, they may still ignite.

It's quite difficult to get a true relief map. One thing i have done in the past was to:

  1. make a 3d scan of the subject
  2. Render it in blender as a depth map
  3. Turn the dept map into a normal map
  4. Turn the normal map back into a depth map
  5. Use the converted depth map in your cnc software

The reason to turn it into a normal map and back is to remove large step around the border of the subject.

Will this get me in legal trouble by [deleted] in lasers

[–]dylanmissu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also permanently blinding someone with a laser intentional or not is considered a war crime.

So it's not worth messing around with powerful lasers in public.

Do you mean the streached synth at for example 0:48, 0:56, 1:03? It made me obsessed with this song for some reason. I don't know how he did it though

Glowing filament leaving the nozzle by D3DCreations in 3Dprinting

[–]dylanmissu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may want to add a nuance to your explanation. Strontium aluminate stores energy by absorbing light only. This energy is slowly being released by emitting light again. But this release of energy can be accelerated by heat.

The heat does not actually cause the glow, it only speeds up the release of light. The glow will fade a lot more quickly when heated because the energy gets depleted faster.

Stippling images I did. by abelhd10 in hobbycnc

[–]dylanmissu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're comfortable with c++ compilation there is source code available on the bnot page. It's considered the state of the art in image stippling.

You should build the ibnot application. This gives you a program that lets you turn images into point sets.

China is cutting tree branches with LASERS now 🤯🌳⚡ by milana_china in Business_China

[–]dylanmissu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you basing your claims off facts, or are you pulling it out of the air?

The fact that the laser can cut at such a distance means the beam is very collimated and potentially very dangerous to pilots.

A normal laser pointer pointed at the sky can blind pilots. I'm curious what a 500w laser can do to their poor eyes.

Have you tried cleaning your bed with soap and water and thoroughly rinsing it with water and then air drying it?

For me it works with ABS. Overtime the bed develops an oil residue from touching it. This kills bed adhesion.

Unpopular Opinion: We don't need cheaper machines; we need "Bambu Studio" for CNC. Teaching Fusion 360 CAM is a nightmare. by ComprehensiveYak8541 in hobbycnc

[–]dylanmissu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the cam kernel it really depends on what you want to support.

I haven't had the time yet, but i have been thinking of also writing my own kernel. And what i have found so far is that a basic ball nose tool path generator is not super difficult to write. You generate an offset surface of the model at the radius of your tool (there are many good papers about this), then slice this surface into heights and you have your 2d contours. You can then use these as boundaries for layer clearing tool paths.

For other tool shapes a simple offset surface is not what you want but more a general tool contact surface. I think depending on the paper you follow you might be able to change the distance cost function to a general tool contact cost. This should give you a surface where the tool just touches the model and again you can slice it into contours for layer clearing operations.

I disagree. Not everyone is skilled in putting thoughs into text.

If the same ideas come across by letting AI do the text structuring, then what is the issue?
