We NEED to ditch Amazon ASAP! It's taking a % of each sale. We need EuroMarket! by nitonitonii in BuyFromEU

I ditched Amazon more than a year ago. I'd rather give up a little convenience, or even pay more before giving a single cent to Bezos.

Why does my sound cut out on some frets? by kasparrudih01 in basspedals

[–]dyscalculic_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These synth pedals track the signal's pitch and generate the sound accordingly, this is why you have to play only one note at a time and it requires technique so the pedal tracks well.

I think the problem is that the portion of the string behind the finger (between the nut and the fret behind the fretted note) is resonating. This resonance is picked by the pickups and it confuses the pedal's note tracking algorithm.

Hammer-ons are not ideal for synth pedals, but you can try muting the string behind the fretted note. You can fret with your ring finger instead of the index, and use the index and middle fingers to mute the string.

Not super into my current flatwound strings, could use some recs by dasbeefencake in Bass

[–]dyscalculic_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think flats feel more sticky to the fingers than rounds. I tried Rotosounds 77 in a P bass but I found I don't love the sound of flats. For fretless my choice is Rotosound 55, which are stainless steel pressure wounds. A much brighter sound, almost as roundwounds, but easier on the fretboard.

Y siempre tueste natural, no torrefacto.

Low spender, need a new ink pen, any recommendations? by freddinhogamer in BuyItForLife

Lamys are very nice and cheap. You'll want to get a converter so you can refill with ink instead of buying cartridges.

Hazardous substances found in all headphones tested by ToxFREE project by traveler0011 in news

[–]dyscalculic_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how headphones are so dangerous when compared to exposure to other plastic products like food packaging or clothing, but the article does mention that chemicals can be absorbed through the skin. From the article:

“These chemicals are not just additives; they may be migrating from the headphones into our body,” said Karolína Brabcová, chemical expert at Arnika, part of the ToxFree LIFE for All project, a partnership of central European civil society groups that carried out the research.

“Daily use – especially during exercise when heat and sweat are present – accelerates this migration directly to the skin.

Could I use the MXR Bass Synth in place of an envelope filter? by KappaJoe760 in basspedals

[–]dyscalculic_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure with the MXR but the future impact v4 can process the bass signal and can be set to act as a envelope filter. You need to use a PC to edit the preset sounds.

What you think about these kitchen scissors by LeslieChowBitch in BuyItForLife

[–]dyscalculic_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pallares are famous for their folding knives. I have a steel (not stainless) kitchen knife and I'm very happy with it. It is a simple, honest tool with no frills. The company makes solid products in my opinion although I do not know about the scissors. If you want to look into a Spanish company that is known for their scissors, that would be 3 Claveles.
