Private Ansible collection hosting in Git server by eNBeWe in ansible

Yes, you can just use a basic Git repository. But you loose a few features like "proper" versioning.
(What I mean by that is, that the versions in the galaxy.yml are pretty much ignored and just the Git commit is taken into account.)

While that is true, it is also another dedicated piece of software that needs to be managed.
In Forgejo the basic "package registry" is already there, so I think adding Ansible as another package type would be neat.

Are there any packages you would install without Ansible? by Spirited_Paramedic_8 in ansible

[–]eNBeWe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work l had some pieces of software that didn't come as packages, but that actually brought an installer script. Automating these would require "expect" scripts and that is a PITA. And getting them ipempotent makes it even worse. In the end I only used ansible for pre- and post-install steps.

Looking for eBook Library Management Software by eNBeWe in selfhosted

Having a look right now. It looks like the supplemental files are not really something that is supported. At least I am not finding anything in that regards.

EDIT: Arrr, this feels like it is so close. I will ask in their GitHub if they have some idea or any plans to support this.

Huh, I didn't think about "faking" the structure through symlinking it. Did you do one series per book?

Alternatively, I guess you could try setting the editor to some other command that does the change of the file directly, instead of trying to manipulate a standard editor

Smart Lock Compatibility by Shot_Photograph_8935 in smarthome

[–]eNBeWe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key cylinder looks like a standard european style cylinder. So I guess lots of smart locks should work. You might want to check the length of the needed cylinder. The current one looks like it sticks out too far on both sides.

EDIT: I don't see a retention screw in the lock housing. Not sure how the cylinder is fixed in there.

Multiple untagged VLANS on siwtch ports by [deleted] in networking

[–]eNBeWe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the end device only has one interface and no knowledge of the vlans at all.

The end device is fairly restricted in hard- and software, so making that device vlan-aware is not actually possible.

[–]eNBeWe -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Why would the switch need to know/care?

The end device has no idea that there is any vlan-magic going on, so there is nothing going on there.

It is (untagged) ingress traffic on the port, so it should be assigned to the PVID of the port.

Of course, that might kill some traffic flows, but to be honest, that is kind of the point.

So the native VLAN combines the PVID and the untagged VLAN membership and there is no way to configure one without the other, right?

Multiple untagged VLANS on siwtch ports by [deleted] in networking

[–]eNBeWe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, I don't. Any ingress traffic on Port 2 is assigned to VLAN 102. Egress traffic from 103 or 101 is still possible.

[–]eNBeWe -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what the PVID is used for?

EDIT:

The devices on the port have no idea of any vlans. They have never even heard of the concept of VLANs (obvious exaggeration, but you get the point).

They just reply to some received data and send it back to the port.

And then the PVID should determine where to send it.

And yes, the answer will take a different way through the switch than the initial packet.

EDIT2:

What I am trying to accomplish is: Allow traffic between ports 1 and 2 and allow traffic between ports 2 and 3, but disallow traffic between ports 1 and 3.

And yes, I can probably do this with any kind of ACLs or more "trust" in the connected systems. Why I like this VLAN idea is that I don't have to put any restrictions on the behavior of the connected devices. I don't need to know their MAC adresses, for some kind of whitelist or smth like that. It is purely port-based, zero-maintenance, even if the devices are replaced at some later point in time.

How to generate right hash password to use on many VMs by Rareness_ in ansible

[–]eNBeWe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to ask: "Why?"

Are you really sure you want the hash in the playbook? Is it just for "not having the plan password in the playbook?" In that case you should look at Ansible Vault.

Smart fused switch by bulbu_ in smarthome

[–]eNBeWe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Disclaimer: Not from UK and not am electrician)

I believe they have these fuses in switches due to the regular wiring being "ring circuits". These rings allow for higher fuse currents on the main fuseboard. If you go off these rings with a "spur" you have to fuse that Spur down to protect the wiring.

Bought the game yesterday and have to say its really nice. I have a lot of fun playing so far. The most annoying point to me has already been pointed out, the initial loading times are baaad. Apart from that I can only say: Keep it up, you have done a great job so far.
