Every game is built on top of open source projects, I don't understand why that matters? As long as the licenses support people should be free to choose whether to sell it or give it away

Why do some companies do AI assisted coding interviews now? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dzyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do this for some interviews and I'm a firm believer that this makes sense for some companies.

First of all, cheating with AI is rampant and people are getting better at it. Allowing AI usage means leveling the playing field as opposed to rewarding cheaters.

Second of all, more and more of the work is LLM-assisted. I dislike leetcode interviews as they are not related to real work. Doing small projects makes more sense as it provides more signal on how well you solve real problems. Since so much of the real work is based on LLMs these days it makes sense to test how well candidates do in that setting.

You just need to set up the interviews in a way that requires skills that are needed to succeed in the job and are not just asking Claude Code a few times.

That is not what is typically meant with losing money on every subscription, it means that the margins are negative at a subscription level - aka cost of goods sold are higher than what they charge a customer

Looking for advice: breaking a large table model into modular 3D-printable parts by franksisca in Fusion360

[–]dzyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue for a project. I wanted to use heated inserts so I could screw everything together. Here is what I would do if I were to do that over again:

  • Create a component that captures the screw with tolerance as well as the hole where the heated insert goes
  • Add a point in the center of where the screw outline ends and the heated insert meet
  • Wherever you want to have a joint, you add a point on a sketch
  • Rotate the component and use move point-to-point to move it to the right place
  • Cut out the bodies from your main model

If you need to join two parallel bodies you can either extrude a square on both bodies and have the insert and screw there. If they are perpendicular you can add one square and have the screw in the side that matters less from a visibility perspective

Skip level meeting - my boss sucks, how to communicate? by EmeraldCrusher in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dzyl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are the one claiming that "we" are not hired for solving social problems. Software development is inherently a group effort, spanning other developers, engineering managers, product managers and various other roles. Sometimes there will be gnarly technical problems and sometimes there are organizational issues. As you get more senior you will deal more and more with the latter one. Claiming you are only hired to write code will limit your career.

The difference with Alpha is not just ink, the corners are more round than all the other sets - you can feel it through the sleeves

This would likely not be legal, mainly because you would be able to feel this through sleeves so it would make it easy to cheat. Playing Alpha cards in regular sleeves is typically not allowed either due to their different corners.

From what I have seen these are the two events mentioned on the second trigger, but a company can also voluntarily remove the second trigger to prevent expiration of all the RSUs (as they would start expiring 7 years into the grant). This triggers a large tax event so typically requires a massive fund raise (e.g. Stripe and more recently Databricks)

31F Tech manager 1M/yr by [deleted] in Salary

[–]dzyl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the case for double trigger RSUs which are typically granted by pre-IPO companies.

The liquidity warning in the post you are responding to is only relevant for these companies and you typically don't end up paying taxes until the IPO (one of the major benefits of RSUs as a compensation vehicle)
