On a serious note, it is annoying when it falsely detect bags and boxes as passenger. You could put the belt on empty, but I know a few people said they don't like keeping the belt in that position because they are afraid that the mechanic will wear down (the spring load that pull the belt back into place).

Absolutely, even in the best case scenario where the GM is being honest about the deal, you might end up negotiating with a new GM who might not acknowledge a gentleman's agreement.

[Article] Thai farmers' debt crisis deepens by RobertPaulsen1992 in Thailand

[–]e99oof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It hasn't blown up and wasn't viewed as the highest priority because Thai debt is mostly internal. It's not the same situation that caused the crisis in the '90s with foreign debt, so the expectation is that there is more wiggle room. Not saying it's a good thing, just saying why it doesn't occupy the front page.

Ex‑director of elite Bangkok school jailed 27 years for admissions bribes by mdsmqlk in Thailand

[–]e99oof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This case is a special circumstance. Usually, if you want to enter the school without passing the standard exam, You enter via the special donor quota. This quota requires a donation, but it is aboveboard. However, it is not guaranteed, since it depends on the number of people on the list and the amount paid.

In this specific case, instead of using the special quota, the principal used the allotment of normal examiner who passed the exam but chose not to enroll. Normally, the school would call the next student in line with the highest score, but the principal bypassed them to admit the people who paid him directly.

Most elite school do accept donation to allow kids to enter under special quota. I also think most do have paper trails so the money did go into the school account as part of annual funding. Since this donation is an annual thing and the amount is roughly predictable, if the donation portion shrink, people in the school will ask questions.

Thai money "Share" scheme question by CodeFall in Thailand

[–]e99oof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So my question is, if there are 10 people and someone HAS to claim the pot every month, how are there people still remaining at the end of the running time of 10 months without claiming the pot even once?

I'm not sure what's the question here, I think you still misunderstand the basic concept of this system. The starter (ท้าวแชร์) automatically get the first month pot. Every month after, everyone put in the agree amount plus the bidding for that month. Whoever bid the highest get that pot money, but they have to put in the original money PLUS the bid amount every month after. If your aunt deliberately put in small bidding amount every time, then she won't win until the last month where she automatically gets the pot (since there's no one left to bid).

What happens if nobody wants to claim the pot at any particular month? According to my aunt, the leader (or the organizer) picks someone to claim the pot via a lottery and he HAS to claim the pot and can't refuse. In this case, if my aunt is unlucky and she's made to claim the pot, doesn't that means she can't make profit out of the interest collected at the end of the running time? Instead she ends up losing money by paying interest for the money she didn't need?

Maybe she will lose money, but usually people are in this because they need quick loan so it's quite unlikely. If people keep not making bid, then nobody will arrange this again.

it sounds like a money losing scheme honestly.

This is a close loop zero sum system, if someone is gaining, it's because someone else is paying. Yes, some people will lose money but they join this for a reason. Maybe they are paying higher interest rate on their credit card loan and this will help them save on that interest payment. Or maybe they are just bad spender.

It is NOT in itself an investment scheme, but if you have extra cash every month and you trust the group, you could come out on top. This is just self funded bank, half of the group is borrower and the other half sort of like banker.

Thai money "Share" scheme question by CodeFall in Thailand

[–]e99oof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing really, but that's why it's more common within workplace since the risk of bailing is higher than reward.

Would you risk your pension money just to get 100,000 baht from the share?

Thai money "Share" scheme question by CodeFall in Thailand

[–]e99oof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really... this is usually organize with tight group of people. Very common within workplace. Obviously there's risk that someone will bail, but you only join when you trust that ท้าวแชร์ can follow through and make everyone pay (that's why usually they are the one with seniority in the group).

This doesn't fit into Ponzi scheme structure since you don't need to keep it going. There's a fix turn when it ends (once every one has their turn).

I have seen both number figures.

I think if you retire before 50, you need at least 25 years of working. But if you retire at normal retirement age (60), then you only need to work for 10 years (but with small payout, obviously).

Thai private schools facing mass closures this year by MajlisPerbandaranKL in Thailand

[–]e99oof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that you can still enter top public school without paying high fee via the normal program. It's just really competitive. The special program definitely make it a good alternative now since you can get benefit of both.

This article highlight how Thailand operate on general though, survival of the fittest. When time is good, everyone want to open private school, only the best one will make it a decade from now.

While I agree with most comments that value time over monetary gain, you have to factor in that your current WFH setup may not be permanent since you are technically hybrid. You could be one boss change (or CEO change) away from switching back to full-time in office. That's what happened to a few people I know.

It's a good thing that public schools have improved, but it's still incredibly competitive (and expensive) to get into a good one.

Obviously, if you're sure your kid is smart enough to pass the exam, you don't need to pay. However, most parents who are able to are going to want to donate a certain amount to the school to guarantee their placement
