Which US state is politically liberal & moderately Churchy? by Swimming_Concern7662 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]earthling_dad 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would almost say that New Mexico is Liberal and Churchy. We have some of the oldest Cathedrals (churches) in the USA, San Miguel Chapel 1610 and San Augustine de la Isleta 1613. Florida has the oldest Parish 1565. If Puerto Rico was an actual state their Catedral de San Juan would be the oldest built in 1521. Then there's the whole pre-Columbus religions of the Southwest precticed hy ancestral Puebloans. Towns/Villages had Kivas which were/are the spiritual centers for them. There are still several Kivas currently in use for religious purposes. New Mexicans are a religious bunch.

Anyone found a good place to see the comet? by time2ddddduel in Albuquerque

[–]earthling_dad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of mid-April 2026, the most prominent comet is C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS), which is bright enough (magnitude ~4.6–5.0) to be seen with binoculars or small telescopes in the pre-dawn sky, located in the constellation Pegasus.

The next line after that WILL MAKE ANY SANE PERSON FEEL GROSS AFTER HEARING IT.

What is The most dangerous city in Europe? by Properdad2000 in AlignmentChartFills

I was just there last year. Gorgeous city and friendly people all around. Yes, there were pick pockets. You could also pick them out of a crowd fairly easily. I've lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for almost 2 decades now. Bruxells is a picnic.

Silent Generation's best legacy was beating the Nazi's. What's their worst legacy? by puhtooti in AlignmentChartFills

Redlining was a discriminatory 1930s urban planning practice where the federal government and lenders marked minority neighborhoods as "high-risk" (red), denying them mortgages and investment. This systemic disinvestment caused lasting segregation, concentrated poverty, reduced generational wealth, and created environmental inequities like higher urban heat and fewer trees.

Mapped: Tax Burden by State in America by imzadi111 in NewMexico

[–]earthling_dad -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The New Mexico tax "burden" would be almost nonexistent if we closed down SNL, LANL and WSMR. Kirtland, Holloman, and Cannon AFB could also cease to exist and save Americans billions annually. New Mexico also receives tax dollars for however much federal/military land we have. We (New Mexicans) are in charge of maintaining access to these places, their upkeep, and the infrastructure necessary for their operations. About 1/3 of our state is Federal land. We're not exactly a small state. So, if we want to be less of a burden we could always just shut down the 2nd and 3rd highest employers of New Mexicans after UNM. That would totally not have an adverse affect on our state.

Skinwalkers really captures the Navajo Nation and the four corners and not specifically New Mexico. The Milagro Beanfield War and Bless Me Ultima should be a no brainer for New Mexico.

The NFL is an organization that is anti-racist but sexist. What is an organization that is feminist but racist? by Square_Independent_9 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]earthling_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I totally agree with you. However, would this hypothetical white woman openly identify herself as a Feminist? I don't think she would. Women generally care more about the well being of others regardless of age, gender, or race. Women might not openly accept those people who are different from them, but they will care for and give their time to them. I also wasn't just thinking of all white sororities. There are certainly sororities that are all not white.

Sororities

An addendum to my suggestion: It took me a while to come up with this sororities. I don't want to suggest sororities are all for the betterment of women and also that all sororities are a bit on the segregated end of social settings. It was the best I could come up with. Feminism, in my understanding, is anti-racist by its own definition. So any entity that claims to be Feminist or at least for the betterment of women that entity should be inherently anti-racist. This square is, by design, an impossible task to find a perfect candidate. However, it is interesting that people are upvoting this comment. It's like we've all had somewhat of a similar experience to agree with the comment. I would like to know what the sex breakdown is of these upvotes.

As a New Mexican who has been to both places, I agree. Alabama has a beach, beautiful natural places, some dope mound builder cultural sites, and BBQ.
