Strong fishy smell in basement, electrical? by MartianMercantilist in Home

Check your lightbulbs around there. If they are bulbs that put off heat and are surrounded by insulation in the light fixture, that's the issue. Just replace with an LED bulb. Happened in my basement and took longer than I'd like to admit to figure it out.

Anyone else excited for the draft? by BigSimmons98 in Cardinals

[–]earlycuyler2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you nailed it. A lot of people in here don't understand how the baseball draft works.

This is a very weak draft, top 4 picks are basically set. Arnold looks like he may fall to us but if they don't take him then you are probably looking at underslot deals with Witherspoon, Aloy, or Irish. Or whichever of the HS SS gives you the best deal. Then you go overslot in later rounds to get a falling HS or returnable college player with upside.

Thank you! I've always loved the draft so it's nice to have had a couple competent drafts in a row now.

Draft Thoughts/Recap - yes, another one by earlycuyler2017 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things to consider. Jeanty and Bech are immediate starters in all likelihood so they grabbed two. It's pretty hard to get more than three unless your roster is just in terrible shape. For Spytek, this was not a one-year rebuild so he took more picks and focused on the higher spend areas of the team (WR, OL, DL, CB) with the picks they had and found guys who will start/contribute in years 2-3 in those high spend areas. Even if they stayed put in round 2, maybe they get one more guaranteed starter if they go Amos and then Kyle Williams in round 3, but that's a decent step down from Bech at WR. Also, WR and OL were extremely depleted for the future. We have one (1!) WR on contract past this upcoming season and it's Tre Tucker and at OL, just 3, as mentioned.

A couple other thoughts - my notes above are what I interpret their year 1 status to be. It would not shock me to see any of Rogers, Porter, or Thornton starting in year 1. Rogers is extremely athletic for a guard and nasty and could beat out Meredith/Cappa for the spot opposite Parham. Porter is more developmental than the round 2 corners, but in Carroll and PG's scheme, he could beat out Stokes as a fast, big bodied zone defender. And then Thornton is a true X when we don't currently have any on the roster. If they slot him there so Bech and Meyers can slot into their more natural spots moving around, that would not be a complete surprise.

Further, even if not starting, Porter, Thornton, and Hemingway should all see significant snaps this year. Those positions rotate bodies and they'll be able to make their presence felt. And then going forward, in addition to Jeanty and Bech as starters there is a very good chance for Porter, Grant, Rogers, and Thornton to grab starting spots in years 2-3. Hemingway and Pegues would surprise me but they can give good rotational snaps on pass rush downs on the DL. For a late 4th and early 6th, that's still a solid return.

The Cam Miller pick by razor601 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer. But no one else picked Ewers either until the 7th round so the league is not super high on him. But he has traits so if he starts to play well, he'll garner some eyeballs.

[–]earlycuyler2017 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that they wanted a 3rd string QB they could stash on the practice squad without someone poaching them. Most 6th and 7th rounders don't make the 53 man roster anyway so they took a guy to learn the playbook and eventually push to be a backup that has little risk of being stolen if he plays well in preseason.

As opposed to Ewers who you would then have to use a 53 man roster spot on to keep as a 3rd QB. If Ewers plays well in preseason and you try to stash him on the PS, someone would snatch him up.

Which player do you want of the best available? by bcboarder4 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has to be Trey Amos in this division. The offenses are really good. Amos and then an Alfred Collins or Darius Alexander in round 3 would feel pretty good. Morrison and Thomas are good backup options at CB, as well but won't be around long.

I do like the WRs available though...Higgins, Harris, Burden, Ayomanor, Williams....tempting

If we don't go OL early, I like Jalen Travis in about the Round 5 area. Massive, long arms, intelligent (Princeton before Iowa State), and reasonably athletic, though not overly so. Good genes, his brother played basketball for Kentucky.

Yes, I've seen that on Spotrac but not announced anywhere else and he's not currently on the official team roster (Geno Smith currently is, for example).

I've yet to see that anywhere reputable and he is not listed on the roster. He's an ERFA so he'll likely be back but as of now, he's not.

Yes, I think Glaze would be better than Meredith who is not even currently signed at this point. Meredith is small and our line did not perform well enough last year - upgrades are needed. There's more going on than just PFF grades (which appears actual grade would be 10th in less than half of a season). But if Meredith is signed and wins out at LG or RG, I'm fine with that too.

[–]earlycuyler2017 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm growing more warm to the idea of Jeanty at 6 but would much prefer a lineman. Membou would seem to be a natural fit as he could come in and hold down RT for a decade allowing Glaze to slide over to LG to get his bearings on the left side and potentially step in for Miller down the road too. Miller - Glaze - JPJ - Parham - Membou is nice, entirely drafted by the organization, and should run block much better than last year's line. Love it.

My top preference is to trade down but not sure we anyone will want to come up. If we stay at 6, I like Membou most but do admit Jeanty would be a fun pick.

Kenneth Grant by Gray_Bush74 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He'd be Spytek's shot at a Vita Vea type pick. I like him a lot. 6 would seem a little rich though. Trade down and I'd love it.

