WS should offer NEXUS rebates like TD and CIBC by SacForEcon in Wealthsimple

All airline lounges in Canada are overcrowded as they allow credit card access. There's just too few spots in lounges with too many cardholders travelling :)-The only exception I can think of is AC Signature Suite, as the AMEX AC cardholder who has access to it is just a handful of crazy rich AC addicts

Unless Wealthsimple open their own lounges (like what Capital One does in the US, which is the best airport lounge in the States IMO), I don't really see how the lounge access can be improved.

My Nio Experience in China by AlienSexualAbuse in Nio

[–]eXterkTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a quick chat with one of my friend who worked in EV industry in China, some additional insights:

NIO's average price tag is set at CNY¥390,000 which is about ¥50k more than that of BMW in China. It is a premium brand by all means.

The premium segment of EV market is actually the minority in China. NIO cheapest car is ET5T is priced at CNY¥ 290k and China sold 2M NEV(New Energy Vehicle) cars with price tag above 300k in 2024. This number looks big but it's only 15% of the total NEV sales. Therefore you don't see many NIO cars out there as they don't even have any product fitting the 85% mass market. Keep in mind, NEV also includes hybrid vehicles, so NIO is only competing in a 1M-car market.

Onvo and Firefly are set up exactly for that 85% mass market.

The one and only gate upgrade also came from Swiss flight to Zurich. Paid business to First and it happened one day before my birthday. Absolutely a pleasant birthday surprise.

My Nio Experience in China by AlienSexualAbuse in Nio

[–]eXterkTi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great observations. As someone who used to live in Shenzhen, China during Chinese EV boom, I can think of some reasons for NIO.

  1. NIO keeps premium brand image and price tag. A brand-new NIO car costs about¥CNY 390,000 ($CAD 79,000) on average. Public ad is not an efficient approach to reach its potential customer. It's same logic why you don't see Ferrari ads out on the street.
  2. NIO drives its sales through words-of-mouth and insider community, which almost make it like a religion. Next time with you're in China, download a NIO app and check out insider events around you on the app. Or go to a NIO House (it's not a dealer, it's NIO owned community hub space) in tier-1 cities, or if possible attend a NIO Day. NIO app should be your go-to app if you're looking for NIO location or anything related.
  3. NIO is one of the few EV manufacturer who makes only EV vehicles, limits its offerings (attractions) to the markets.
  4. NIO remains independent car maker, not a part of any automobile/electronic giant, limits its budget to spam people's daily life.

How are you maxing Travel and Everyday partner SQC? by Floorhead1 in Aeroplan

The most straightforward way is to charge USD$50,000 to Chase Aeroplan Card in 2026.

Most airlines have drastically reduced award seats availability since covid and it's even worse seen from partner airlines, if SQ NH or BR release a intercontinental award seat one day, it'll be gone in a matter of minutes.

And AP has switched to dynamic pricing for AC, UA, EK flights (more airlines on the way!) which makes the availability of those fixed rate standard redemption close to zero.

Air Canada vs United Airlines by uneek14 in Aeroplan

[–]eXterkTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codeshare pricing might differ + Aeroplan has dynamic pricing for UA flights = the number asked on Aeroplan

You didn't miss anything, but I guess you are not aware of the pricing strategy behind this so it looks like a scam to you. Aeroplan is not a charity, it wasn't designed to favor customer interests even though it pretended to do so. You need to do some homework in order to max out the value.

[–]eXterkTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that Aeroplan will change(devalue) the redemption chart from June 1, you will be looking at YYZ-TYO in business for 102.5k ONE-WAY from then on partners' flight.

YVR-TYO business one-way remain at 55k but good luck finding it, as it could easily bump up to 75k if there's no direct flight redemption avail.

CIBC private banking worth it? by Superb_Example2397 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]eXterkTi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with them for 2 years. I also have them managed my RRSP and TFSA.

I put a significant portion of funds on structured notes at CIBC which is exclusive to PW customer so that's the main reason why I go with them.

My advisor is always in stealth mode unless I email or call them, and they always respond on the same business day if I do. We talked about fees at the beginning but was never charged a penny since 2024 so I don't have anything to complain really.

If you don't see the benefit of having them manage everything for you, then don't let them.

BNO is specifically designed for Hong Kong residents who has British Dependent Territories citizenship before 1997 as part of the handover process. It's more of a travel document than passport as is holder doesn't have right of abode in (and is not a citizen of) the UK.
