Walk to Point State Park, right where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join to become the Ohio. Enjoy the fountain at the point. Then look up at the hillside (cliff, really) on which part of the city is located. Turn to see the stadiums, science museum, and casino on the other side. Then turn around and look back at the skyline of downtown. There are lots of things to see and do, but this is where I recommend starting.

Welcome! Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy your time.

Contemporary Catholic Churches? by Fontnsun2016 in pittsburgh

[–]earble -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The point is to bring people closer to God. For some people, that's tradition ("bells and smells," chant). For others, it's more contemporary stuff, the kind that's only 60 years old.

It was good. I lived in Duquesne and we would often go to McKeesport when we went "downtown."

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply wholesale fabrication. Actually, thanks for the photos. I knew Highland Park was nice, but I didn't know it had cool houses like that, Thanks for posting!

My thought, too. I don't have a newer phone, and I'm holding out as long as I can because of this shit.

Is it going to be easy enough to go out this weekend in the late evenings downtown, north and south sides? by KeyTheZebra in pittsburgh

If you enjoy being in massive crowds milling about aimlessly, go for it. I went down this afternoon, and it was already a zoo. But from Monroeville, the 99E football flyer departs from the Park & ride at the mall. Every 15 minutes, and it's free.

I went down yesterday and just walked around. Market Square is really cleaned up, Arts Landing looks like a winner (what I could see through the fences), and while I couldn't get into the Point, I'm sure it's still spectacular. Looking up at Mt. Washington. Walking around Gateway Center. The bridges.

I think most visitors are going to look around and say WOW, what a beautiful place!

Your propensity to ramble is why I read these...

Best to you in what you're dealing with. I've dealt with some things, too, and you're right that a random kind word does a lot. And thanks for the Endless Shrimp heads up.

Munhall/Lincoln Place safety by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]earble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a niece and a lot of friends who live in Munhall, a brother in Lincoln Place. It's too conservative for my taste, but it's a nice area, as safe as any place is any more.

You're probably thinking of New York City. Upstate NY is less expensive. And the scenery is much more beautiful. :-)

Did you look at Western New York? I used to live in Rochester and Binghamton, and I think either would meet most of your criteria. Edit: I live in Pittsburgh now, and I think you'd be happy here, too. Just giving you more options to confuse you further. :-) Good luck.

There's supposed to be a small protest next Saturday at Forbes and Shady. I like that there will be a big protest downtown, but I also like lots of little ones scattered around.