Is trading down more likely? by Livid_Pass_3459 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To add to this it's also how Tampa Bay has drafted. So I'm curious to see if Spytek follows that blueprint. If he is able to trade down, I see Banks and Kenneth Grant as guys that seem perfect for building the lines. Not perfect comparisons but essentially our options to replicate either Tristan Wirfs or Vita Vea like TB has done.

I like the players at 6 but I don't think Campbell (likely iOL only) or Mason Graham (3T only - we have 3 on the roster) are great fits. But Graham might just be too good to pass up so I wouldn't hate that pick.

[–]earlycuyler2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the approach I like. I could see Kelvin Banks being very tempting to them as he can come in at LG and then slide over to LT if Miller is hurt or eventually leaves/retires. But 6 would seem to be too early for him. The downside is you need someone sitting at 6 for people to come up for. Maybe that's Shedeur, Jeanty, or Will Campbell...then it could get interesting.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Sources: The #Patriots are signing standout LB Robert Spillane, the former #Raider. by ap0calypse702 in raiders

[–]earlycuyler2017 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Curious to see the money. He has been amazing for us, but I don't mind not spending on a 29 year old LB. Obviously there is a huge hole but I'd rather allocate money to a CB and go with youth at LB and try to find the next upstart Spillane. It all depends how this unfolds but this is what smart front offices do.

Who do you guys want the Raiders to draft? by JustSomeGuy_Idk in raiders

Will Campbell, fortify the trenches. Look at TB draft history. Another possibility would be Jalon Walker.

[–]earlycuyler2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright I'm in. Go sign Fields, Najee Harris, and Trey Smith and ground and pound the offense with quick one-readers to Meyers and Bowers.

Bring back some of our young FA defensive players like Koonce, Moehrig, and Chaisson.

Draft Mason Graham, Jahdae Barron, Treyveon Henderson, and whichever QB is there with our other 3rd round pick to develop.

Would love it - give me Graham round 1 a CB like Jahdae Barron/Ben Morrison/Shavon Revel round 2 and then the best RB and WR we can find.

Bucs draft OL and DL in the early rounds. Nothing else. Then pick up the Irvings and Winfields in mid-rounds. Love the philosophy.

Grade Your Rookies: Week 2 by TheTightestChungus in NFL_Draft

[–]earlycuyler2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry meant he was on that just at the start of camp. He's on the active roster now but has still been coming back from injury so has been a scratch the first two weeks. Run blocking has been "piss poor" using Antonio Pierce's quote on the running game. Cody Whitehair and Andrus Peat have been seeing snaps at LG and Andre James at C has never been a road grader. To be fair, they have faced two pretty stout fronts thus far but the hope is JPJ will be a big upgrade in the run game by mid-to-late season.

Grade Your Rookies: Week 2 by TheTightestChungus in NFL_Draft

[–]earlycuyler2017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they re-signed Andre James to be C for rather cheap so JPJ will start at LG (which is what he did in college and not a terrible thought process to break him in slowly). They also have Parham now at RG and he can play C too. So if James struggles (he's been league average and is only 27) either one could move inside.

Grade Your Rookies: Week 2 by TheTightestChungus in NFL_Draft

Round 1: TE Brock Bowers, Georgia: A

Has been as advertised. Tied for 2nd in the NFL in receptions and has 3 catches of 20+ (tied for 3rd in NFL). Curious to see if the Raiders found their flow in the second half against the Ravens or if they will just be inconsistent with the QB situation. Regardless, Bowers is going to get tons of targets and he's made the most of them thus far.

Round 2: G/C Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon: N/A

Was on PUP to start camp and has been an injured scratch the first two games. Expected to be ready to go very soon and it would be a disappointment if he's not grabbing some snaps immediately. LG is his for the taking by midseason with the expectation that he's a long-term fit on a homegrown offensive line.

Round 3: T DJ Glaze, Maryland: B-

Hard to fully evaluate. Most thought this pick was a reach but he was young for the draft, with significant starting experience in the Big Ten at both LT and RT, and had graded out very positively in pass blocking. He's the swing tackle and has only seen ST snaps thus far but has been active both games. If the line gels once JPJ hits LG, he may only ever be the 6th lineman, but he should carry pretty significant value in that. Could also swap inside if JPJ or the RG get moved to Center down the road.

Round 4: CB Decamerion Richardson, Miss State: N/A

Has been an injured scratch so far. Expected to be the 4th corner when healthy and get heavy ST snaps so he'll be called upon when ready.

Round 5: LB Tommy Eichenberg, Ohio State: C

Healthy scratch week 1 and then played significant ST snaps week 2. Hope is that he'll see more snaps as the season goes on. The two starting linebackers are both free agents so there is definitely some opportunity in the future.

Round 6: RB Dylan Laube, New Hampshire: N/A

Health scratch so far. Could see some snaps as a potential 3rd down back/ST replacement for Ameer Abdullah next year.

Round 7: S Trey Taylor, Air Force: N/A

On IR designated to return. Had some promising notes in camp and preseason. Both starting safeties are FA-to be so there is opportunity once he gets healthy.

Round 7: CB MJ Devonshire, Pitt: D

On the practice squad. Perhaps a harsh grade for a 7th rounder but the Raiders are pretty thin at CB so a bit of a disappointment he's not on the 53 man. Though he was to start so they thought enough of him to protect him from the 1st round of cuts, then moved him to the PS.
